Am I the only one who didn't cry at My Little Dashie?

I didn't bail my eyes out, I just felt for the story. I understood what the main character was going through. Like im pretty sure all of us would cry if we practically raised a "Filly Rainbow Dash!"  and then she I guess. Got taken away. Even though the video editing was not the best.

I read My Little Dashie because I was hearing so much about it, but it was a disappointment. I felt like it had potential at some points, but overall it was not executed in a way that had the intended effect. The worst part was the false endings. That story could have been wrapped up a few times without losing anything, and if it ended at the first one, I wouldn't have minded it as much.

I respect that the author tried to write something and released it despite the inevitability of criticism (I know I can't write well, and both of my fanfics were promptly deleted), but the story was, at least in my opinion, not good.

You're not alone bro! I didnt cry either! I thought it was sad, but not to the point of crying. I also just wanted to point out at the beggining of the video the narrator says "She more than just lost. Shes missplaced!" Lost means missplaced dum dum. ;)

I didn’t cry either: I thought the whole story was terrible, and the “emotional” moments were really forced which just made me complain as opposed to cry.

Yeah pretty much this.

The premise was "meh" to begin with, but the worst part is it just wasn't done well. The writing was so, so, so awful, I couldn't get into it. I couldn't feel *anything* about it, because all I could concentrate on was the poorness of the execution.

I listened to a dramatic reading of it. There were a couple of moments that tugged on my heartstrings, but those moments were quickly extinguished by the narrator's hilariously awful impressions of the ponies' voices. Honestly, the ratio of 'wanna cry' to 'wanna laugh' was heavily skewed in favor of the latter.

i remember a time when MLD was praised for being the best fanfic ever and people left and right talking about how much it made them cry.

I also remember sitting there in disgust at finding out it was self-insert garbage and wondering what the hell was wrong with the fandom.

Didn't read the story, only watched the movie.  I cried, which is unusual, because I'm not big on the tears dept.  I get misty eyed fairly often, but not actual crying.  I was surprised at how much MLD got me.  Honestly, I thought it was one of the most moving and beautiful things I've ever seen.  It's one of my favorite pieces of cinema.

*EDIT* After reading through more of this thread, it seems that there's a lot of varying opinions on this fic.  It is supposedly widely loved, yet a lot of people seem to find it terrible and cringeworthy.  I guess it's the type of thing where it's either going to hit you just right and you love it, or you'll think it's cringeworthy crap.  Some things, like Lord of the Rings, for example, are less, shall we say, controversial in this way.  Even if LOTR is not your kind of thing, I really doubt anyone would say, "Oh, that was cringeworthy crap.  Complete garbage."  (Inb4 someone says that just to spite me.)  But MLD has the potential to have a much wider range of opinions.  I think it comes down to how much you can relate to it or not.  I related so strongly to the main character, so I guess that's why I loved it so much.

My Little Dashie did have something going for it..but it felt like it was trying too hard to pull emotions out of you. Rainbow Dash felt out of character...all the ponies showing up at his door to get Rainbow Dash was contrived...and so was the narrator having to forget about Rainbow Dash.

The whole story was contrived actually. xD A good fan fiction is hard to find.

EDIT: It is also feels really manipulative with it's "emotional message" too.

I cried in agony and sometimes from laughter. So many scenes were just awkward and you could tell they were trying too hard. I don't doubt the creator's sincerity but passion alone doesn't always result on good writing or execution on-screen. Honestly I found it completely absurd and poorly done.

The truth is always rough.

I didn't cry, but the feels were still there.

Water, 35 liters. Carbon, 20 kilograms. Ammonia, 4 liters. Lime, 1.5 kilograms. Phosphorous, 800 grams. Salt, 250 grams. Saltpeter, 100 grams. Sulfur, 80 grams. Fluorine, seven-point-five. Iron, five. Silicon, three grams. And trace amounts of 15 other elements. It's all the ingredients of the average adult human body, right down to the last specks of protein in your eyelashes. And even though science has given us the entire physical breakdown, there's never been a successful attempt at bringing a human to life. There's still something missing. Something scientists haven't been able to find in centuries of research. ...and in case you're wondering, all those ingredients can be bought on a child's allowance. Humans can be made rather cheap. - Edward Elric
