Wow, I like this! I only checked this band out because their name struck a chord with me as a brony, but it turns out they're a really heavy hardcore duo from Calgary. Also, they're both hot chicks. Impossible? Check out the Mares of Thrace.

Gonna make another one of these posts. I do feel it necessary to start ranking my top albums of the year, and the data for this list has been solidifying slowly but surely. There are some releases I STILL need to hop on to, like the new Fiona Apple, Spiritualized, and iamamiwhoami LPs, which I'm going to try and get hold of in a bit. But at any rate, here's a tentative top 10.

1. Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence

2. Pig Destroyer - Book Burner

3. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!

4. Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I

5. Death Grips - The Money Store

6. Loma Prieta - I.V.

7. Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud

8. Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music

9. The Contortionist - Intrinsic

10. THEESatisfaction - awE naturalE

Thoughts?

I'm gonna listen to this record soon as well. (Did I post this already?)

And yet another thing? Yes. Anyone else see that new Cattle Decapitation music video? It's... pretty awful to watch.

Alright guys, I have a bone to pick with metal drumming.

Why is it so boring half the time? I love it when it's jazz-influenced, but it's usually just following the guitar the whole time. It's nice when bands like Deftones and ISIS utilize jazz-ier stuff. And Meshuggah. They're AMAZING at stuff like that. But then when I listen to Born of Osiris, it's just the drums acting like another guitar.

Because for them it's less about off-timings and more about speed. While constant 4/4 can get to be monotonous after listening to bands with serious signature changes, pure rhythm in a 4/4 setting can't be discounted.

They're pretty bad, in terms of concept. Just making it for the shock value. It's like Cannibal Corpse taken to a whole new level of shock.

Hey guys, you like good bands, right? Here's a nice band I just found.

Not metal, but good music, regardless.

I'm sure a lot more people would have purchased Halo 3 if the trailer were like this.

I know some of you aren't into All Shall Perish, but this is pretty legit.

Good list. I don't listen to all those bands/artists, but from the ones I've heard, the releases have been great.

The Cattle Decapitation video is just, like, what the fuck are they thinking?

Dethalbum III was released a few days ago. Standout tracks include The Galaxy and Crush the Industry. However, Killstardo Abominate might be the most frantic and brutal song they've made so far.

Saw that at FYE. Fuckng spooky. I'm gonna need to go there more often; I went there today and got the new Godspeed (or should I say Gods Pee (it makes sense trust me)) album on CD. Also went to Hot Topic and got a Deftones shirt. Speaking of which:

And now some hardcore because I'm getting pumped before work.

I wish I had the kind of job you can get fired up for. I have to listen to Katatonia on every break just to ease the monotony and distract myself from fantasies of departure. Speaking of Katatonia, they're another band that's not really metal. Maybe gothic rock is more accurate, but that doesn't begin to describe their despondent atmosphere or the poetry of their lyrics.

Let's just say, this ain't no Evanescence, folks.

It's less "can" and more "if I don't I'll hate my night even more."

I haven't been on the forums at work lately because we've been running two special parts that take a ridiculous amount of time to check. Surface finishes, angles, radii, true positions... ughhhh.

Not strictly metal, but perfect description of the last two weeks of work.

Though being able to listen to any music I want while at work is a huge plus. This usually comes on at least once a night.

Welp, today kinda sucked for me. Started listening through my last.fm metal channel to get my mind off things, and these guys came up:

I thought they were pretty solid.

Nice hardcore there, Crisps.

So guys, this isn't metal, but it's a fine album.

Just came out today. Solid hip-hop.

Guess who's coming back to Philly! I'm definitely going to see Devy again. Plus, he's playing with Gojira.

I'm just going to leave this progressive metal/thrash metal/power metal/groove metal song here. Does anyone know what their actual genre is, or is it a mosh of all the above?

I'm so post-rock, I have everything by Swans.

So the new Pig Destroyer dropped today. While I already listened to the leak, I'm looking forward to getting a fancy special edition CD. :345

These scars unravel true history. Our love was stab wounds and lusty kisses.

I was just graduating high school when these guys were touring for this album.

(Thanks to Djenty), I am currently listening to Book Burner.

Holy fuck, this is awesome. For the first time, I can hear the different instruments rather than one mass collection of noise. I am liking this very much :D

>there is only a guitar, drum, and vocals

Don't see what you're saying. For me, Pig Destroyer was never really a band I like for melody, as much as the raw anger that their sound brings.

Especially local stuff

From The Forest Itself.

Shameless self-promotion plug, but I figured if any thread would have frequenters that might dig this, it's this one. It's basically me, all by my lonesome, combining metalcore with chiptunes.

Interesting combinations. I'll be sure to listen to some of that stuff and form blind opinions on it. :P

Here's what I've acquired to sit through today.

Posted Image

From the post-rock recommendations on /mu/, Stereolab with "Peng!"

Posted Image

Looking forward to this the most; the new Behold... the Arctopus album, "Horrorscension."

And finally...

Djenty talked this one up a good bit. Kendrick Lamar's "good kid, m.A.A.d. city."

In other news, I finally got through "The Seer" by Swans. Forget my top 10 list, because this is my album of the year (changed a lot, didn't it?).

Yes, sitting through the 9 1/2 minute drone is mandatory.

BECAUSE IT'S GOOD.

But seriously, it is good. Have fun calling everyone a "bish" afterwards. ;D

Seeing Deftones again this weekend. Small venue, too, so shit is going to be so cash.
