Well, Celestia is an alicorn princess, as are Luna and Cadance, and when Twilight transformed into an alicorn, she becomes a princess.

But Shining Armor and Blueblood are princes, yet are not alicorns, so why not?

So are females the only ones who can become alicorns, and the males can't be alicorns like females?

I don't think it's ever said, but that's the prevailing theory for the most part, I mean also the princes never rule, Shining Armor specifically like is under Cadence technically by organizing security and other things in the Crystal Empire.

While there hasn't been any male alicorns, I don't think that that's necessarily the case. It could very well be but they haven't outright said that males can't be alicorns. It's said that all alicorns are princesses (princes) too, but I don't think it's the other way around, as seen in the case of Shining Armor and Blueblood. They are princes but not alicorns, so there could be princes and princesses that aren't alicorns.

Shining and Blueblood are princes because of who they're related to/marriage and not because of any noteworthy magic or accomplishment. I would like to see a male alicorn someday, though it'd probably be in a flashback or something. Mostly because I'm curious how it'd look.

Also the toy thing :derp:. I imagine there's not as big of a push for the Hasbro people to be selling boy toys, so in turn they're less likely to push the writers to include more random royals in the show.

Prince Blueblood is an arrogant noble that has no power beyond what his barely-relevant title grants him. Shining Armour married Cadence, but that makes him A Husband. Not a Prince, not a Noble, not even anything other than the position he gained by being Captain of the Guard. Ten bucks says the system was designed with immortal demigod Alicorn rulers in mind, allowing for them to have harems of many ponies of assorted ages, ensuring they'd never run out of lovers. Celestia and Luna gave up on this after a few hundred years, and Cadence doesn't care about the new rules enough to change them since it's "Not that big a deal". An extra ten bucks says the system was designed so either few perks or no perks at all were granted to those in an Alicorn's harem, ensuring only ponies who actually loved them enough to join a harem as "One of the lowly harem ponies" for life could join, and also ensuring they could take nobles and commoners at will without dealing with the whole "That lowly pony is suddenly Celestia's best stallion and therefore more politically powerful than me, a high-ranking rich noble! I cannot accept this!" nonsense.

There is a pony princess and a pony king that aren't alicorn, mentioned in The Journal of the Two Sisters. Also, Starswirl The Bearded knows of magic that can extend a pony's life. It is most likely kept a secret from the general population, and Celestia might tell cadence about it, so she could use it on her spouse. Oh, and there might be an episode in the future where Twilight's brother earns the Alicorn transformation/ status. Would be interesting to watch. :)

As for Blueblood, well, as others have alluded to, Becoming an Alicorn is a special privelage, for a special/specific purpose, not a right.

While I had a bit if trouble understanding your question, what I got from it is... Why aren't there any male Alicorns?

That's a food question, but I think that we will see some of them in the future.

I agree with this. Just look at the Duke and Duchess of Maretonia. They're supreme rulers of their territory, but none of them are alicorns.

There seem to be plenty of male fan characters floating around who are Alicorns, but I've never seen one in the official canon, so I'm going to assume only mares can become Alicorns. My headcanon for why they're automatically revered upon becoming one is because they're so ultra powerful that you wouldn't want to mess with them. If you think about it that way, it's an iron-fisted dictatorship.
