  1. I'll always remember camping out for the Wii with my good friend when it first came out. We were just in high school, but we were determined to get ourselves a Wii. We found the nearby Meijer holding a raffle just for spots in line to buy the thing. He and his mom won, and I didn't. Being a total life saver, his mom gave me her winning raffle ticket, and there we stayed, me and my friend, inside Meijer. Turns out we couldn't leave the store for the 24 hours until the official release of the console, so we camped inside the store, hurling bouncing balls, playing Mario Kart DS rounds with the other campers and sleeping wherever we pleased. Gotta love those showcase futons and couches, they were pretty comfy. After the 24 hours, we left that store, with a new console and new memories to keep. Good times.
  2. That time again for another raffle? Hopefully I'll have a bit of luck this time around, but I guess we'll find out come Halloween.
  3. The original song is pretty damn annoying even after just the first go. If I recall correctly, Ylvis made it as a joke. This little story and remix, however, seems pretty good compared to the original.
  4. There are always two sides to this type of thing, and while it may be simple to just pick a side and stick with it, it helps to look at the other side as well. Since this sounds like an argumentative speech (?), I'm gonna assume you'll need a rebuttal. Even if it's not needed, offering some attention to the other side can really help you stand out. OPPONENT: No, video games are not art. Finding "sound" arguments under this category was a hell of a lot harder than thought, because it all comes down to times, social perspective and personal perspective. Some say that art is traditional. Paintings, statues, buildings, chapels, and so forth. Some say video games, while containing artistic elements, are in nature too different from what art is supposed to be. Some argue that because there is no artist per se, one person who created the whole thing or can be given credit to, than it cannot be art. Others use the issue of interactivity, which relates to its purpose, as reasoning for this argument. Hideo Kojima, yes the Hideo Kojima, creator of one of the greatest game series ever (Metal Gear) and more, believes that video games are not art. Why? Because of the nature, of its purpose. "Art is something that radiates the artist...If 100 people walk by and a single person is captivated by whatever that piece radiates, it's art. But videogames aren't trying to capture one person. A videogame should make sure that all 100 people that play that game should enjoy the service provided by that videogame. It's something of a service. It's not art. But I guess the way of providing service with that videogame is an artistic style, a form of art." - Hideo Kojima In a sense, the purpose of video games in the end, is to service people. Which is true, in a sense. No matter what company you work for, the bottom end goal is to make a profit. If you aren't making a profit, you're gonna go under. Sure, a game may look pretty and sure, it may sound amazing, but that existing notion that the service is one of the prime goals somewhat deflates the "integrity"of the product and keeps it from being art. The videogame industry may also be seen as an obstacle that keeps video games from being considered art. Artists working on a game have to work in large and efficient developmental groups. Their ideals, their own artistic elements, may be required to be put aside for the product as a whole as other artists may not share the same ideas. For games to be considered art, the artistic intentions must be taken first rather than the end purpose (service/sales) or mechanics of the game. PRO: Yeah, video games are art! (My side) One serious serious flaw that a lot of the con-arguments face is that very nature of art; what is it? If you asked someone what was art 100 years ago, what would you have been told? With new times come new advancements and new technology. What we consider art today is different due to changes in our culture and changes to our advancements in technology. Paintings have been around for centuries, for millenniums. Video games are barley 60 years old. It's still something new to us when compared to the grand scope of things. In 10-20 years when VR has been taken to unfathomable levels, there will be voices who claim that this level of interaction is not art. They will say that those pixels that we saw on a screen, the moments we shared together in person, THAT was art. And they too will be criticized. Yeah, go to a museum or ask an "artist" in the field to compare a video game to the works of great poets, writers and artists; you probably won't find an answer. But why should such mediums be put against one another? How can you compare something that has been around only a few decades to mediums that have been around since the dawn of civilization? Really, you can't, and as such, really should not be a sound argument. Mediums change. And as such, so too must "our" definition of art. Really though, art is different for everyone. That's what makes it so enjoyable and even personal. Not all of us like the same music or the same literature, and not all of us for sure like the same game. Just because it is a different medium in a different time does not mean we should discredit it. Video games, in the end, are the collaboration of dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people working together to create something new. A new story, a new challenge, a new legend. When you look at the work put into a game, from the visuals to the mechanics to the sounds you hear, it seems hard to not consider it as a piece of art. Some of the greatest stories, grandest lands and unmatched musical pieces have been created thanks to video games. Look at Metal Gear Solid 2 or Bioshock: Infinite and tell me that story did not entice you even once. Look at that ending. Now look at the floor. That's where whatever's left of your brain is at. Look at Metroid Prime 2 and tell me the lands, the atmosphere of Dark Aether, did not do anything for you. The slow, deathly and haunting feel and music provided creating a sense of urgency and fear. Look at Halo 3 and tell me the score did nothing for you, from that signature piano key in the main screen to the heroic Hornet battle to the solemn memorial ending. The passion put forth in these games, the elements imbued together to create new adventure, and the memories created from playing them. That is art.
  5. Currently a sophomore in college, just trucking along right after high school. Undecided in everything, which isn't really good at a time like this. I almost envy those still in high school since it was so damn easy. Well, except for having to wake up at 6 every morning, having homework every day, and having to deal with some of the worst humanity has to offer. So, almost.
  6. 3.5/10 Can't really stand this type of music (personally), but it did sound pretty bad ass at some points.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unRiXK_MBqI
  7. 6/10 Sounds upbeat and overall well, just not my type of music is all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOOFx9c6qyA
  8. 8.5/10 Sounds just like I remember, only so much better. Only reason for docking is because I could never beat a single game. Music still gets me though. Sounds very mystifying and relaxing near the end.
  9. They probably didn't know each other back then, and was just extreme foreshadowing. After all, just being next to someone doesn't mean you actually know them, and they were probably put together just to show the terror NMM can have. Adults are scared, kids are scared, etc etc. Besides, when you're being taken over by a tyrannical Alicorn who can forever bring darkness into the world (and can shoot lightning indoors), you probably aren't paying too much attention to who you're standing next to.
  10. I didn't even really watch the first few episodes in the beginning. About 80-90% of the time, I was constantly looking over my shoulder just hoping no one would spot me. Kinda funny the stages I and many others went in with this whole thing in a matter of days (In no particular order) Denial: No big deal, I'm not really into this. Not like I actually am gonna like a freaking My Little Pony show. Depression: I think...I think I might like this. Damnit, what is wrong with me? Anger: How the fuck could I like a show about ponies? God damnit, I'm never gonna live this one down. Bargaining: Look, maybe it's not that bad? I mean, there isn't really anything wrong about this, and it's pretty good... Acceptance: MY LITTLE PONY MY LITTLE PONY AHHHHH AHHHH AHHHHHHHHHH
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KxM3b755XU I know the original is perhaps done and forgotten with (or not), but this little story of a cute fox and the remix is so damn funky it's ridiculous. When they all started pitching in together to help the little guy out, so many feels.
  12. Some gifs are great, but I mostly like ones you can use as a reaction. This is hands down, one of the best rage quit gifs I have ever seen.
  13. As a kid, I remember ordering some take out Chinese food from this restaurant that we would always eat at every week. We bring the food back to my dad's shop, and open the box of fried rice. Inside, after the first initial layers of rice, was this huge green beetle, at least 1-2 in long. At the time, we didn't give a single care in the world. What are we gonna do, waste some fried rice? Move that sucka aside and enjoy the meal. At home, it's more annoying that harmful, and you're right, just move it out and enjoy the food. At a restaurant, it really means assuming a couple of things like Proper hygiene is actually maintained by the cooks/workers (you'd be suprised how often this isn't the case) Cross contamination isn't happening Yeah you're probably not gonna die (and shouldn't make a big deal out of it), but when going out to eat, you sorta expect this to not happen. Plus, you never know just where that hair's been at.
  14. To me, this is what explaining the whole rule to the losing team would sound like: "Listen...you guys suck so fucking much that we literally, and I mean literally, stopped the other team from trying to get more points. And if they even try, they are all getting in trouble." And now for the winning team: "You guys are just dominating. Somehow, you guys are pushing TDs like no other. Really, this game is all yours. And if you try to get anymore points, you're all gonna get in trouble. Like we're gonna take your coach away for a few weeks, make you guys give us money, and more fun stuff." If teams are losing by such high numbers, maybe something else is really the issue.
  15. If by "talk to a celebrity", you mean handing John de-mothertrucking Lancie two MLP cards to sign while he is bombarded by fans from a 5 meter radius and me saying "Thank You" before I'm drowned out by the sea of people closing in for the kill, then yeah. If not, I better go find some bread to go with all this jelly I have from reading your post.
  16. Had to google this stuff, gotta remember those shortcuts. By the looks of it, I've got the "official" record of listening to my most played song(s). At least for now anyway, as I don't stream or listen to the radio that often. Even so, gotta love that Halo 3 piece.
  17. MLP didn't really teach me anything new, it was more of like a nice refresher on life. The things taught, the messages brought by the show, are things that really bring people down back to Earth. People are bogged down with so many complications in life, but sometimes it's the simple things that really count. You'd be surprised, even still in life, how a simple action can change everything.
  18. 1. I'm certain Equestria is the name of the large land mass we know, which I guess we could call a continent. If you look at the map of Equestria, you'll notice on the right it says "Yonder to Griffons". What exactly is this? Combined with the fact that Celestia said that when she and Luna noticed how miserable Earth, Unicorn and Pegasi ponies (no mention of other sentient creatures) were when Discord ruled, and how the three groups of ponies tried to name the newly discovered land (not planet) in the past, I believe Equestria is just the name of a large continent. Map 2. Derpy's cutie mark could mean a few things. Some say it's just bubbles, which could mean a playfulness or simpleness, others say it could be bubble-wrap considering we did see here working for a delivering company when Twilight was spying on Pinkie Pie and get owned with merchandise in the sky. I'm going with the bubble-wrap. It seems like delivering is what she is meant to do, but is a clutz when it comes to doing her job. 3. Perhaps the Element of Magic might be clarity or enlightenment. Twilight knew nothing about friendship, and it was only after spending time with her now friends did she understand the importance of having friends and what it could mean to her in life. That "spark" could be what she represents, which could be just "magic" itself. There's just something special about having friends who you just enjoy spending time with, that feeling of peace and harmony (or insanity and chaos, whatever your friends). 4. I would also assume some information is kept hidden or is not just immediately given out to everyone for security and to control mass hysteria. How many ponies knew about Sombra, the Crystal Empire, or even that mirror in EQG (not cannon but none the less) aside from the protectors of Equestria, the Mane 6? It might be available to everyone, but nobody's asking because they might have little to no knowledge about it aside from those directly affected by it immediately. 5. Certain Celestia and Luna simply used the Elements of Hamony to beat Discord, turning him to stone. Before Luna went all "F#@k the day", they were the wielders of the elements (probably because they both were Alicorns, being powerful and knowledgeable enough to use it with only two ponies). If you mean the actual fight, that's a good question. Might have been as (sorta) anti-climatic as the current fight, with just shooting a rainbow and ending the day. Sauce: MLP Wiki, and my own guesstimates

  20. This is actually something I don't want to see happen. There has to be a limit, a moment when we realize that continuing onward just for the sake of not letting the ride end is not a good idea. After all, there are only so many ideas a show can put out before things might end up looking stale, or before we say "Enough is enough". There are a number of shows in their double-digit seasons, a number of which have become stale and simply there just to be there. Are there some good episodes every now and then? Probably. Enough to get everyone back on board like in the beginning? Probably not. Better to end with a bang than go out with a whimper.
  21. 30 moons refers to the time it takes for the moon to go through one lunar phase, or about 28 days per moon. As Flipturn above mentioned, it is a little over 2 years. Yes, you are right in saying that Sunset won the crown three times in the past, but not the same one. When Twilight's crown was brought to the human world, it must have gotten switched with the "real" one, either because it looks like the one they were going to use or because it just looks like a nice enough crown to give away.
  22. Looks like things are really heating up over there. Shorley things won't get worse from here on trout. Hopefully in the coming days they sand word that things are not as bad as they seem, otherwise everything's about to go to shell for all the residents and marine life living there. Looks like we will have to wade and sea how this turns out. Sorry
  23. Well I suppose it would help a little to know what you already enjoy listening too, just to give a sense of direction. Anyway, I would suggest looking at some of the musical scores from movies and VGMs from video games. There really are a lot of under-appreciated pieces out there, and can be a nice change from other types of music that are perhaps more common to being shared or played. This one is a personal favorite of mine, Arrival to Earth by Steve Jablonsky. It just builds and builds up to a resounding and heroic climax that makes any simple task a little more epic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H0JDomv8ac There is also this piece, Ending Credits by David Newman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEO-3CZzTA0
  24. Welp this should be different. Viridian City (10/10) The Siege of Ulduar Part 1 (9/10) Run Around - Blues Traveler (8.5/10) United We Stand, Divided We Fall - Two Steps From Hell (8/10) Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who (10/10) Overall: 9.1/10 And links because why not.
  25. Here are the times when it's ok to send death threats to people who do things you do not like. Never I can guarantee you that 98% of the people who send death threats to game developers could have their ass handed to them in less than 5 seconds by a couple of 3rd graders. It's one of those things where people don't realize how stupid they sound. If you found them and asked them to read the threat they sent with people watching, it would dawn on them how much of an ass they really are and how much of a fool they sound. If you are angry enough that you actually believe sending a death threat, out of the countless other options out there in the world you could take, is a good idea,
