I just know when the mane 6 asked Maud Pie if she has a pet that it would be a rock.

Huh, I don't really know what to think of this episode...  I mean, I liked it... I think.  It wasn't really a fun episode, but I guess it had a good message?  Personally, I don't really get the conclusion (so, you're friends because you all care about Pinkie Pie, and... that's it?) and I'm not a huge fan of the emotionless brooding character.  However, getting to meet some of Pinkie's family was interesting, and I always enjoy when all of the Mane 6 get a part to play (and they each seemed to be very much in character).  Overall, it was a fine episode.  Not my favorite of the season, but still fine.

I don't know if anyone has noticed this yet, but during the scene when Pinkie's mane deflated and she became heartbroken (14:39 to 14:42), did anyone think of the Ralph Wiggum scene in the Simpsons episode I Love Lisa (link) where Bart slowed down the video footage to pin point the exact moment the heart ripped in half?

"Watch this Lis, you can actually pinpoint the second when Pinkie Pie's heart rips in half. And.....now."

I just noticed this when I watched the episode again last night and just out of interest I slowed down the footage in Adobe Premiere Pro and synced the audio with the Simpsons segment.

Meh. I wouldn't say I hated this episode, but I definitely didn't like it, either. I'm not really one for that much dry character, so Maude was over the top boring to me. And the whole 'friends because we all love Pinkie' didn't really pan out. In the end, the Mane Six and Maude still didn't really have any affection for one another. Just because I would save someone I love from certain death doesn't mean I'm friends with everyone else who feels the same way about that person. I have a lot of 'friends of friends' that I would no sooner associate with than subject myself to physical illness and torture, I don't automatically love them because we share similar friends/relatives/acquaintances. Pinkie's obliviousness to the whole thing was a little sad, too.

Someone else spotted this and uploaded it at another site. I'll just post it here. You only see it for a split second, but her cutie mark is...A ROCK!

Ah, yes, thank you for that! It's as we all knew it would be of course but still, it is excellent to see that her cutie mark actually was visible only for a moment. :D

I don't know maybe shes just a Geologists or maybe a Petrology

She's definitely a Petrologist, which is the branch of Geology that studies rocks. ;)

Man it'd be tough to be Maud's husband for obvious reasons with her lack of expression

"Honey, what's wrong?"

"...nothing..."

"Why are you holding that sharpened rock menacingly?"

"...What are you talking about... I always am hold rocks..."

Cue reenactment of the School Days ending.

I really like it! It was a good episode, Maud was very funny (especially the poetry!) She wasn't as bland as I first thought, she had some good moments, my only problem was that the resolution wasn't as fulfilling some of the other episodes. Just a side note, I thought the outfit that Maud was wearing when she saved Pinkie was pretty creative.

Well, you have your opinion. I didn't think she was that boring.

What, no Big Lebowski reference? For shame... (Seriously, her idea of a good time is searching through a bunch of rocks for one particular rock. She was that boring. XD)

Anyway...Eh, the episode was good, nothing great. Maud was about as dull as a rock but that was the point. The only time she wasn't was when she randomly donned a helmet to save Pinkie Pie. The rest of the time...Well, I guess if you're really into rocks, you could say she wasn't a bore but I don't know anybody who has much of a rock fetish. At least it was played for comedy. Though, I expected her pet rock to have googly eyes, at least.

Now when do we meet Fluttershy's uncle voiced by R. Lee Ermey and played like his role in Full Metal Jacket? Because seriously...C'mon. GET ON THAT!

Oh darn, I missed out on the reference! xD I guess you're right, unless someone was actually into learning about rocks and love rock comedy then it could be funny at least. :P Good episode anyway.

She really didn't teach much about rocks but then, I guess the target demographic wouldn't know about igneous and all that. I bet Maud is a huge fan of the Flintstones though.

Seriously though. R. Lee Ermey. Fluttershy's uncle, father, something. Any kind of relation at all. Must happen. Because Iron Will failed us all:

It should happen I totally agree. That is true, to be fair I never understood rock puns at all.

Nah, everyone understands them. They're just not funny. XD

Also, inb4 Starswirl is eventually inevitably discovered to be Twilight Sparkle's great-great-great-whatever.

Let's give the writers that idea. :P I guess rock puns shall remain as unfunny jokes. xD

Awwe we never got to see her cutie mark (as far as I could tell from one viewing).

I loved this episode!!! :)

Maud was awesome!!! :D

Now at least we know what pushed Pinkie Pie to the edge of insanity before the sonic rainboom finally pushed her over it.

I loved this episode. It was the first slice-of-life story in a while that had the spirit of a slice-of-life story. Nothing too exciting. Just characters living their day to day lives. And for once, Twilight wasn't the be-it-all-know-it-all to every friendship problem. I sometimes forget that she's supposed to be the anti-social one.

Wow! This episode has been out for one day and it has already flooded the entire internet. I haven't seen it yet but it sounds pretty epic. From what I gather she is pretty much Raven from Teen Titans. Sounds like an interesting element, I like when the show does story lines like this. Just sort of trying to mesh in with a new character. Pinkie used to annoy me but she has really grown on me since EQG. S4 seems to be placing a lot of focus on her and that's fine with me. I was disappointed at first with S4 but it just keeps getting better.... and better....and BETTER!

Solid episode. apparently a lot of folks like it much better than I did.

also I must respectfully disagree with Casbyness about Maud pushing pinky pie over the edge. She was probably kept pinky grounded. and perhaps in her own way showed pinkie pie what  little joy there was to be had on a rock farm.

We learned more about Pinkie Pie's family. Backstories are always good.

The episode rocked.

Sig made by Kyoshi.

Cool things people have said about me:

Never heard of him but I guess just you mentioning him is a good reason not to go anywhere near that name.

(In reference to an author I suggested.)

On the other hoof, the show has developed her to be a non-anti-social pony.  In fact, she might have been quite nonplussed by Maud's introduction but did her best to cover it up.
