Anyone got any opinions on the new Xibalba album?

It's produced a bit better than their other releases, and the chunk is still real.

Went to the Machine Head show a few nights ago. Freakin epic. Gto to attend a VIP meet & greet and met all the guys in person. Arrived early and me and half dozen others got to listen in on their soundcheck. Bunch of really cool dudes. But that venue was tiny. Only 400 capacity. Although I did get the best spot in the house: Against the barricade, right within spitting distance of frontman Robb Flynn, literally.  Ribs & neck are still a little sore, but it was worth it to hear two and half hours of their set.

Even dropped a pretty penny on a limited edition epiphone flying V of theirs. Got some major props from all the fans at the merch table for doing so. Members of their crew even took it backstage for Robb, Jared, Phil & Dave to sign! House security even escorted me and my prize out to my car.

I am somewhere in this picture among my fellow concert goers, The Headcases of Wisconsin!

Badass. Sounds like a venue similar to when I saw ReVamp/Sabaton/Iced Earth, although there's no way the crowd in the place I went to (Club Red in Tempe, AZ. They're since moved to a larger building) held a crowd of even 400. I'll be going to another similar venue (Joe's Grotto in Phoenix) to see Rainbowdragoneyes/The Dread Crew Of Oddwood/Alestorm, plus 3 other local bands on Saturday. I'll be sure to get pics/vids and post 'em. :3

It's time for a long overdue re-updated OP (as of 9/29/13). Spoiler tag it up if you want to check it out.

Welcome to the Metal Thread, kid.

Good job, you've found the best damn thread on MLP Forums. Lemme tell you how it works.

Basically, just post some heavy tunes. Let's talk about it! What's drawing you to this band? The tone, the lyrics? The ridiculous speed?

If one of us (or anyone else) makes a joke about what you've posted, don't take it too seriously. It's all in good fun.

Due to the often graphic nature of Metal and other heavy music, the rules are a bit less stringent around here in terms of swearing. The mods, being solid dudes, trust us to police ourselves for the most part. Do not, however, let yourself think you can do whatever you want with your posts. The last thing we want is our favorite thread shut down.

Next, and I'm going to make this one big for emphasis...

YOU DON'T HAVE TO ASK TO POST SOMETHING.

Seriously. If you think it's heavy, put it in here. The worst that'll happen is we'll chuckle and give other suggestions. No one is going to talk shit that you aren't "metal" or anything like that. Post your thing and tell us why you like it. That's the point.

Once in a while, you'll see us post a bunch of non metal. It breaks up the monotony and it's pretty random and semi-annual. Watch out for that.

Last thing, have a good fucking time in here! Talk to us! Learn about new bands! Plan an orgy! Long as you have a good time, we'll all be cool.

Metal on, new kid. Welcome to the thread.

Updated topic title to be more universal :)

So, this is a thread about guitar strings? Naa. Just breaking a chair leg and beating some roadie with it.

But seriously, cool idea of a thread! I'll add my lil' bit to the long list; Chimaira - On Broken Glass. Hell'va song.

I also got to see that same line up at my local venue, along with local openers Conniption, who did pretty damn well and would fit right in on the tour. It's safe to say that based off of crowd reaction and excitement that Sabaton totally stole the show. Even the band was surprised at how much fanfare they were getting from us. Frontman Joakim Broden even gave two kids up front his glasses & his wristbands in exchange for them not telling their parents that he swore during the show.

Pretty hard not to gain favor when you open your set with this:

But I bet you already knew that.

Yeah, but my show was kinda even on the reaction between Sabaton and Iced Earth. Also, here's a video someone took near the end of Sabaton's set.

The place was small enough that ReVamp and Sabaton actually had to share the main pieces of the drumkit, lol. Also, I got one of Hans Van Dahl's sticks (I think I've posted this pic before, but eh. Whatever). The top-right of the pic is the stage.

Another thing to note, is that this show is literally the reason I'm a fan of the band. >.< I had never bothered to listen to them beforehand.

Ballin. I caught a drum stick once. During Emmure's set on the Trespass America festival. splintered w/ a crack running through it, but that ups the value.

That venue may be smaller but that stage is definitely bigger than the one at the MH show. You could only fit one drum kit on that stage and have just enough room for Rob & Co.

Yeah that's kinda how I was w/ Sabaton. I heard them before but wasn't much into their stuff (probably because when it was played over the car stereo, my bro and his friend wouldn't stop talking over it. He was the major Sabaton fan in the house originally). Then all three of us saw them live that day and we both became committed. I'll be going to see them again w/ my parents when they open for Nightwish.

I would see them with Nightwish, but I'm not a huge Nightwish fan to begin with, and the tickets are kinda pricey compared to the last concert I saw at the same place (~$30 for the Metal Alliance Tour w/Holy Grail, Municipal Waste, High On Fire, Exodus, Anthrax vs ~$50 for Nightwish and Sabaton and Delain). If I have money to throw around closer to the date and the tickets aren't sold out, I might go though.

Metal alliance does sound cool, but I'm not seeing anything near me. Anthrax will be coming over but it'll be with Volbeat.

I'm still going to the Sabaton show even though I'm not much of a Nightwish fan myself. I've got the feeling that Sabaton will be stealing that show too. The only guys that managed to hold their own against Sabaton were Amon Amarth.

Good song. Dragonland don't' get enough attention. But more mosh worthy than headbang.

Blast it! It's no where near me! And they're playing The Legacy and The New Order in their entirety. Not cool bro's.

With Exodus on board, you might get something like this going down

Jesus H Christ, that Alestorm show was nothing short of phenomenal! I'll be posting mostly videos (once I upload them to YouTube) but here's a pic of what I got. :3
The drumstick is from when I got up on stage for the song Midget Saw and was dancing around all crazy and I felt something hit the back of my leg. I had been standing in front of the drummer and one of his sticks flew outta his hand, lol.

post-24966-0-40028000-1424662841_thumb.jpg

EDIT: Here's the first video. :3 Excuse the shakiness of the videos. Was focused more on the concert than the videos I was taking.

EDIT #2: And the second video.

Will post more after the next post. Can't double post, and only the first two videos embed into the post. Edited by tehAgg
