All in the title. XD

What do you think about this subject, or how would you feel if this were to happen?

Meh, doesn't make a blind bit of difference to me, I might curse like a freaking pig every now and then but if someone wants to take the time to moderate every single foul utterance of mine then they can be my guest :P

Bottom line: I don't f**king care either way X3

To be honest, for such a big forum, people behave really well.

I'm sure everyone is smart enough to know what they can say/what not and how far they can go.

Nothing wrong with a bit of swearing (although I never do it). I'm sure that if the amount of swearing doesn't get to a ridiculous level, i'm sure almost no one has a problem with it.

You hear swearing on tv all the time, and people don't complain about that. It's not a big deal, as long the swearing is not used to insult another user.

There are rules about using bad words in moderation, so no, we would be fine without censorship. Besides, this forum is specifically made for people at least 13+.

Yeah, 13+. But in the current generation (depending on my experience since I'm 13, and everyone else), kids are much more exposed to objectionable content than in the past. You see a bunch of kids playing M rated game, yet they aren't scarred for life, or anything.

I don't see why this topic needs any debate. Since the responses are quite mixed, I doubt the administrators will implement such rule changes.

Let me divert your attention to this:

Keep the foul language down. Swearing is not forbidden on MLP Forums, but we kindly ask that you keep it to a minimum. Not only is swearing out of place in the My Little Pony universe, but some fans who visit this site may be much closer to the target age than you and will not enjoy seeing the F-Bomb drop on their screen. Swearing is strictly prohibited in topic titles and tags, and racial or other derogatory terms against other members, groups, or other entities with the intention of slandering are more or less prohibited. See this FAQ entry for more details if necessary.

And this:

What exactly counts as excessive vulgarity? Is swearing acceptable? Damn straight. When used for emphasis or as Spock would call them, “colorful metaphors,” go for it. “Excessive” swearing would be when one uses the words in such overabundance as to dilute their meaning and add no substance. Trying to limit oneself to one or two per paragraph is a good rule of thumb and will allow you to add that extra force you may be looking for without making the whole thing sound deliberately vulgar. Crude sexual terminology and descriptions of sexual acts are also off-limits. We don't care if or how you just got it on with somebody else, nor do we care about your masturbatory habits.

Of prime concern is the use of slurs and words commonly viewed as insulting. Context is important. We recognize that most people don't have any malign intentions, and moderators will do their best to read between the lines and give people the benefit of the doubt when possible. However, slurs that are used exclusively to insult and alienate people because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disabilities, or any other characteristics are unacceptable and will be treated as abusive behavior. Intent is the most important thing, and intent is without excuse. People who appear to be belligerent or attacking other members will be dealt with accordingly. If you're uncertain whether or not a particular word or saying would be likely to cause offense for any of those reasons, err on the side of caution and feel free to ask a moderator beforehand to be sure if something is acceptable.

Guys, just to be clear, this topic wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I meant what if they censored them for everyone, like using asterisks and stuff like that. XD

No, within reason of course.  I mean, yeah some users here are a bit younger and we don't want to expose anyone to vulgarity, but everyone here's also perfectly capable of determining what's crass and gratuitously vulgar and what's not.  I think colorful language is acceptable for any user in reasonable quantities, and depending on the thread or subforum (i.e. a Forum Game might see more curse words than a Show Discussion topic).  If someone clearly is abusive in the amount of curse words they throw around, then yes, they should receive warnings and possibly be locked out of topics, but that's only if they're clearly being problematic.  Curse words overall should not be censored, just because I think there is, to an extent, a "tasteful", so to speak, manner in which one may employ them in posts (even though I myself generally don't).

Sometimes the occasional "Shit!" is needed. The age limit is on the site for a reason, but certain subforms with different rules would be reasonable...

They swear in my little pony fim so there is no big deal.

No they don't?

They use slang that's clearly meant to represent curse words("what the hay", "horse apples") but there's no actual swearing.

On topic, there could be a system where each user could chose if they want swearing to be censored when they browse the site or not.

No I don't think they should be censored. I for one am against censoring someone's way to fully get their point across. And yes, with some of the depression I see on here, people will need to swear to get their point across. The only time I don't like swearing is when someone uses it just to be edgy like they swear every other word. But other than that, no let people swear if they want to. Besides, the minimum age is 13 and I'm sure most people have heard swear words by that point in life

Considering the audience mlp was created for I really wouldn't care. I think some gag censoring where swear words are replaced by cutesy words instead would be fine, even humorous.

Like: Fluff all of you! I fluffing hate all you happy brony diamond dogs! (Actually this system may encourage me to swear more :P )

But if such a system was implemented I would want it to be chosen to be on or off by the author of the thread when they were creating it. I think it might be useful on some of the voting threads :derp:

Fluff YEAH! FLUTTERSHY IS THE BEST PONY! Fluff Rarity! She's a piece of Diamond!

Much more fun then the alternative for a friendly compitition thread :yay:

Is swearing suddenly an issue? Seems like an unwarranted question, because swearing hasn't been an issue and I doubt it will ever be. I don't know about everyone else, but i'm sure the more frequent posters know when to use their sailor talk, and even then it's never excessive. Censoring vulgarities out of nowhere is likely to cause more trouble than good, and like I said, it hasn't been an issue.

And no, there shouldn't even an option. It's a word, what can it possibly do to you? Just ignore it if it offends you somehow.

Its just a question. Its rarely an issue. This topic is only a "What if" scenario.
