That's two one-of-a-kind magical artifacts that exist that:

 

1) greatly amplify a pony's magic

2) alter their thought process/take over their minds

 

Do you think there's any connection between the Inspiration Manifestation Spellbook and the Alicorn Amulet? Does a series of similar dangerous magical artifacts exist across Equestria? I like to think the answer to both of these is yes, but I'm interested to hear your theories.

 

And I am of the opinion that the Inspiration Manifestation Spellbook was quote unquote *ahem* "retrieved unharmed" as Twilight was mad at Spike for taking the book but not at all mad about him destroying it.

That does raise the question if there are more ancient magical artifacts in Equestria, they must have a connection because they are able to control a pony in two different ways.

I'm pretty sure there isn't.

The color of the magic aura the 2 items give are different (red and green)

The way they corrupt the user is different.

The alicorn amulet is less powerful than the Inspiration Manifestation book, since Trixie was able to get rid of it by herself.

 

Though they do pretty much the same thing, I feel like they're from 2 different kinds of magic.

1 & 2) This could be completely intentional. It's a different kind of magic for tackling the same purpose in a different way.

3) Actually, it took the promise of more power and nothing less for her to muster the strength to remove it. All Spike did was tell the truth. Again, different methods of accomplishing the same task that aren't entirely comparable.

I don't think they're related, but I'm sure there are plenty more artifacts like that in Equestria, with many creators.

These two artifacts being out an about shows that Equestria can be a dark and nasty place sometimes. There are probably a lot more like the two that we will probably see in upcoming seasons. I feel like the whole dark magic plot line is really interesting. Obviously Dark Magic is no match for the magic of friendship however. Would make for some kinda predictable episodes but hey as long as they are executed properly I wouldn't mind. That book is almost like a sick joke that teaches a lesson at the end... (oh wait it is ).

I have a theory about this. Much like how I believe that even the most harmonious society needs a dash of chaos to evolve in a healthy matter, perhaps the inspiration manifestation spell was a sort of emergency power used to get stuff done. It's locked away in the castle so nothing silly like lovestruck adolescents stealing it to impress the ladies happens.

 

Probably not connected to the Alicorn Amulet, which I hypothesize to be a "bootleg" artifact of sorts; something created by shadier folks/misguided magic-doers in an effort to endow high level magic that would otherwise go unseen outside of alicorn ascension.

 

 

There are probably a lot more like the two that we will probably see in upcoming seasons. I feel like the whole dark magic plot line is really interesting.

 

Yeah, I get the sense that there was this sort of magical arms race in the wake of Nightmare Moon's banishment, what with the Amulet's existence and Starswirl trying to create destiny-altering spells.

I personally doubt there's any connection between them barring the obvious fact that both of them are used for Dark Magic and corrupt ponies, but I find this to be much more believable than the Changeling thing.

 

Honestly, just because the magic is green does NOT mean that Changelings are involved -_-
