    Although I hated Magical Mystery Cure with every fiber of my being, I kind of wonder if it may have been a blessing in disguise, since it made the closed-ended nature of the show's episodes before pointless and gave the writers more freedom to do longer character arcs and plotlines.

    This was definitely a more story-driven episode than usual, but that was kind of what I was hoping for. I expect they'll be back to their usual slapstick hijinks next week.

    I think everyone can agree that the others ditching Twilight was really unnecessary. Feels like they just wrote that in there because they couldn't think of anything else to fill five minutes with. Other than that a very solid start to the season. Incredible effects, interesting backstory (which I suspect was the main purpose of this episode), Pinkie Pie being Pinkie Pie, and teases good things to come for the rest of the season.

    Honestly, I liked the CMC episodes as a whole better than the Mane 6 ones in Season 3. Right now the Mane 6 seem to be locked into their character quirks while the CMCs have room for growth, so I find them more interesting to watch.

    As of now it's the only semi-canon shipping so it's all people have to go on. Personally I see it as the show's way of relating with unrealistic childhood crushes. Spike would go better with just about anyone else in the show.

    I love this episode. Easily the best of season 3 and instantly shot Scootaloo up my favorite character list (still think Sweetie Belle is best CMC, but Scoot is close).

    One (perhaps unrealistic) hope I have is now that they've satisfied Hasbro's toy cravings for the time being and the fanbase is at its peak that they have the freedom to go completely bonkers in season 4, where they can do any story, any relationship, any setting, any joke without worrying about Hasbro's vote of confidence. The promos for the season opener make it look like a full-blown action spectacle (and Hasbro knows it). That makes me optimistic that their creative juices are still very much intact.
