Thank you very much for the feedback! I'm glad you can see all these different sections of rock in that one pony, that's what I was going for! Thankye for the feedback! I don't really think that a rolling stone mane would look as good on him while still displaying some effects of grunge rock. Aaaaaand as for the Electro pony... well, what about a pegasus? They seem active, happy, carefree. The unicorn would be better for dubstep- it's a harder, louder genre, but also does have some electronic feel to it.... (I accidentally the gender. XD) I await your suggestions!

Maple jumped a little. The pegasus from just a a little while ago had rushed over to a mare next to her, and almost knocked the icy blue unicorn down with her in an embrace. Under normal circumstances, she would have been amused at the gesture these two friends were sharing, but she had just tried to escape an awkward situation- Damn it, Maple. Just keep it cool. She's is not going to remember. Don't let one little detail ruin the whole trip! The assistant conductor was inviting them inside the train. With a nod, she waited for the other mares to board first, and followed them inside. As they walked inside the cars, the conductor pointed out their rooms to them. Maple made a mental note to herself that the two mare's rooms were numbers two and four. She might go over to meet them. Making friends was a hobby she particularly liked to practice- even if it would be a strange encounter. Nodding at the colt's gesture toward the door, with a number 12 emblazoned on the frame in some sort of metal, she trotted a little ahead of him, and was about to open the door, when she heard the colt's question. She turned her gaze over to him, and offered him a friendly smile. "Well, you wouldn't believe me if I told you.", she started. "But...I guess there's no way around it. It's just the spirit of adventure." Stifling a laugh, she continued, "You know, I've written quite a few novels about adventures and legends and all that stuff...but I've never really had anything much more exciting happen in my life than this... I'm not even interested in the gambling, I'm just...going! I don't know what I'll do there.", she finished, hoping her answer was enough to satisfy his curiosity. "Hey, thank you...uh, Electrobolt?" she said, trying to remember what the stallion outside had called him. "Thank you for helping me inside. I'm Maple."

Hullo. This is quite the interesting article you have on OC's, and I do agree with many of the points you are making here. You may want to elaborate more on personality, though. It is a VERY important part of a character. Personality matters very much, it is what makes ponies interesting and sometimes even relatable to. It dictates what their next move in fanfiction and RP's will be- and their personality is also defined by their philosophies, beliefs, and history (backstory). You're telling me to avoid one certain thing, and pointing me in the direction of another- that's good, I guess, but I don't think it's enough. We need more reasons, we need examples, EhTehCuh. Some tips on the "Looks" section are quite useful for newbies. I'm glad you talked about colour and variety, as well as the Cutie Mark, of course. I think you might want to think about the "Colour doesn't matter" part of the mane, though. The entirety of the pony should go well with the colours on the rest of the body. AND the colours could also help to identify the pony's origins or job. For example, the Apples all have colours on the left side of the colour spectrum, same as the pples that they grow. Another would be a pony from some sort of arctic habitat- you'd expect colours closer to the right side of the spectrum, the colder colours from cyan to violet, very much like the way their habitat would look- their colours could even be complimentary to their place of origin, but I think I'm getting too far off track. This is usually the norm when designing a pony, to make their mane darker than the coat.

Okay, there's one thing about this fandom- no, about people that is really, really bothering me. People are telling me that they wish they could draw, that they wish that they had the talent to draw. Guys, you don't need natural talent in order to draw ponies. It really hurts me to see people say that they want to draw and they say that they just can't. One reason, is because it's not true. You aren't born with the talent to draw. Like anything, you have to put time and dedication into what you want to do in order to become better. This is the main thing anyone needs in order to become better in whatever they want to do- and this includes artwork. ANOTHER thing that does help is support, such as constructive criticism, tips, or any friends that support your delving into art. This thread is made to give all you newbies and experts another type of support. That is, very useful guides and tips here that any of you could use in order to improve in your FiM artwork, and maybe other artwork. Yuss. I'd love to hear what you have to say about the future designs of the ponies. Also, I hope I got the mane okay. You mentioned the colour, and an idea of what the mane would be like. While drawing it, though, I accidentally made that pointy bit near the ear, and thought that that would be a good addition to it. I hope it was at least vaguely similar to what you what you were thinking of. ocarp. Actually, Dawn Rider said that he imagined the pony wearing headphones, and I totally meant to draw them, but it seems like I forgot when I focused on dat mane. Not so sure about the shades, but yeah, I should have drawn those headphones. Also, Akoura, I think it would be best if the ponies I created were left simple, but memorable. I don't want to create a complete mess, and I don't want to create a blank character. I need to make them memorable, but not overwhelming. Thank you for the feedback! And it was no problem. Maple idly stirred her plate of apple salad. She glanced at her neighbor from time to time, who seemed to be trying to strike up a conversation. He never really seemed to know when to stay quiet, did he? Still, he was only trying to be friendly.It was strange, she had only just met this colt, and yet he was the subject of many of her thoughts... Finally, Max seemed to have convinced everypony to introduce themselves. She decided listened intently to everypony's introduction. Max was first to introduce himself. "Heh, feels like kindergarten as a new student. My name is Max, and I am Pegasus. Couldn't you tell?" Maple tried her best to suppress a giggle at his commentary. It was a cheesy joke, but she laughed nonetheless. "Spent most of my life in Ponyville, I do what I can to help others whenever possible, I am taller than normal ponies...Had a wife 2 years back. She died in the Everfree forest, and I only recovered from amnesia about the event about 6 months ago." She turned her head back up at Max, registering the information given to her, She had already noticed that he was tall, but it was strange that she had never met him back in Ponyville... though, as he mentioned amnesia and his wife, she supposed he was under hospitalization for much time... she also sent Max the deepest of condol- "Have a necklace that glows brighter the more I fall in love and it attracts ghost." Wait. What was that first part?! She quickly turned back to her apple salad, and began furiously picking at it while Max concluded his introduction. Maybe he wasn't referring to her?! Maybe she just heard things? She was blushing furiously, and she hated it. When the pony called Goldseek finished her own introduction, she tried to clear her mind of what her neighbor had just said, raised her head a little, and began. "Well, I'm a pony from Manehattan. I've gone through a few schools, and travelled from city to city, studying literature. I write stories. Right now, I've settled down in Ponyville, where there is room for many stories and many nice people." She quickly set her gaze back to the salad- the sliced, diced, and torn up salad. She did not rehearse that last part, and was completely aware of its corniness. She took a quick bite out of it, and tried not to keep looking back up at her neighbor- and failed.
