gaming Best Game In Your Favorite Gaming Series

There is a similar topic about worst games in your favorite gaming series and I haven't found one for best so I thought why not make one for best.

Mario: Super Mario Brothers 3, it took all the great things about Super Mario Bros and improved upon the formula that formed the standard for the series.

Zelda: Tie between Ocarina of Time, A Link To The Past and Skyward Sword. A Link To The Past is everything Zelda I is only better, Ocarina of Time was a very successful transition for the series into 3D by honoring what makes the series great while keeping everything fresh and exciting. I normally don't like motion control very much but they work quite well in Skyward Sword and along with great graphics and an engaging story make for one of the best games of the previous console generation and worthy addition to a great series.

Sonic: Sonic and Knuckles, it continued the awesome gameplay of the first few games and introduced my favorite character of the series.

Mortal Kombat 9. Better reboot of the entire series, and way more easier in difficulty (Mortal Kombat's difficulty can be unfair, even on very easy). MK9 is also basically a remake of MK1, MK2 and MK3, being better and easy. And don't forget the fatalities are more brutal and gruesome.

It is an awesome game no doubt about it but Shao Kahn cheats his ass off in that game by spamming the hell out of his best move. Most of the games difficultly is manageable but I felt like I had my balls in a bear trap in that fight.

Have you seen him in MK2? A lot worse. But yeah he can be a douche, just spam shit and kite him and he'll go down in no time.

P.S. watch out for the freaking hammer.

As in the last topic, Wild Arms is my choice.

The best being a tie between WA2 and WA3. WA3 was infinitely better gameplay-wise, having taken everything WA2 did but making it better, but the stories for both are pretty amazing so it's really up in the air for which is better.

All I can say is anyone who loves RPGs the likes of Legend of Dragoon, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest...you will get a kick out of the Wild Arms series. It's amazing.

dat Wishbone, tho.

Goriest fatality I've ever laid my Mortal-Kombat-desenstited eyes on.

Mass Effect: Mass effect 2. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the first, and third game too. But the second game was perfection. You were going around space trying to recruit all of these people to help you in the war against the reapers. This game did have one major flaw though. A lack of Liara. She was always the one I chose as my lover, so it sucked that she was barely in the game at all.

Pokemon: Silver/Soul Silver. Silver was my very first video game ever, so it's only natural it's my favorite of the Pokemon series. Thought I pretty much like all of the Pokemon games equally. They're all just so awesome!

Mass Effect 2. Out of the three, this game is easily the crowning jewel of the entire series.

Megaman Battle Network 5. From the ashes of the worst game in the series, comes the best game in the series in my opinion.

Pokemon Ruby. I almost said Pokemon Y, but I have way more stories about how much fun I had playing Ruby through.

Pokemon: HeartGold and SoulSilver. It's a remake yes, but it has so much extra features and so much improvement that it might as well be its own game.

Mario: I have a personal bias for Sunshine since I grew up on it but I think 64 is the most revolutionary

Zelda: Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask all have a great story and great music.

  • 5 weeks later...

Mario games are my favorite games.  Right now, I say Super Mario 3D World is my favorite.  For years it was Super Mario Bros. 3 (and I still play and love the heck out of that one).  3D World just did everything right in my opinion; there's so much variety, creativity, and color.  Nowadays, some people like to throw around the word "rehash" concerning Mario games.  I think 3D World packed as much strange and wonderful into one package as possible.  The amazing, oftentimes jazzy orchestral soundtrack certainly didn't hurt.  Honestly, though...  Can't think of a Mario game that I didn't like.

Castlevania series: this one's a tougher pick.  I haven't played Portrait of Ruin in a good long while, but that one's a contender.  The two-character system was maybe a bit tricky / awkward at first, but it felt right once I got the hang of it.  Simon's Quest is also a contender.  Just a seminal, atmospheric entry with some darn good (even by Castlevania standards) music.

The Legend of Zelda: even tougher, I think.  Especially since going back and replaying most of them feels like a real investment to me lol.  Ocarina was *almost* perfect, but I believe whatever small imperfections existed were ironed out in the 3D remake.  I remember, when playing Twilight Princess, that I *thought* it was the best Zelda ever.  Maybe because it felt a bit darker.  Maybe because I was loving the implementation of motion controls...  Dunno.  I also love Zelda II and ALBW.

Dragon Quest: yes, I'm going DQ rather than FF lol.  There are a few really standout FF titles, but every DQ game I've played has a similar and most excellent feel to it.  It's a toss up between V and VI; though maybe VI actually does possess an edge.  It felt BIG, but maintained the same relative simplicity and turn-based goodness that exists throughout the series.  I really enjoyed the two worlds thing.  And even though the story felt a bit on the complex side for a DQ game, I rather enjoyed it as well!  I own a few Super Famicom carts; one of them is Doragon Kuesuto Shikkusu.  I actually played a ways into it (with the benefit of having completed the DS version) despite not being able to read Japanese lol.

In the Arma series, uhh ... fudge. Alright, I'm gonna have to go with Arma 3. Well I mean, I've only ever played 2 and 3, but still. I loved the changes that were made from A2, especially how they improved infantry movement and added better stance adjustment, felt so fluid compared to the previous game. That alone made me love the game so much more! <3

Oooohhh this question.

Rpg, would be a toss up between the fantasy series and the tales series. In final fantasies a 50/50 split with vi(3 if your going by NA release) and ix. Both of these were just so amazing. As for tales it would be abyss hands down.

Pokemon: Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, with Black and White 1 and 2 closely behind

Halo: Halo 3

Assassin's Creed: Assassin's Creed 2, with AC4 also close behind

Smash Bros: Melee

Paper Mario: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

Sonic the Hedgehog: Sonic 2

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess in second place.

Pokemon: Pokemon Crystal

I say Crystal and not Gold/Silver mostly because of Crystal introducing being able to play as a female trainer. However, there were other features that distinguished Crystal as better than Gold/Silver, as well.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

New Leaf actually isn't my favorite, the original GCN version is... But I can't deny that New Leaf is the better game.

Super Smash Bros.: Melee

Mario Kart: Wii.

Take note because this is the only series that I'd even remotely consider my favorite being on the mediocre console that was the Wii.

Super Mario (3D): Sunshine. With 64 in second place.
