I'm gonna be upfront and honest here: People should not under any circumstances begin drawing by drawing anime. The problem here is that professional mangakas and people who work at Japanese animation studios KNOW what they're doing when they're breaking form. That's because they begun by drawing from life, and by practicing human anatomy, et cetera, et cetera, and only DEVELOPED their own manga style later on in life. When an inexperienced artist tries to tackle an anime/manga style from the onset, the results tend to look very jumbled, anatomically incorrect, and sometimes outright unpleasant. My advice for you would be to study real people, and learn to understand anatomy before attempting to "break the human form" like professional manga artists do.
