Why Are Bronies Disliked?

Say to them if they call the fandom is gay. Say to them that they are also insulting Notch, Drake Bell and Lady Gaga. But, we are picked cause it is something new, very new to society. I mean, the show is around 2 years old, but the fandom has gone huge reasently. Also, the idea is absurd to them. Sit them down (unless it isn't someone you know) and have them watch either S2 Ep1 and 2, Party of One, or Lesson Zero. I prefer S2 Ep 1 and 2 because the CMC fighting knocks off the stereotype girly. That is another reason why people insult the show. They think it is girly, and filled with sparkles and Rainbow colored ponies. The show seems to be an easy target. I am actually surprised how people take the concept of people liking the show, and how there is a big community. They said they might take a shot at the show, so, that is good. I mean, I see a bit of hate, but there is a lot of acceptance. As the community is growing, more people are liking it.

Everyone seems to hate bronies. I, for one, see no reason why bronies shouldn't be treated like everyone else. But other people, it seems, hate them with a passion.

Why? When faced with this question, haters are forced to come up with a rational argument as to why bronies are an embarrassment to society. The most common answer is "the show is gay."

A while ago, my friend told me he is a brony. This person without doubt is one of the best people I've ever met. He's clever, funny and interesting to talk to, and really, if you met him you would have no idea he was a brony until he told you.

Some people, if they knew, would probably launch straight into the usual interrogation:

"Are you gay?"

"How do you watch that?"

"That show is for three year old girls."

I didn't. As far as I know, he isn't autistic, or stupid, or weird, all I view him as is an extremely kind and intelligent person who likes watching a specific TV show.

So what if My Little Pony is a crazy kid-friendly cartoon featuring colourful talking ponies with personalities on par with teenage girls? If people like watching it, then so be it. It carries a very important message: Learning about friendship.

People who think they know what bronies are really like will often say that they talk nonstop about ponies, will try to convert you all the time, and shove pony related stuff down your throat all day. They don't. A lot of bronies don't tell many people for fear of being discriminated or teased. I think all bronies should be able to tell people and be proud of it without being viewed differently.

WE ARE DIFFERENT, BUT WE ARE NOT ALONE.

Love BronyDefender

We need a bronies revolution!

not to get a lot of bronies!

not to watch more seasons!

to have our right no to be criticized!

i was afraid when i became a brony, but not for long because i had a thought in my mind that bronies and haters (specially haters) should know (NO ONE SHALL FORBID ME TO WATCH MLP, BECAUSE I HAVE A RIGHT TO WATCH IT!)

when i tell haters i'm a brony

What do they listen: i like visiting gay-porn sites!

What i really say: i like watching cartoon with ponies!

so don't be afraid guys!

MAN UP! and say in their faces...

YEAH I'M A BRONY! SOMETHING WRONG ABOUT THAT YOU A**HOLE?!?!?

they will be piss of crying! like little brat babies!

My little pony is changing the concept of masculinity,

some people think ''men'' are supposed to like manly stuff, and they don't realize that

MLP is friendship, is love, is what we really need in society,

we need good role models.

you are right about that!

these kind of people need a big lesson!

actually we also need to be more unite! more members!

to hack sites that insults us "for example"

MESSAGE TO ALL BRONIES WHO DID NOT JOIN YET!

JOIN! YOU ALL MUST JOIN TO BE MORE MEMBERS SO WE CAN PROVE TO THEM THEY ARE THE LEAST!

WE DONT WANT TO BRONIFY THEM! WE WANT THEM TO RESPECT US!

I KNOW SOME PEOPLE WHO HATES MLP BUT DOESN"T HATE THE FAN BASE!

so we sould be more united!

be more independent!

what about we also protest in all capitals of the world!

"Washington D.C, Paris, London, Madrid, Moscow, Ottawa, Roma, Tokyo, Seoul, Cairo, Tunisia, ...etc"

all i mean we need bronies protest against criticizing! hating!

LOVE AND TOLERANCE AROUND THE EARTH!

Why do people hate anything?

We're living in a society were if we don't follow the modern populations ways then we're wrong.

We forced to think that we can't have our own opinions about things, or we can't like something because it's not 'normal'.

The worst part is that the people who say these things aren't much different from us. They once thought they could have their own opinion about things but society told them not to. Like for example, I have a friend online who is actually gay and will not watch MLP because he says  "it is a stereotypical show for gay people and I will not follow the crowd". So he WILL NOT watch the show because society says it's a show for gay people and he doesn't want to do what society says... argh!  :(

He's saying that some Bronies go too far with the idea of changing how a man should behave, to the point that it's annoying.

Also guys have been watching shows that are "for little girls" for eons now.

There are probably two big reasons:

The first being society. A society where masculine traits are still considered superior. It's plain to see to anybody that watches. A girl cross-dressing will meet with much less resistance than a guy wearing a dress (although resistance is not non-existent for girls. Trust me). So, guys (well, obviously not everybody that identifies as a "Brony" is a male - I don't identify as a "Brony" to begin with, but I know that's not true for many girls that watch the show - but I don't think that Faux News notices this, nor do many of the haters) watching a show aimed at little girls will cause a lot of controversy. Guys are not supposed to like anything "girly". Ever. And then on top of this you have many "Bronies" flaunting the fact that they like the show, and being obvious about it. They can't stand it. To them, it's a great threat to their patriarchal society. Yes, it has negative effects on men, too.

"Bronies", keep on fighting the power.

For those saying that guys have always liked girl's shows. Well, yes, probably. But can you honestly say that the male fandom's for those shows were ever anywhere near as prominent (by which I mean, visible to a lot of people) as this one?

Second is, well, I have to say it. "Bronies" have gone a bit over the top. I just posted in a topic asking how many people we have converted to "Bronydom". I know we like to have friends that share our interests, but many have gone far too crazy. A lot of people just aren't going to like the show, and when they resist your requests to watch it, it isn't always a case of them just denying watching a show they will love if they just give it a chance. Respect their right to not want to watch it. I think that the fact that this isn't the way "Bronies" oftentime go about things (just look at the word usage of "convert".... What is this a religion?), just gets on people's nerves.

Society has always had a line to separate what is masculine and what is feminine and what each should behave like. We are taught from the moment we are born what our gender roles are. Baby girls wear pink, baby boys blue. Girls get baby dolls that they need to care for or dolls to play house with; boys get action figures to fight or maybe footballs and the like. It's called gender socialization (my personal favorite topic in sociology so far).

The point is, a show filled with ponies whose theme is love and friendship just doesn't fit the male gender role and there are people who just can't accept/understand the idea of males liking it. I guess some hate it because "it just ain't right".

To be honest even I was surprised at bronies, not that I had anything against them, it was just... unusual. But I'm pretty open minded so I gave it a try one day and here we are.

It's because of how society tends to depend on stereotypes and prejudice of "outsiders" who don't follow the behavior of what the general society tends to think what is right. We're just victims of this, people tend to be closed minded of what "Strange" groups are really about, some people's hate might be fueled from outside sources like Media and religion, which of all thinks they always had the definition of "Right" in society.

Being a Bisexual Brony from Nagasaki wasn't really a good thing to have round here and there.

Well saying that the show is gay is probably the most pointless thing ever. It often comes in package with the show being for 6 year old girls. That must mean 6 year old girls are gay... Oh Celestia... The rational arguments...

hmmm good do with toning that down a bit, because... well i am gay and the way you said that makes it seem like its a bad thing its just a word and people who think of it as an insult are borderline homophobic.

also there is a very thin lime between being respectable and understanding, and being the very same as the haters.

Why people hate us? Easy.

BECAUSE WE'RE DIFFERENT.

People will find any excuse to make fun of someone for being different. It makes no sense.

EDIT: After being a brony for a while I also notice some people hate us because sometimes we shove it up their asses and when they complain we go "you're just a hater".

I've seen this so many times...

What I said before is true, and what I'm saying now is true as well.

this ones easy

why do people hate bronies? because they can never be free in the same ways we are. they cant get past their own insecurities enough to like something just because they enjoy it, and proudly express that love. they hate us because we discovered unlimited freedom and they know they will never be able to live that openly.

im sure theres alot of people who openly hate on us, but then go home and watch MLP as well, while brushing their Applejack figure and bobbing their heads to the theme song.

Its because of the fact people don't understand the true meaning of masculinity. As long as you still like guns and explosions etc. your a man it doesn't matter if you like ponies too.

Also the word gay seems to have lost its original meaning nowadays it's used mainly as an insult but it really means to either be happy or be attracted to the same sex (even though the main cast are female so even then it doesn't make much sense). Well I never understood how bronies are gay anyway. Girls can like boy oriented stuff but it can't be vice versa? That sounds fair.... In short i think society just doesn't like to see change.

Why people hate bronies? Why people hate groups with different ideas and ideologies? Why people hate people with different skin color? Why people hate people with different cultures? Why people hate people with different sexual orientation?  ...

People just hate people. No need for rational reasoning. Some people simply harbor hatred towards anything different than they are. Some because of fear, insecurities, because that's what they were taught or simply because of pure ignorance.

People will have a reason to hate anybody. But, for why they hate us bronies. It's because, they find us just to be different and our society just wants to hate us for no specific reason. I find it to be very dumb, we never did anything to them we watch just 1 show about Friendship and Magic then they start making fun of us by calling us gay. What has our society become?

People hate because they have been conditioned to hate and fear what is different or what they don't understand. Yes teenagers and adults especially adult men liking cartoon ponies seems a tad unusual but this show has taught me that it is only considered unusual because society has taught us that it is unusual and something that is unusual dosen't always necessarily mean that it is bad.

In all honesty, I say it's just the lack of knowledge/understanding of what a Brony really is however, in most cases, it's the blatant disregard for even wanting to know.

Some haters just want to find an excuse to hate for whatever ungodly reason :/

I find it quite disturbing when I see/hear stories of people whose parents mock their kids for watching a show that has morals.

I find it even more disturbing when parents tell their kids to "be themselves" and "don't let other people shape who you are" yet when ponies get mentioned their message takes a 360 and it's no longer "be yourself" as much as it's now "do you see other people watching that?"

at that point, they're just being stupid... no further explanation.

Yes, I do agree that Bronies should be treated equally however, I think it's going to take some kind of miracle for that to happen. Unless haters are willing to put their macho crap aside and start looking into these things, I really don't see this happening anytime soon and it saddens me to no end :(

REMEMBER THIS!!!

Society, is basically filled with those type of ppl.

Those type of ppl are just:

  1. Hipocrites
  2. Stereotypes
  3. Narrow-minded people
  4. Jealous people
  5. Posers
  6. Attention Seekers
  7. People that just wanna show off how "bad ***" they are

Dont have any friend thats any of those above. (excluding 4)

I guess I can say I'm lucky I live in a town where ppl dont care about what you like, your sexuality, your race, etc.,

So yea, when I had to admit that I liked mlp to my friends. They didnt care, not even my cousin did. So I can consider myself "lucky" but not for long if society worsens up in my area and around the world
