I say "Tah-vee" The "a" in her nickname is pronounced "ah", like the sound the doctor wants you to make when you open your mouth.

Yeahh, I've always said it "Tah-vee" because it's "Oc-tah-vee-uh" not "Oc-tay-vee-uh" :D

Well, as they always say, "Tomato Tomahto...

Thats, like, so unfancy, man.

I always use her full name. German pronunciation because im used to that. How does one probounce "Octavia" in English anyway? Okktäääifeea?

I always thought it was "Tay-vee" because it made more sense compared to her actual name, it just felt more natural to say Tay-vee

Okktäääifeea?

What in the name of fabulosity is that

(Also, yes, I'm pretty sure that's how we pronounce it.)

To answer your question in 'murican terms, though, English speakers tend to pronounce it either "Okk-Tah-Vee-Uh" or "Okk-Tay-Vee-Uh" - basically, either OcTAHvia, or OcTAYvia -both are spelled the same, though, which is just "Octavia" :D

If that makes any sense :derp: The correct pronunciation is "OcTAHvia," though, hence, why I call her Tah-vee :D

...ok then, but I'm sticking with "okk-Tay-vee-ah"

And that's how it's pronounced in the song "I am Octavia"

But it's pronounced "tah-vee" here, that's what had me confused in the first place

Huh.

Is that fanon or did that happen in the comics or something like that? :o

German is kinda like: Okk-taaah-vee-ah... I'll just stick to that... :muffins:

I find your anglo-saxon ways to be confusing... Where does that -Uh come from... :muffins:

I'm...not sure, I've heard it around, but I've not read the official comics, so I have only seen it used in fanon

"Uh" is pretty much the same as a long "A" sound :D Basically, it's an A and it sounds like an A, but you spell it "uh" when using it as a pronunciation because that's how it literally sounds.

It sounds like an A still, but that's how you'd spell it :D

So....you're saying it depends how you pronounce it?

Yep, I guess so.

Personally, I pronounce it "tah-vee"

I've always pronounced Octavia's name "Ok-tay-vee-uh".

I think that's mainly because I had watched a few short documentaries and things on the author Octavia Butler before I ever saw MLP, and her name was always pronounced with a "tay" sound, so when I saw the name Octavia in MLP, that pronunciation is what I associated her name with.

Although I rarely ever talk about Octavia and don't even really like her, I pronounce it Tay-vee, the same way I would pronounce her name.

And just a side note, Okk-tay-vee-uh is the correct american/english pronunciation. Okk-tah-vee-uh is the correct and original Italian pronunciation.
