But, looking it up on Youtube (or anything for that matter, not just G3), just to hate on it is pointless and a waste of time. I've got some VHS of G3, and while not as in depth as G4, I was still entertained by it. The animation was good, I liked the music score, the voice acting was decent. It entertained that fun loving, kiddish, imagination driven, fantasy portion of my brain that occasionally thinks anything is still possible. So yeah it served it's purpose well. I like G3. Bought the Christmas special at target and won the pinkie pie episode at a MLP CCG tournament (4th place concelation prize, go figure). G3.5 was just a rushed mess. No defending it here. I still think it's better than G2 AKA my little pony tales. That show is the antithesis of the other 3 and a half generations. It's got no magic, no fantasy settings, negative morals, bad voice acting and animation. It's a middle school drama, set in our world, exactly like our world, but with the humans swapped out for ponies, but still acting like humans. I didn't hate it or go out of my way to comment on it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. The quality of everything was just so absolutely terrible that it was just eh, let's kindof make this but we don't really care. It just exists, it's there. Sunny Fox 5,951 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 I've watched some of G3. (Not G3.5, learn to distinguish, people) I got hold of the Runaway Rainbow DVD. While it certainly didn't have a story line with any depth, it wasn't entirely awful. If anything, it entertained me to see the differences between the G3 characters and their counterparts in Friendship is Magic. For example, G3 Rainbow Dash has the same colours as the G4 version, but was much more like Rarity (well, if you made her entirely one-dimensional, I mean) because she was into fashion and calling other ponies "darling" while G3 Rarity is a spoiled unicorn princess. There's even a Spike in this version! They also had Breezies, although they look a lot different to G4 ones. So I don't regret watching G3, but it certainly is like chalk and cheeze in terms of quality. Happy minion of The Fabulous One! mars 4,862 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 As a little girl growing up in the 2000s, I used to watch Generation 3. I didn't really care for it- besides for the movie the Princess Promenade. I liked shows like Courage the Cowardly Dog or Spongebob Squarepants better. Now, when I tried to rewatch it, I realized how spoiled the little girls who watch Generation 4 are. I had nostagla glasses on, but the voice acting was cringeworthy and the story was boring. Even the artstyle wasn't as good as I had remembered. PianoOfMuffins 38 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 "A Very Minty Christmas" I actually like to a degree in particular. Not amazing by any means, but I find it to have a surprisingly half decent story (too rushed though unfortunately) and some genuinely good humoured moments. Yes it has some girly and mushy moments, but in my view the least of all G3 movies and episodes. Note this was also the very first truly full-fledged G3 tale (after a small spat of mediocre "episodes" which were packaged with the toys), and I would say even shows quite a bit more effort in the story and dialogue than perhaps anything thereafter. Although the second movie "Princess Promenade" I would also say is noteworthy for having half decent material throughout, just not all that consistently among the muddled events that make up the overall product. From "Runaway Rainbow", the third movie, I started to see a dip in what quality there at least was, even if only a modest amount, and then the generation's material just continued to spiral downward to quite the car crash of an ending. When it comes to characters, Minty I found to be particularly likeable, and is actually perhaps the most believable of all G3 characters, because she actually had personality. She's delightfully silly, offbeat, and a bit dorky - whereas all the other ponies were indeed extremely one dimensional for the larger part, with only exceptions here and there, such as the character of Wysteria showing emotions of distress and sadness over the whole prospect of becoming a princess in "Princess Promenade". Otherwise, extremely cardboard characterisation for a large majority of the time, albeit with breakthrough's time to time. Is G3 plain awful? I would actually say no. Can it be awful? Yes, but not always. Would I recommend watching any material? Well, you may get at least some sort of enjoyment from the first two movies in particular, "A Very Minty Christmas" and "The Princess Promenade", if you're willing to give them a chance. As for the other material on offer, if you don't get even a smidge of enjoyment from the aforementioned movies, then perhaps G3's just not for you to any degree after all. Kulstor 254 March 11, 2014 Share March 11, 2014 (edited) I think a part of the main reason is when folks hear G3, they are thinking G3.5, which is different then G3. G3.5 is awful. Watching G3 I'd say it is an ok series of specials. Nothing special, but ok. Most just think and give them opinion of g3.5 labeling it as G3. And some videos and opinions don't mention it is 3.5 and not that there was a G3 before that. Some folks likely don't know there was a G3 and that G3.5 is different. If i were to label the generations by my preference I'd say G4, G1 in 2nd place, with my little pony tales and G3 in 3rd place. It settled down with A Very Minty Christmas though, and honestly The World's Largest Teaparty was *considerably* better than the G4 live-action attempt. However, when the toy line got stripped down to the Core 7, the tone of the animations changed quite a bit while the art style remained the same, aiming for a younger audience. And then G3.5 occurred, and things went haywire with new artstyles, new animation methods, new everything, and a definite aim at toddlers. It was strange.
