I find it funny how Vinyl Scratch is winning despite having only a few seconds of screen time. There must be some sort of fandom trope where a character with barely any exposure or development becomes wildly popular.

 

I think that the high overall popularity of Vinyl Scratch probably has a lot to do with the fans sensing that great fun that could be had in an episode where she has more screen time. I guess that it could be thought of as the collective wishful thinking of the fandom.

 

With that said, I actually think that the popularity of Vinyl Scratch in this one poll though, has more to do with Trixie being the opposing character. Trixie seems to have some rather devoted fans.

 

Speaking for myself, I confess to receiving some amusement at the thought of trolling Trixie fans by contributing to her wipeout by a character with 3-seconds of screen time. I would imagine that I am not alone.......

When it comes to Vinyl vs. Trixie, I think it's the sandbox mentality behind Vinyl that people vote for her despite the 3 seconds of screen time. By sandbox mentality, it's kinda what Scootacool alluded to, that the fans have so many different thoughts of what Vinyl COULD be, the "possibilities are like endless!", and thus more cool/fun/popular to like Vinyl.

 

Whereas Trixie's character is 100% created and fleshed out to the point where there is little the fandom can add to her character/legacy.

 

And because Trixie's a b****.

Why is it such a surprise that Vinyl Scratch is beating Trixie? There is a ton of fan-art for Vinyl and she has awesome glasses. She is a DJ (DJ pon-3 anyone?) and a lot of people like music.

 

Trixie, on the other hand, is about as close to a villain as you get in MLP FIM without being in the first two episodes of either season. Even though Trixie has probably 20-100 times as much screen time, she is equally one-dimensional.

This. Trixie has fewer, more devoted fans, but Vinyl scratch is the overall more appealing pony for most of us.
