  1. Me and my friend agree this episode is some hot trash, this episode was Newbie Dash, Fluttershy edition. Josh Hamilton is proving himself to be a very mediocre writer with each subsequent episode of his. YOU DO NOT MAKE A CHARACTER WHO'S LIFE HAS BEEN CARING FOR ANIMAL SUDDENLY START TO DISRESPECT THEM and then turn around and HAVE THE GULL TO ATTEMPT TO RATIONALIZE IT. This is a shining example of an episode disregarding nearly everything about the character involved that has been established over the last 7 years to make the episode's plot work. This would have been funny for a one off gag but no this is THE WHOLE EPISODE, just Fluttershy acting nothing like herself. I think it would have been a much better episode if Fluttershy had lied about the clothing to sell it and ponies would come back or return it unsatisfied and Rarity would come back and fix it or something. That's what I thought it was leading up to. We would end with some moral about not lying about an item to sell it or stretching the truth or something. But it seems I was giving the episode too much credit. Also what about Coco Pommel? (she will always be Coco Pommel to me) Where the heck was she? I was under the impression that she was in charge of the Manehattan store (Rarity) Ponyville (Sassy Saddles) Canterlot (Coco Pommel) Manehattan... makes since right? I mean Rarity knows her, she's well versed in fashion, and she showed up in the Saddle Row episode. Either that cold killed her or the writer forgot about her existence and considering this episodes quality I am willing to bet the second option. terrible 4.5/10
  2. Wow. I have not posted here in a loooooooong time Guess I'll fix that So what did I think of the Season 8 premiere? It's a pretty good episode but it's really just setting the stage for the rest of the season. I liked the new students but I feel they didn't leave as big an impact on me as they should have as I can barely remember their names. This is a hard episode to judge cause it's like trying to judge the dinner you are gonna receive at a restaurant by just the appetizer. As I said, the episode is good but it's a set up more than anything. Not saying that's a bad thing, but it makes it harder to critique cause I would like to see what they do with the school angle. I tried to not watch anything from the content flood and I mostly succeeded, I quickly skimmed one episode but that's it. Point is I want to know what they do with the school angle. I do have one issue. I found the ending to be anticlimactic the ending basically is That's the biggest Issue I have with the episode really. Everything else is pretty solid, I like the songs too. They canonized the movie as well, I feel that is worth mentioning. I still think it would have been better if it was set between seasons 6 and 7 rather than 7 and 8. Cause, like in the movie where were the pillars or the elements of harmony? It would have worked for season 6 and 7 cause the elements weren't at the mane 6's disposal but now they are again, but that's a nitpick and this is about the season 8 premier, not the movie. Anyway I think the episodes were pretty good 8/10 overall
  3. I normally go to sleep anywhere from 2AM-4AM an admittedly destructive sleep schedule and one I would like to change and whittle down to at least 1:00AM -2:00AM Kinda sad when I actually get to fly out to a con and am working on only 3-5 hours of sleep for that first day
  4. because maybe evil red eyed anime girl looks cool
  5. The fic has not aged well in my opinion. Many of the (at the time) groundbreaking ideas in MLD that garnered the fic praise back when it was first written have been so run into the ground and overdone today that people don't like it as much as they used to. At least that is what I think, I don't exactly have a case study or testimonials from anyone to back me up on that. Displacement fics are just as looked down upon now as HiE fics, Needless wish fulfillment trite. We would all love to be in the physical presence of (insert favorite character here) and that is the fantasy MLD presents. There is one little tidbit about the fic now though. It says in the fic that MLP ran for 8 seasons... and if MLP ends after season 8 (which I personally hope it doesn't) but if it does... then the writer successfully predicted the future... That's worth something right? I think it is... even if it was just a lucky guess.
  6. I wanted to mention this is my review for the Episode but I think it would be better fit for discussion. Now that the season 7 finale is out I have a question that is on my mind. It was confirmed by one of the writers of the movie that it takes place between seasons 7 and 8 but that makes me question some things. In the Season 7 finale Twilight and he friends got the Elements of Harmony back and Starswirl and the pillars returned to and are now staying in Equestria so that makes we wonder. If Twilight and her friends had access to the Elements of Harmony in the movie then why didn't they try and to get them when Tempest attacked. Celestia suggesting they go to the Hippogriff kingdom made since when the movie came out cause we all thought the elements were still in the Tree of Harmony but now since they have access to them again wouldn't it have made more since to try and use them? I also think such a large attack would get Starswirl's attention and he would try to formulate a plan to try and stop The Storm King but this is more of a minor nitpick. You could also ask what Starlight and or Discord tried to do in the wake of this attack but we see nothing so I am willing to let that slide. I'am genuinely curious as to why they didn't try the Elements. I get because story or whatever but I think you should exhaust all your options before traveling to a place you have never been to before. I would like to hear what you guys think of this. I think it would be way better and more fitting to have the Movie take place between seasons 6 and 7 rather than seasons 7 and 8.
  7. So It has finally come to pass, the end of season 7 and my what a season it was. I loved this episode and I want to start out by pointing out a rather abstract reason for my liking it that probably gives this episode way more weight in my personal opinion than it should have. I mentioned this in a previous post in a older thread a while back but this episode shares a lot of similarities to Zelda Ocarina of Time for me. I see the six pillars as the six sages Starswirl- Rauru Meadowbrook- Saria Rockhoof- Darunia Mistmane- Princess Ruto (bit of a stretch but) Flash Magnus- Impa Somnambula- Nabooru Stygian/Pony of shadows - Gannondorf Banished to Limbo- The six sages sealed Gannon away There are a lot of similarities and the OoT lover in me loved this episodes because of these connections. It's not perfect but it's pretty close. About the actual episode It's not as action heavy as the other finales but it's a nuclear bomb of world building. Where to begin... I guess I'll start with the writing and characters. I have no clue how JOSH-FREAKING-HABER of all writers was able to give 15 character's all equal screen time but somehow he did and none of it seems off or forced. I will admit when Josh's first episode Castle-Mania graced my computer screen back at the beginning of season 4 I thought the episode was pretty shit. Simple Ways failed to impress as well. Leap of Faith was okay but nothing to write home about. The Crystaling was uhh decent, and everything after Stranger Than Fanfiction was pretty good. I will admit Josh Haber had an uphill battle to make me like him but I can say after this episode he has finally earned my full respect. I like all the pillars I think I like my favorite is Meadowbrook they are all very unique and I love all the different accents and all that. I never thought that stupid little campfire stories episode, Daring Done, and A Health of Information would be foreshadowing the finale, genius writing there. (Not being sarcastic or anything I really mean that.) I like the resolution to the episode as well, I will admit Stygian's plan was pretty stupid but you can at least see where he was coming from so it all checks out. As for that backstory I loved seeing the sirens, that was awesome as hell. I didn't want to give a half baked review of this episode but I am not sure what else to say and all these incoming replies are shattering my concentration, LOL. So I will end this here by saying I really loved the episode and it was a great end to a great season. Part 1 9.5/10 Part 2 10/10 Overall 10/10
  8. Kind of disappointed that Starlight isn't a result you can get cause I often feel I am the most like her. I took the test and got Twilight, I have no clue why cause like... Dude, I am NOT a bookworm, I am not always striving to learn more, I don't really see myself as the glue holding my friends together either. Yeah I don't really agree with the test. I haven't seen pony personality tests in a LOOOOOOOOONG time tho so like this kinda took me back. (update) So I realized there was another link and took that test and I got best pony (Rarity) as a result This test really AND I MEAN REALLLLLLY places me firmly in the Rarity group. Photo Finish - 2 Rarity - 2 Sweetie Belle - 2 Princess Cadence - 1 Zecora - 1 Twilight Sparkle - 1 Princess Luna - 1 Applejack - 1 Didn't even get rarity first Apparently the test says I am most like Photo Finish, I guess. Given my love for photography that is way more accurate than it should be. It's more accurate than saying I am like Twilight. I'll give it that, but I still believe I am most like Starlight.
  9. Cursed to hate MLP and everything is stands for like most people sadly
  10. I don't want to give a review of Shadow Play yet but I want to ask here... I'am I the only one who saw a huge comparison to The Legend Of Zelda in that episode? Specifically Ocarina of Time? I'll explain why I think this when I review the episode when it comes out in a little less than 3 weeks. Hopefully the people who have already seen it here know what I mean. If you haven't seen it and are waiting for the release, think of Zelda Ocarina of Time when you are watching it... You will be stunned at how similar it is.
  11. I wish that could have happened too but people are too narrow minded. I think 'professional" critics dismissing the movie as trash before they even enter the theater speaks volumes on where this IP lies with most people. It doesn't matter what they did, people would have still found an excuse to shit on it. MLP has a stigma and it's one people can't comprehend it breaking so some just blew this film off despite it being perfectly passable. At least that's how I see things.
  12. So I just came back from seeing the movie and I think it was pretty damn good. I don't think it's the greatest thing ever but I do like it and I will explain why but first I want to say. I have seen a few negative reviews of this film so far. It seems (at least to me) that the ones who are eagerly ripping this movie to shreds are people who have decided it was going to be garbage before the film even started. "Oh well it's My Little Pony so like... it's BOUND to be AWFUL, just a soulless 90 minute toy commercial. There is NO WAY they could make a GOOD movie out of this. Upon viewing the film I was right, 2/10." I wish more people went into this film with an open mind. The thing that really get's under my skin is when a critic says they know bronies who don't like the movie and says "well even bronies hate this movie." As if the two bronies you know who didn't like the film represent a fandom of hundreds of thousands of ppl, fuck off *coughohhiwhattheflickcough.* Also before I start, spoiler warning! I tried to keep the review as spoiler free as I could by keeping things vague but I still do explain some pretty spoiler-ish stuff so this is a warning. However what are my thoughts? Well I personally love the film and I think it was great, there are a few small flaws and I guess I will cover those first. A few people are complaining about the pacing but the only place I have any sort of issue with it is how quickly the parrots decided to be pirates again. If it were up to me I would have had them be a bit harder to convince and show apprehensiveness towards the idea, but that's a small nitpick. I wish the storm king had a bit more screen time as well, Tempest was a great villain but I wish we could have seen a little more of the big bad "magic tough guy". I have seen people already putting the film under a microscope already and spotting errors which don't even phase me, Humans are not perfect if the animation has a couple errors like missing wings on a pony in the background then that's fine and understandable. If an animation has a lot of errors or ones that really noticeable are then it's a concern. The movie has only one of those moment's when the cake falls on top of Twilight , I think we should be able to see RD's eye from the angle she's at but she doesn't have it. that's the biggest error I spotted. Hopefully I explained that well enough, this error is also present in the first trailer. Now about the things I DID like. The songs were great but a few were kinda forgettable like Crapper's song, Rainbow also doesn't stick with me either, I think it's too short and Sia sings like she got a mouth full of marbles. The songs I do like are, We Got This, especially Rarity's verse in that song. I like It's Time To Be Awesome, that's a good one. Probably my favorite song in the movie is One Small Thing, just a real fun and jazzy number. Tempest's song, Open Your Eyes, was pretty good as well. I really like all the guest stars performances but if I had to pick my favorite... I know this is a strange and unorthodox choice especially considering her character really have that much screen time but my favorite was Uzo Aduba as Queen Novo. IDK why but I just really loved the voice she gave. but all of them were great I really liked Emily Blunt as Tempest Shadow, Liev Schreiber as the Storm King was great too. Taye Diggs was pretty funny as Capper. The animation was very Disney-like and top notch. Fuck anyone who says otherwise. I know that might be a pretty heavy statement but I don't care! The animation is not cheap or bad in this, it's AMAZING. Yes it is different and more whimsical than the show but everything still retains it's form. I was worried that it would be so different to the point of alienation but not so, I was able to adapt and accept it pretty quickly. The story is pretty good too, not the most original thing in the world, but I liked it well enough. I really like the scene where Twilight fights with her friends. That scene almost made me cry when I saw it. Powerful moment there, it was real stupid of Twilight to try to do what she did but I am pretty sure her moral compass was thrown way out of whack being in such unfamiliar territory. Her actions, while highly irrational upon reflection, were explainable given the circumstances. The film gets real intense at and end and some parts left me on the edge of my seat, especially the scenes of Canterlot near the end of the movie. It was almost uncomfortable to watch it was so grim, and I mean that in a good way. So all and all I really liked the movie I highly recommend it. All my fears and uncertainties were laid to rest. I was initially worried about the inclusion of the anthro characters like Capper and the pirates cause I thought they would not fit at all but somehow they made it work and I couldn't be happier. I ended up liking the pirates way more than I thought I would. So for my rating I think the movie was well worth the wait! 9.5/10
  13. MLP has a large bias AGAINST it so I won't be surprised if general audiences hate bomb it early on. But in the long run I think it's a safe bet to say the score will come to rest somewhere between 50% and 70% both with critics and general audiences I don't know about any one of you all but I personally have disliked a lot of the trailers that have been released for the movie. I don't know what it is but I don't like what I see, I don't like how short the ponies are, I don't like the dialogue or songs in said trailer, I am having a REAL hard time accepting the anthro characters. The art style while stunning is so different from the show that I am actually struggling to buy that this is even based on the same thing I mean clearly it is but it's looks so different... a little too different. But despite all the doubts I have I am still going to see the movie and give my thoughts... somewhere
  14. Hunh, interesting, I didn't think you could walk around the hotel in just pajamas... Well I guess that depends what said pajamas are. Anyway yes seeing an episode at a convention is an amazing experience and one that Bronycon attendees could have had this year but didn't because... I have no clue. Anyway I experienced that for the first time this year at BABSCon 2017 and it was a great moment. I agree with you that it is an event unlike any other I was looking forward to having a similar viewing experience at Ciderfest. It will still happen, I will still watch it there, and I will still have a good time, but I will know that however full that panel will be It would likely have been fuller had the episode not aired in Canada six days prior.
  15. *Eye twitch* Uncommon Bond six days early... Well, as someone who was planning to see that episode at Ciderfest (seeing that it's WAS the "new" episode airing that weekend) I am not happy... That episode screening panel is going to be significantly smaller because of this. fuckyoucanada I thought last time when the first half of the season aired early in spring, oh whatever, happens sometimes I just thought it was especially bad. But now it's starting to piss me off cause it's starting to legitimately fuck up ppl's plans, not just mine. A large reason I haven't posted my thoughts or reviews of any season 7 episodes this year in the threads is because I have no idea when to do them due to the early releases. Do I post it after I see the early release? Well I try and see that no thread exists on the episode... I come back when the episode airs and a thread exists but there is 7 pages of posts with the last reply being two days ago and maybe 3 to 8 new posts after that... tops? It is very annoying to me and I have no idea how Hasbro is allowing it to happen... maybe because all their focus is on the release of the movie now? IDK... I have loved a large majority of season 7 but the whole early release thing is starting to really take it's toll and it looks like some ppl are starting to agree (at least from what I am seeing here) I mean it starts off cool like, "Oh sweet, more pony sooner!" but now it's like "Really? I mean... come on dude... a little consistency please?" *Sigh* I am going to try to avoid spoilers for Uncommon Bond... IDK about the finale... That may be a challenge I am not sure I am up to... A quick look through derpibooru last night made me think Marks and Recreation may have aired somewhere already as well. I saw more images than there should be pre-airing so IDK what the heck is going on there.
  16. meh not all that funny 3/10 Let's see about this one
  17. not a bad song but not my thing 6/10 you thought that was bad... Hunh you don't know what else I have in store. Here is another song that illustrates my thoughts on this thread quite well I think this song will be up everyone in here's alley cause the name of the album is skeleton YOU GUYS LIKE DEATH RIGHT?!?!?!
  18. 5/10 I am sorry I don't like it I was sitting around and thinking, just taking stock of all the music posted in here and I want to post a song who's sound accurately reflects the current state of this thread in my opinion and I believe this one is a pretty good representative.
  19. 4/10 It's just like whatever
  20. UGH there are better songs from Hercules and WAY better songs from Disney in general This song started off ok and then just got terrible. I mean it's iconic sounding but when Hercules starts singing louder and higher it just gets shrill and annoying. and DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT FUCKING PEGASUS that thing was so happy and strange looking it actually freaked me out a bit. This song doesn't beloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong in my list of favorite Disney songs 6.5/10 Got another new song that has been completed for a while but just uploaded today another one of my favorite tracks off of Guardians.
  21. 3/10 Sorry I didn't like it So, TAPS anyone remember him? He used to make brony music like a long time ago. Well he's not doing that anymore here's what hes doing now. As a matter of fact this song was released mere hours ago. It's his take on Future Bass and is sounds pretty unique and quintessentially TAPS.
  22. Gauntlet of Fire Inspiration Manifestation Secret Of My Excess Not a spike episode but he was also notably great in The Crystaling That's all I can think of all the others are meh to flat out bad, especially Princess Spike, Spike At Your Service, and UGH Power Ponies
  23. I'am surprised noone has said Spike yet. Almost every Spike episode is pretty terrible except for a select few Spike episodes have gotten way better in recent years though.
