gaming The biggest let down in gaming

I really loved the storyline in Super Paper Mario (and I know at least one other Paper Mario game had a cool story), so I was very disappointed to hear that Sticker Star had no storyline. (I guess I'm just more interested in a game when it actually has some kind of story, ya know? Although I have been willing to make exceptions in the past...but not with Sticker Star. The whole reason I even played SPM was for the story, though the gameplay did turn out to be fun as well.)

Dragonball: Ultimate Tenkaichi, could not have been more dissapointed, why can't they just go back to classic DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi style?  :(

Command and Conquer Red Alert 3!

The units suck, the storyline sucks, and I was generally pissed EA used the aspect of time traveling to remove the Psychic Dominator Disaster and Yuri from Red Alert canon. Especially since Red Alert 2 ended with the impossibility to use such time traveling devices, I guess EA went along from the Allies point of view but still.

Y'know Shadowrun started as a tabletop RPG? It's pretty decent too, so you might be interested in that. If you're the kind of person to like those kinds of games, that is.

Yessir I did. I just don't have friends around who would be interested in the game. :\ I did read the older books though. Oh lord, they were good.

Final Fantasy XIII-2

I'm in that really small ship that enjoyed XIII. I never found any of the characters that annoying and actually found myself enjoying most of them. I also liked the story and the world that the game took place in. The gameplay, this is freaking Final Fantasy, the series that had basically the same simplistic formula for pretty much every game they had. I also loved the ending and thought it was perfect. So when I saw the sequel I was really looking forward to coming back to the characters and seeing what they would do now

...or have non of the main characters from the first game, none of the interesting story, and instead have the character that only had about 10 minutes of screen time in the first game and a generic amnesia case as the main characters, as well as a confusing time travel plot.

There has only ever been one single disappointment in all of gaming for me: Sentinel Returns. This was a disappointment born from misunderstanding more than anything though. When I picked up the game I looked at the back and thought I saw a top-down shooter kinda adventure game. I had terrible eyesight and the pictures were way too small.

What I got was a puzzle game that was way too advance for my nine year old mind to understand. To this day I've put the game in maybe a handful of times to try to get into it but it's far too old to ever sell for anything more than a few dollars.

It would be considerably better with a mouse but I have it on PS1. The original Sentinel was made for PC so it was obviously designed for it. The sequel was the same but the console version exists anyway. :okiedokielokie:

Unlike most people in this topic though I was not disappointed by games like Duke Nukem Forever and Sonic 06. Part of it is that I already knew what to expect before going into it but each has their own thing too. In Duke's case, I just found the game generally very good aside from the two-weapon crap and the twitchy "hit you so hard because you have regenerating health" gameplay. I hate having only two weapons and I hate how cheap enemies are when you have regenerating health. On the upside, the game had lots of personality regardless. Having not played any other Duke games maybe it's bland by comparison but it kept me entertained from start to end in spite of my few problems with it. In Sonic 06's case...I'm a massive Sonic fan. Nothing in the world could make me hate this game no matter how glitchy it was. The only thing the glitches and loading times (moreso the latter than the former) does is prevent me from replaying it. It's been about four years since I played it now though so I may go back and do that.

Half Life 2 in all of its forms..

I found it boring, the characters uninteresting, and Alyx was just effing ANNOYING if anything.. She only got more annoying as they ramped up her necessity.. I do wish there was a mod where I could just shoot her.. and move on with the game.. half the time I didn't even notice her little prompts to look somewhere specific, and other times it was as if she was just doing the "Hey retard! look over here!" motion...

It was alright in a lot of ways, but it was just another on rails shooter. TBH I think most people hyped themselves up so far for it they were just afraid to let it be less than what they hoped for (kind of like what people do for CoD these days)

Every time I think about how the last 10 minutes of a single game ruined the future of an entire franchise, it makes me want to crAwl inside a hole in the wall and die.

I'm looking at you, Mass Effect 3. You took my heart and rubbed your swap a$$ all over it.

It hurts mah poor heart to mention this game; the awful Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gate to Infinity.

Man was it shiet. Blue/Red Rescue Team and Explorers are my favorite games of all time, but they had to ruin the whole serie with that horrible thing. Everything, absolutely everything went downhill, even what they most focused on, the graphics.

It's still the biggest disappointment in my life, and it actually repels me from playing the new games.

Welcome to Square Enix's process, circa 2001.

1. Create concept for new flagship Final Fantasy title. Make it, pack it, ship it.

2. Develop weird fixation on that story arc.

3. Proceed to pump out watered-down sequels and spinoffs based on that arc.

4. When there is absolutely no consumer interest left, repeat from step 1.

I kiiiiiinda liked 13 myself, but it couldn't hold my interest for very long. I do think it was underrated though.

To me, Battlefield 3 was a massive letdown. I came into the game hoping for something far more like battlefield 2. Sure, add destruction, add weapons, but make me use tactics. I don't like random explosions and spam everywhere - where the people who sit in the tanks the whole game get 70+ kills. The UI is horrid, the vehicles controls are annoying, etc. I wanted something so much bigger... Planetside 2 ended up pulling off what I wanted. Actual tactics.

I can probably just say the Wii and end it there.

The only game I enjoyed more than the GCN's iteration was Mario Kart Wii.

Granted, I'm a pretty 'limited' gamer nowadays. I still enjoy games, but I don't actively seek out new franchises or existing franchises I haven't played yet. So, I only played a number of titles, actually.

To varying degrees (pretty much in order of disappointment), Animal Crossing: City Folk, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword all paled in comparison to their GCN 'prequels'.

Although, overall I'd say my biggest gaming letdowns would probably be Animal Crossing City Folk, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, and to a lesser extent, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

All Elder Scrolls games after Morrowind. The series has just lost so much since then.

Also, Diablo 3. What the fuck, Blizzard?

I know plenty of people mention it already, but when I finished Mass Effect 3 I felt like there was some kind of hole in my heart for like a whole week.
