Anybody here watch Stargate SG:1? They had a 200th episode celebration where they had a whole bunch of short skits because there was going to be a movie made about the Stargate program. And so a whole bunch of ideas were tossed around and they had a lot of comedic moments that reflected back on earlier seasons and episodes and poked fun at the show. Like the Star Trek parody! Or the bit with the Invisible Jack O'Neill! Or poking fun at how many TV shows and movies need to be more "edgy" for the teenagers! Man I love Stargate. I would love to see a Stargate reference in the show. That would make my entire life! But yeah, something like the 200th episode of Stargate. That would be fantastic!

general How often do you speak to your friends?
Archangel replied to Tech Reel's topic in General Discussion
I generally talk to my friends fairly often. My closest friends I speak to roughly every day or so. Sometimes I'll take days where I just want to hole up in my room with my Kindle and ignore everything, but those don't happen to frequently. For my other friends it varies a bit. For a couple of them our interests became too different, and it's not that we don't like each other a lot still or anything, just that we have nothing in common to do or talk about anymore. Which is sad. And then there's the friend who I grew up with since I was four, and for eight years we both went to the same single room school house and the same church. So we saw each other near daily. Now in college, we still live with each other and share a house. It's fantastic! But we don't talk much at all over the summer unless he comes over to watch the latest episode of ponies. Or have some tea. Or both. It's not bad, we just need a break from each other since we usually see each other every day during school time. But generally I keep in touch with my friends. I am pretty bad at starting conversations, but thankfully my friends are usually doing that part so it's easier on me. I was worried my high school friends would drift apart afterwords, but three years later, we're all still here. I'm very thankful to have such great friends! Dunno what I'd do with out them. Lose my mind probably. -
No. No I don't. For one thing, they can't even solve all the problems on their world. If they can't handle one entire planet, why give them another? Clearly it would be too much work. Luna has such a masochistic streak that she endangered all of Equestria! Talk about irresponsible. All that would happen, is they would come to Earth, maybe solve a couple issues, they do after all have magic, and then learn the depressing reality that not everyone can be happy with everyone else. And ultimately, there will be war on this planet until the last sentient beings die. Or, worst case scenario, they realize that by coming over to another planet that thinks itself alone and knows not the intentions of inter-dimensional beings that they've caused a whole host of new problems. If not a slew of terrorist activities and wars. Simply by showing their heads. Then they sink into literal and emotional squalor living in the mud until they crawl back to their own kingdoms and stop trying so hard to resist the futility of conflict and Equestria descends into the same madness that our planet is in. See, the only real difference between our world and theirs, is that they actually have magic, and are naive enough to believe that the power of friendship will solve everything.

Do you miss the Golden Oaks Library?
Archangel replied to Azureth's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
On one hand I like that Twilight has a castle to reflect her new princess status. Even though it'seems a garish, ugly, mess of a thing. Plus, the holographic map of plot device is rather cool. On the other hand, I have read so much fanfiction and so many seasons with the library that, like many others here in this forum, the library felt like a home to me. Plus, it just feels wrong for Book horse to have a home without a library. I suppose we can make the assumption that she has a library in there somewhere, but we have yet to see it as far as I am aware. Plus I also enjoyed Twilight as caretaker of a public source of knowledge. That just seemed like her right? But as I said earlier, she is a princess so having a castle to rule from feels right. I just wish it wasn't this garish mess of crystal that we got. -
I wasn't sure which one I should vote for in this poll. In general I enjoy my solitude, and I need breaks from even my closest and dearest friends. I need my Curl-up-with-my-Kindle-and-a-cup-of-tea-and-some-Bach time y'know? When I'm in the home I grew up in, I find I tend to get irritated by the antics of my parents every now and then. Small stuff really, but it bothers me. Like how I'll be reading a book and dad will non-stop keep talking to me despite the fact I pretty clearly am trying to read. Or blathering on about something he didn't like while I'm watching a TV Show. Yet when I go into the kitchen and quietly ask where mom went while he's listening to his podcast loudly enough to wake the dead, he yells at me. Or how, because my father works at home, he often comes upstairs and knocks on my door to say hi. Which is nice, really. Except it happens far too often. An hour and a half is generally the longest period of time I'll go without interruption. On the other hand, I live downstate with a friend who is basically family in every way but blood and we share a house all to ourselves for college. That works out great. Some days we won't even see each other because we're both locked away in our rooms, sometimes we'll have tea together or watch a movie, and nothing either of us does annoys the other. Well, except that that he doesn't keep the kitchen clean or do the dishes, but I don't give him hate for that because neither do I! So it's nice to live with a friend that's family, but I'd rather be alone than with live with my real family. Maybe sharing a house for 2 and a half years isn't enough time to really find out if you dislike living with someone, I don't know, but so far, those are my preferences. Although I would like to point out, like many others here, no matter who I'm living with, I need my alone time.

Was Princess Cadence a Mary Sue?
Archangel replied to CastletonSnob's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
First off, I'd like to point out that I made that post in 2012. Four years ago. I must've been barely into my second or third year of high school by that point. A lot has changed since then. Both in my understanding of well-written characters and Mary Sues, as well as in the show itself. I don't think I'd call Cadence a Mary Sue, or Luna for that matter. Was the ending a little Deus Ex Alicorn? Yes, yes it was. But that tends to happen a lot on a show that only has 22 minutes of run-time so I can forgive it that flaw. Honestly the thing that still bugs me about that episode today is how was Cadence able to defeat the Changelings with a big bubble of Love? Y'know, the very thing the Changelings were after in the first place? Shouldn't they have just been able to absorb that as their own power? If any character, Twilight is now probably the one closest to a Mary Sue. I still don't think I'd call her one though. Close, but no cigar. Also, wow, holy thread-necro Batman! Not that I'm really helping by posting here and keeping it alive, but still. -
You know how some people throw away their candy and keep the wrapper? I tend to do that with everything. For example, when I finally got my new Kindle Voyage I eagerly tore the packaging open, threw the Kindle away to the side and stared at the package with a smile on my face for a full second before I realized what I did.

"Indeed" -Teal'c Stargate SG-1 "Apathy is death." -Kreia StarWars Knights of the Old Republic Bonus points to those who can guess what all of the following of my favorite quotes have in common! "Wherever we look, the work of the chemist has raised the level of our civilization and has increased the productive capacity of our nation." --Calvin Coolidge "Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves." --Albert Einstein "Computer are like Old Testament gods: lots of rules and no mercy." --Joseph Campbell "The day when two army corps can annihilate each other in one second, all civilized nations, it is to be hoped, will recoil from war and discharge their troops." --Alfred Nobel "There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance." --Socrates "It is well that war is so terrible, or we should grow too fond of it." --Robert E. Lee "Even brute beasts and wandering birds do not fall for the same traps or nets twice." --Saint Jerome "Wisdom and virtue are like the two wheels of a cart." --Japanese Proverb "He who destroys a good book kills reason itself." --John Milton "To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan, and not quite enough time." --Leonard Bernstein "What is drama but life with the dull bits cut out." --Alfred Hitchcock "There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance." --Socrates "Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power, we have guided missiles and misguided men." --Martin Luther King Jr. I know that's a lot, but there's a lot of good quotes out there! And nothing quite makes you sound more intelligent than knowing a wise sounding quote for any random situation.

I put myself at a six. Five because I've had several women who say I don't look ugly, I'm just so average that I'm not average in how average looking I am. Looks wise, I'm completely unremarkable. So five comes from that, and I bumped it up to six because I have an inflated opinion of myself.

Any Tea Drinkers? If so what is your favorite?
Archangel replied to vampireponyprince's topic in General Discussion
Oh man! Tea! I have found my people! My friend and I recently got heavily into tea over a year ago. We have an entire bookshelf filled with various teas and tea pots. We've spent way too much on the stuff. We don't cheap out. We get the really good whole leaf stuff, not the dust you see in teabags. There really is a huge difference in the quality. My favorite tea would have to be Earl Grey Lavender from Adagio Teas. It's basically a high quality version of Lady Grey tea, but with lavender petals added. Delicious! Although I've recently taken a liking to Pu Erh teas, such as one Pu Erh we have with dried orange peels and bits of chocolate mixed in. Or Jasmine Pheonix Pearls! Little ball of jasmine and green tea leaves. Or Passionfruit black tea mixed with some dried cherries! Or some a white tea called Vintage Silver tips. Nothing like a good cup of tea any time of the day! In fact, here's a little poem I stumbled across a while back about tea: "The first cup kisses away my thirst, and my loneliness is quelled by the second. The third gives insight worthy of ancient scrolls, and the fourth exiles my troubles. My body becomes lighter with the fifth, and the sixth sends word from immortals. But the seventh—oh the seventh cup— if I drink you, a wind will hurry my wings toward the sacred island." -7 Cups of Tea, by Lu Tong (795 - 835 CE) All this talk about tea has me thirsty... Now, which blend should I have? I haven't had that Twilight Sparkle blend in a while... But I do like that Octavia blend too... -
I both listen to Audiobooks and read books. So... Here we go. On the Audiobook side of things, I'm reading the Fear Saga. Specifically, I'm almost done with the first in the series: Fear the Sky by Stephen Moss. I'm also listening to Restaurant at the End of the Universe. Which is the sequel to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Which is an amazing read by Douglas Adams by the way. On the actual reading side of things, I'm currently reading a fantasy short story anthology called Diversity is Coming. I haven't gotten far through it yet, but the author gave it to me for free so I'm checking it out. I've also decided to progress a little bit more through my complete Sherlock Holmes collection. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's style of reading is very tiring for me so I need to take breaks from his stories. I'm almost half way through The Hound of the Baskervilles. Add all the pony fanfiction that I read because it's shorter, quicker, and free, and it's amazing I have time in my life for anything else!

Wow, your post matches how I've been feeling for the past year so perfectly it's kinda scary. Except for the coffee part. I don't like coffee... Tea on the other hand... Otherwise I'm just feeling rather lonely. A lot of my friends from days gone by have moved away or become so busy with school/work/significant others that they hardly talk with me anymore. I've tried to make new friends but I live in such a sparsely populated area that it's hard to meet anyone. I'm not exaggerating either, that meeting people site, meetup.com I think it was, returned zero results in a search that had a 100 mile radius. It's hard to find anyone to be friends with that has a similar interest to mine. Let alone someone my age... Man, high school spoiled me. I was one of the few who rather like high school... Anyway, that's why I've hopped back on this site after being inactive forever. Trying to socialize a little bit. Talk with someone, even if it's a stranger on the internet. At least on forums I can pretend someone's listening.

Of course! I still enjoy the show, though I've always been more interested in the fandom side of things. What people have created from this show about colorful ponies is amazing. The artwork, the sculptures, plushies, stories like Fallout: Equestria or Starlight over Detrot: A Noir Tale will hold a place in my heart for a long, long time. It's been years since I've read the Hobbit of the Lord of the Rings, yet I still consider myself a fan. I just finished re-watching Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis after years of never touching it but I never thought that I was somehow no longer a fan of Stargate. The same thing is true of ponies, it is not often I find something I really like and get into. And even if later in life other interests may take priority of ponies (A Stargate reboot perhaps?) I will always consider myself a fan. If only for the years of good memories I got all that time ago. Besides, I've always considered friendship to be a sacred thing. Like how Frodo and Sam were friends. They weren't "friends" as in the knew each other on Facebook and that's it. Like so many people consider friends now a days. They were friends in that they would go to Mordor for each other. That's the kind of friend I want, that's the kind of friend I want to be. And I love that a show that will influence kids treats friendship not as something temporary to be used and tossed after high school or a year or so, but something that should be built to last a lifetime.

Are Earth Ponies just Useless compared to Unicorns and Pegasi?
Archangel replied to Nylon's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Ah, good, I'm safe then. That does answer a few questions I used to have, like why no one ever got the idea to move the sun and deprive Celestia of power over the common pony. Also, for those who are interested, http://smile.amazon.com/My-Little-Pony-Chronicles-Princesses-ebook/dp/B00KVK3WNQ/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1451594709&sr=8-1 I did manage to find the book on Amazon. The e-book is fairly cheap too, I'll probably pick it up myself.- 36 replies

Are Earth Ponies just Useless compared to Unicorns and Pegasi?
Archangel replied to Nylon's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Whoa whoa whoa, wait what? Book? There's a BOOK!?! AND NOBODY TOLD ME!?! *Ahem* Pardon. I had no idea this was the case. I figured magic in Equestria was one of those "you can temporarily drain yourself but if you sit and rest for a while it'll come back" magics. Could you clarify for me if the magic draining is due to them raising the sun or if their magic is permanently drained for everything magical they do? Because if it's the latter I may have to rethink my entire racist belief... Does Pegasi magic count too, would that mean that Pegasi wouldn't be able to fly if they fly too much? Also is this book on Amazon for a half-decent price? I have no interest in the comics and generally regard them as bunk, but books are usually cheaper and better in my opinion. I'll accept a book as canon.- 36 replies
