  1. What's weird is that indeed you are absolutely right that they reassured friendship is most important, however if they really wanted to show that, have Twilight give up the crown. That sacrifice would have been a beautiful thing and would have shown Celestia how much more of a priority friendship is over a (unexplained) royal title. I REALLY hope so. The writers promised answers for this premiere, and they were not delivered. Amazing writers, but man they got to write out of a big hole that Hasbro's marketing campaign demanded. Like I said, will continue to watch, but this episode left a bad taste in my mouth.
  2. Very in depth analysis. Nice. What may have added to my bleak viewing of the episode in the first place was the new intro. Snips and Snails? Really. Small details like that make whoever created the new intro (at least the new "group shot") seem out of touch with who these ponies are. I am trying to figure out what is truly bugging me about it too. One thing was that the dialogue had the word "princess" every 30 seconds. Another thing was how Twilight has wings but teleports anyways, showing how stupid the unnecessary appendages are. Another thing was the writing refuses to explain what Twilight REALLY is the princess of? Not the sun. Not the moon. What is it? Is she just "vice-princess" of Equestria? If so, that explanation would have been good enough for me. "Royal Duties?" What are they? Because of this, I live for the other Mane Six episodes, and am counting the days to Pinkie's episode. That's what morsel I can at least walk away with in Season 4. As Season 3 progressed, I liked Twilight more and more. Once this Alicorn business happened, I actually feel bad for her. I think she is thinking the same thing as me "Now that she's princess, what is she supposed to do?" Upper Management (aka Luna and Celestia) still haven't explained that. THAT bugs me most of all. In the meantime, it seems like a waste of magic and wings.
  3. Snips and Snails...they are amazing friends to the Mane Six. They totally deserve being in the new intro... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRVUOGUmxJI
  4. Oh believe me I will continue to watch and all. Where is the line drawn in the sand though? When is it "fair" to make a judgement? I guess that if this season was personified, they made a bad first impression.
  5. My biggest concern right now is actually the direction of the show itself. As you can tell I am not a fan of Alicorn Twilight. What is odd is that I liked Equestria Girls. I think the reason why I disliked Magical Mystery Cure, liked Equestria Girls, and disliked this episode is one premise: The Focus. To me, the focus of the show (and even a lot in Equestria Girls) was friendship, particularly of all the Mane Six. With Magical Mystery Cure and Princess Twilight Sparkle the focus is on Twilight, and specifically her being a princess. I am a fan of this show because I enjoy entertainment focusing on group dynamics, not one particular individual. With this new focus on princess-hood, I feel the writing is on the verge of going backwards, meaning it is now starting to appease the classic "original target audience" as opposed to us bronies. Maybe I was delusional in thinking the writers were aiming for us bronies. Either way, I feel like this is a slow goodbye, like that us bronies who liked the [now] original focus and aspects of the show overstayed our welcome. After seeing the premiere, I feel pretty bummed as a fan right now, with only some hope for the next episode. I am happy that some bronies are pleased. I have a feeling though I am not alone in this sentiment.
  6. The new intro...A SLAP IN THE FACE. If the show insists on having Twilight as an Alicorn at least give us certain fans that are not cool with it a nice memory of seasons past. As for the episode, Discord was the real strong point. Otherwise, it was quite scripted and severely underwhelming. The Tree of Harmony story arch was interesting, yet not enough to save the episode. "You should go back." Highly contrived. I know Applejack is not the most liked pony, but I think it was out of character for her to say such a thing. B***S***. As a Pinkie fan, it seems with the premieres the writers like to make her look ,frankly, completely retarded. Of course she is random and spontaneous, but she is not an imbecile. I have high hopes for the following episodes, however this was a rocky start in my opinion. 2/5 for Princess Twilight Sparkle
  7. Indeed. You see that's just it though, you would think they were doing it back in WWII, but after some fairly in depth research it all points to Vietnam as the beginning. A couple of factors that point to this [other than the fact of not being able to pull up an authentic period photo of soldiers doing this practice] are the generally stricter uniform regulations of WWII and the differences in GI culture between WWII and Vietnam (i.e. WWII had Kilroy, Vietnam had death cards). What may have caused some people to think the practice dated back to Marines in WWII was possibly the video game Call of Duty: World at War which uses death cards as part of the gameplay. This aspect really though is simply artistic license.
  8. That is a dream that should be made reality. If there is a position to fill, I would be thrilled to oblige. I have an account (http://www.youtube.com/user/Soundwave85) and on occasion upload random things, if that is of any consequence. I could do a brony food and drink segment if you want that. (Like making Cherry Chimichangas) Same here.
  9. It makes sense that she won in hindsight. The little girls like her because she is so feminine and bronies like her for not only the same reason, but for her comedic shyness, amazing singing, and a whole list of others. By the way, where can I find a recording of the marathon broadcast? I want to see if I made the cut from Comic Con.
  10. Thanks for posting pics. They did a very nice job on Spitfire's goggles. As for QC issues, I totally understand about the lack of perfection with these. All things considered I think you picked a good pair. It just seems that with the Pinkie's I came across they were very blatant issues, such as the cutie mark's strings overlapping the balloons (could be the delicate nature of the decal itself) and especially her eyes having too noticeable of scratches on her eyes. I don't know what your deciding factor is, but imo the eyes on these are the most important, as they are the first thing you see.
  11. Congratulations! Had a happy ending after all. Now your Lyra won't be without her bff. So how is the QC on those two? By the way could you post the Toys R Us SKU from your receipt on here for us? Makes things easier to call ahead than waste gas trying to find a store that has them. Had to return both the Pinkies I bought, plus went through like 35 more, and STILL haven't found an acceptable one. Might have to wait a little for production to get better before I buy my favorite pony. She seems to be the most maltreated pony of Funko's line, which is a real shame.
  12. Wow very cool about the super early release. Very moronic that they abide by some release date that frankly has no real standing. I have not checked out my local stores yet but apparently you weren't the only one to run into these. As for Pinkie and Lyra, GREAT molds having them in hand. The QC as with past releases is something that is to be desired though. I went through more than 10 of each one to pick the most decent one. I may pick up a second pinkie though, because while her window display side is quite perfect, her in-box-non-visible eye has small scratching on her pupil. Minor but her being my favorite pony I strive for excellence. As for Lyra the one I picked is great all the way around. Happy hunting to all! As for advice for your selection, watch the eyes, Lyra's painted mane and tail, and Pinkie's cutie mark's balloon strings: more than half of the ones I went through had misaligned balloon strings. That is all!
  13. I would like to be all cool and say some local obscure "Mom and Pop" pizza place but truth be told Papa Johns is the tastiest pizza to me. It depends on preference order to order but thin crust seems to be what I order most, with varying meats (pepperoni is the constant in this equation ) Yay friendship pizza agreement! I think what makes their pizza so good is their distinctive oven and preparation:
  14. I understand what you're saying about her moments that seriously lack generosity. However, I don't see anything to fix. It would be a boring show if the characters were constantly the epitome of their element. Some of my favorite episodes are when they crack or stray away from their element (i.e. Pinkie in Party of One and Twilight in Lesson Zero). I feel this scene from Full Metal Jacket explains this phenomenon. "The Duality of Man" concept is something that ever since I saw this movie has been part of my life outlook. Obviously there are varying instances of when Rarity is not very generous to say the least, one in particular being how she in Just For Sidekicks gave Spike the smallest gem out of all the mane six to watch Opal.
  15. Do you think this man is overrated? Though Thomas Jefferson was not the only founder of something, or even the constant purveyor of it (The United States) he is still credited as a founder and should be respected as such. Maybe without him the rest of the founders could have accomplished the same thing, yet that will be never known for certain. So yeah, even though Lauren let go of the reigns with the end of season one after she created the show, she deserves some form of gratitude of not only the fans of this great show, but also the creative leaders that follow in her footsteps.
  16. What was made was an Alicorn Twilight, and what was born was controversy. To answer your question, Celestia made [or in your words gifted] Twilight into an Alicorn because she.....passed the test? This whole thread is filled with interpretations. Personally, it was done not for sake of story but rather Hasbro's new toy campaign. Obviously I don't dislike them for it, it's their business. I just hope they change it back with season 4, because really the concept in terms of the show has too many loose ends.
  17. I agree about how simple and therefore generic the outfit is. What is intriguing and perhaps somewhat adds to the possibility of the reference is that the animators didn't just use her previous jumpsuit from It's About Time: There must have been something more to it. Snake Eyes is one of the top Joes, so don't think they would ditch him. However agreed Pinkie would make a great addition! If she's an Autobot, she might as well be a Joe too:
  18. Does anyone else think that Pinkie Spy (Pinkie Pie) looked like the first version of Snake Eyes from the 80's comics and toys? Obviously not spot on by any stretch, yet they are quite similar. The sleeves are the same, with both having goggles. The main reason I made the connection is that they are both of Hasbro. What do you guys think?
  19. I wish I could contribute but GTA isn't a strong point for the 'ol database.
  20. I'd hit you with an album that was actually good
  21. I sold my 360 a couple years ago so I am rusty now. TPAM knows who Giorgio Moroder without a Google search.
  22. 9/10 It is one of my new favorite albums. I like Giorgio by Moroder the best though.
  23. No, just chuckles. TPAM found something they have been looking for for years!
