  1. I don't know if it's possible, but I would have preferred to not use a "first to the past the post" style voting system. I get that's its a bit easier, but if the site's system could handle it, a first-second-third style voting would have been nice. Then again, that's how I feel about most voting
  2. Smile! There are plenty of others, but for me, that's the one.
  3. So many choices! I guess it would depend on wether or not they worked properly here. A wand and spell books from Harry Potter, or a vortex manipulator from Dr Who would be high on the list. Equestria Girls makes it seem like grabbing an element of harmony could be 'fun' too. On a bad day, Necronomicon, or some other necromantic tome. Raising an army of the dead seems like a good way to let off steam Plus, who doesn't want a skeletal minion? Besides being super useful, how great would it be to have it hide in the closet during parties? Guest: "I've heard you've got skeletons in your closet." Me: "just the one..." Guest: "wha..ahhargg.." Skeleton: *nom NOM nom* Me: "aww, he likes you"
  4. You dare to question Pinkie Pie!? She will devour your soul and... Oh hey look a kitty! Confession: I meant to goto bed 3 hours ago, and now I've killed my battery for a third day in a row on this site

    mega thread Feminist Club!

An interesting thread to say the least. - When and why did you become a feminist? Never. I believe in equality. That does qualify me for feminist as defined here. Why? That's harder to pin down... I guess it stems from my rather fervent belief that all people are valuable. - Why do you think feminism is still relevant to today's world? Absolutely. It could even be reasonable to say that if you don't believe that, then you are either stupid or blind - What is difficult about being a feminist in general? The extremists. As society progress, the realization that we are all just people becomes harder to ignore. We all have equal rights and freedoms. Extremists slow that progress by spread more hated/intolerance. - How do you think feminism gets treated in the MLP fandom? In my experience, pretty fairly - How does MLP support your feminist values? Quite well. That said, it's certainly possible that some issue have been whitewashed. - How do people react when you say you're a feminist? Since I say "equality," they say nothing. It's hard to say that people should be treated differently. Not because dissenters don't believe that, but because it's asinine to say it aloud. Personally, I rather dislike the term "feminist." But that is strictly due to poor connotation. In all honesty, I don't care about your genitals or demeanor, or what you want in a partners genitals or demeanor. I really have never understood discrimination, and can't abide by it in any form. I think all people should be treated like people. The draft was mentioned, so I'll weigh in briefly. Should women have to sign up like men? Yes. However, I think the draft should be repurposed. Even without repurposing, I'd still support equal enrollment. Not all men are cut out to be in the front lines. And you're only crippling yourself if you don't take advantage of all your resources in a war. Who knows, the next Simo Hayha (1939 sniper with over 700 accredited kills) could be a drafted woman. I, on the other hand, am an asthmatic. I'd be less than useless in a fire fight. Should I be drafted come war? Sure, but something not front line.
  6. I've heard a lot of good about those Sakura pens, but have never used em myself. I tend to stick to graphite... Maybe I should give em a try. Adorable flutters! You've got a cute style I haven't seen in ponies before.
  7. How about this? OM NOM NOM NOM... ... Also because of the pic where flutters is asking for a brohoof, I can't NOT give her one anymore >.>
  8. I have a Dashie. I cuddle her when I'm sleeping. And I made her a case so she can hang out with me all the time, even when I don't have enough hands to hold her I got her when I was sick back in December. We haven't been apart a single day since.
  9. Focus is good. Plenty of programming tutorials out there. As to writing, try free writing. It's a bit less stress and can help the creative juices get flowing.
  10. I was actually thinking of starting a thread for weight-loss. I'm trying to get healthier, and could really use some friendly support. As to your question, I'd need more details to give decent advice. Most of what needs to be said already has been. Weight loss is actually easier if you have more muscle. Also, cardio is improved by strength training as well. A solution (besides crossfit if you can do it) would be to focus on some muscle gain, then switch to weight loss while keeping strength at a maintence level. Further, muscle building has prolonged effects on metabolism. Simply, muscle burns more calories than does fat. Finally, from my understanding, the 500 Calories you speak of to add muscle, while mostly true, is more accurately stated as needing 20 grams of protein per meal and three meals a day. I recently switched to a no calorie counting diet and lost 15lbs in 4 weeks (of which 10lbs was fat). So make sure your diet matches your activities, it makes a huge difference. I have plenty more info, depending on what you want to know. TL;DR 1: cardio burns more in the short term, strength adds muscle, which burns more while resting (BMR) 2: strength training does add mass
  11. Usually I'm an ice dragon, I even have a special number. And I have used in every online persona I have. Even here it's my login name. However, as a pony site I figure dragons are not really the right vibe. So I go with brony. Icee is a combination of several things: my original name (online), the common form of said name (icee or icy as it's much or playful than ice), and of course the awesome frozen drink that I've loved since I was hatchling (foal? kid? whatever)
  12. If I became an alicorn... That would be awesome! I'd move to Ponyville so I could take time to master my powers and make friends with all the ponies there. Beyond that, well it depends on the particulars. I'd meet my very special somepony (who would depend on who's available, I couldn't bring myself to break them up if they were truly happy). Then I'd become master of time as space as a Time Lord Pony

    mega thread Feminist Club!

Ok, I didn't reading hardly anything here, because it's my bedtime. But I was... disappointed? to see that this is a thread about equality, not superiority. Equality is logical and reasonable (and I support it beyond what most people are comfortable with), superiority is fun to poke. I know, I know, no trolling. But few groups are so worthy of it as ANY superiority group. Oh well. I'll follow this thread and make a more insightful post tomorrow. Glad to see reason in what is all to often a very UNreasonable topic.
  14. I like this topic! *ahem* most Christians are satanic, lawyers are soulless evil beings (when enlightenment comes they will all be launched into the sun), celebrities are lame, people should be more vocal about things they don't like, education does not equate to intelligence, education is non-transferable (I don't care if you're a neuro-surgeon, you don't know anything about paving a road or economics, so shut up about it), people should be expected to do their jobs properly, I shouldn't have to double check everyone to make sure they did it right, people need to pay attention more, I believe in freedom and equality: you want to sacrifice a virgin to satan? Fine. Good luck finding some willing to agree to that. You are (or should be) free to do whatever you damn well please as long as you don't interfere with someone else. Take some damn responsibility! That's probably enough for now. It's nice to vent off some of that (I'm actively trying to not re-read any of it). Sometimes I feel like a jerk for thinking some of these things. And that coming from a guy who can laugh with his wife about they split all the house work: she's fat and I'm lazy
  15. What's the saying? "Never give up! Never surrender!" Or maybe it was " MUFFINS!" Either way, try loving on yourself first. The happier you are with yourself, they happier you'll be with someone else. And, if no one else does come along, who cares? You're still happy.
  16. The Late Night Shine said more or less everything that needs saying Also: moonstuck
  17. Dr Who, 1963-current (yes I know it's not continuous). Would I like to see mlp:fim go on forever? Yes. Is it easy? No. New characters, new places, taking a year or two off, all can help the show stay fresh. Better to take a break than to produce something of a lower quality. Even losing a character or two could prove helpful. Imagine the Mane 6 if Rainbow Dash becomes a Wonderbolt and has to move to Cloudsdale, and Rarity gets a major break in Manehattan. The show could skip ahead to a new generation of ponies, where Applebloom is Granny Smith's age. There are plenty of things to do, it's just a matter of avoiding burnout.
  18. @@Jeric & @@ggg-2 The potion AB was trying to make was make a magic plant growing formula. They tested it on an apple seedling @@Zygen The episode was "Call of the Cutie." Also, I'm still trying to figure out how to tag properly
  19. @@EquestrianScholar It's funny that "Show Stoppers" is a determining factor for Applebloom's cutie mark. That is really the only time she has shown any interest in construction, isn't it? In "Pinkie Apple Pie," for example, AB doesn't suggest fixing or repairing the cart when it breaks. Seems like a missed opportunity to point her towards construction. E.g.: AB: "Can't we just fix it?" Big Mac: "Nope." Applejack: "I'm sorry sweetie. There's no way..." Granny Smith: "No, but that gives me an idea! We could use the parts and this sap to build a raft." (Back to story) Also, the cutie-pox episode doesn't happen until after "Show Stoppers," and that's AB's first hands-on experience with potions. After creating (and being infected with) a long-dead disease, the first thing she does after being cured is to go try again. Later she shows aptitude for creating the finicky zap apple jam... "I think this is the best zap apple jam I've tasted yet" -Scootaloo. Sweetie Bell and Granny Smith add on as well. Then AB promptly misses the talent, as in "Show Stoppers." Which adheres to the Cutie Mark Crusaders aptitude for not quite understanding cutie marks. I'm struggling to think of any other times that AB has shown interest in construction... The only thing I've got is the "Apple Family Reunion," where all the Apples help rebuild the barn. Any examples would be appreciated.
  20. Off topic: I totally want to see a Skyrim cutie mark! Dovahpony, Dovahpony, naal ok zin los vahriin, Wah dein vokul mahfaeraak ahst vaal! Ahrk fin norok paal graan fod nust hon zindro zaan, Dovahpony, fah hin kogaan mu draal!
  21. Will Applebloom have an apple related cutie mark? I'd say no, unless it's a zap apple something-or-other. She seems to enjoy farming and construction, but that may be a result of growing up with it. There may be no passion there at all. Like Pinkie Pie, who presumably is a decent rock-farmer, her cutie mark may be nothing at all like her family's marks. I think she'll end up with a potion mark (which could be a jar of zap apple jam...). To cross cultures for a moment: potion-making is "[an] subtle science and exact art..." -Severus Snape. The zap apples, Zecora, cutie-pox, and lessons with Twilight all seem to point to an underlying passion and understanding, IMO
