Dumbest fears as a kid

~Sugar Sprinkles~

Recommended Posts

As a child, what were the most dumbest fears you had?

I would say I used to be scared of the bathtub drain, because I thought it would suck me in or something. Same as the sweeper. I was never scared of how loud the sweeper was (Like most kids) but, I was afraid it would suck me in forever.

And what really bugs me is when my parents have to bring up that stuff to people xD I don't get that butthurt about it, but still.

My dumbest fear was probably going into the basement alone. I refused to go down there if nobody would go with me. For some reason I though there were monsters or something down there.

i had the drain fear... it was made worse by ghost busters and then confirmed in rugrats lmao.

and sharks in the lake because my brother told me that I would get eaten if i went in the lake....

Edit: Oh and a fear that's lasted since childhood... I am afraid of going over bridges... I don't know how it started or why, but going over bridges always made me either hyperventilate or hide. I still do and i'm 30 years old... so yeahhhhh.... and no I am not afraid of hights though I don't try to defy them either lol.

I went through a phase when I was afraid of bushes (don't laugh!), because of a vivid nightmare I had. But that only lasted around a few weeks.

I don't remember having any strange long term fears as a kid...

I was afraid of heights.

I am no longer afraid of heights.

Unless it's a diving board.

I was afraid of toilets in public bathrooms... loud flushings... scared the crap out of me. :o

That reminds me. I was also afraid of automatic flushing. I dunno, it was just loud and not out of my control to flush! Like, right after you get it, all of a sudden, a loud, atomic bomb explosion sounding flushing would go off and freak me out!!

There's a zoo nearby, and in that zoo there's a train ride where you go through a tunnel. For the longest time, I refused to go on the train because I thought there were crabs in the tunnel, and I was scared as heck. I don't know how I don't know how I came to that conclusion, nor do I know why I was scared. Ah, childhood.

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?

White people. Like for real. Growing up around all mexicans, white people with all their niceness and money just seemed creepy.

niceness and money, you must have lived near a rich neighborhood lol.... those people scared me too though as I grew up in low to middling income with people of all walks... but most of them pretty mean >.>;

I used to absolutely hate the Garbage Truck in the morning. The loudness of it frightened the shit out of me.

I also was scared of monsters in the dark. (I still am actually)

When I was a kid:

My dads golf clubs. Don't ask me why. I was just totally scared of them. Then, I decided to face my fears and I was like,"Why was I afraid of them?"

We had our laundry machines down stairs and next to the machines there was an open sump pump laundry drain. I was totally afraid of that. I thought I would drown ( if I fell in). Mom finally told me that it was only few inches deep. I was no longer afraid.

One of the dumbest things I was ever afraid of as a kid was this decoration on the staircase at my auntie's house that was a giant doll with its face to the wall. I was afraid of it because I thought it was haunted. Really. Just a giant doll.

I was terrified of automatic car windows because I thought they would chop me up into thin slices if I put my hand through one. On a related note, I also hated going fast in a car with the window open because I thought I would blow out.

I also thought a pink monster would come out of the trash can in our bathroom, so I would stay as far away from it as possible. I think I got the idea from a short cartoon on Nickelodeon that I vaguely remember.

Other things I was scared of included:

  • Aliens
  • A section of a local museum about the extinction of the dinosaurs
  • Being executed
  • The dark
  • Giant test tubes

I was not a brave child.

I used to sleep tucked up like a ball because I was scared of something grabbing my legs from under the covers.

I also was scared of the car headlights that showed up on my bedroom wall at night. I don't know why I was scared of them, but they made me really uncomfortable. I hid my fear from my parents by claiming they kept me up at night and got three layers of blinds to keep the lights out. I still have those blinds down every night.

Going up the stairs in another house, being afraid of the bus because someone told me I would get my organs cut out, no face from Spirited Away and all kind of other things.

I was afraid of sea anenomes and those rubber balls that had little rubber tendrils because they reminded me of sea anenomes.
