gaming What's the best video game ever made in your opinion?

The best video game I've personally ever played is Minecraft. That game has literally infinite replay value, and it's great mod support adds a lot of awesome content in it. Plus, you can create a character that looks just like you! What would you say is the best video game ever?

I've seen you before... :P
Anyway, I don't have a best game, but some of my favorites include Mega Man 3, Sonic CD (the Taxman remake), Turtles in Time (SNES version), Super Mario World, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Metroid Prime, Mega Man Battle Network 6, and so on.

There's a problem with the question: There are far too many games out there to really say one game is the best ever made. They all do different things in different ways. One game that does something well isn't necessarily doing it well in the same way as another game that does it well also.

I know that sentence was confusing. Bear with me.

That's not even to mention what other people see as quality and what things aren't relevant to the quality no matter how well done it is.

So I won't lower the value of my 400+ game collection by trying to pick one of those. That's not even to mention the several (50+) games I've played that I don't even own or the tens of thousands of other games out there from disc to digital to flash.

Too much variety and too much of it is amazing for there to be any one game made better than the others.

This is a tough one. So many games, different things, PC, console, mostly Nintendo (sadly Nintendo sucks and died with the WiiU), not minecraft, very comma, comic sans, you saw what I did there, meh. I don't really know. I don't think Minecraft is one of them. Despite being able to be played again and again, I find singleplayer to be no fun, and in many cases multiplayer isn't either. I don't like the whole heavily modded stuff, though skyblock is fun. There's Skyrim with no fun in replays after your second time, DDO, which is fun, but eh, it takes to long to level up. Terraria, Starbound, TF2, Dota 2, Sonic games, That weird online game called Wizard 101, and then Lego Universe. That game was awesome. I had so much fun playing that. I really wish they hadn't had to close the game. It was great, but then after free-to-play, they must've run out of money or something. I did like it though. If anyone remembers it. I've just played so many different games, and I should probably use paragraphing and less commas, but who cares? I can't choose. That's my final verdict. There can be no "Best game ever". It's impossible. Or is it? I submit to you, that life, may be the best game ever. But there's no playing it again. No restart. Or is there? So much unknown, so much to explore, truly endless, and Free-to-Play for all. Life, is the greatest game there ever will be.

This post is in Comic Sans as a reference to the Doge meme which I mentioned in text somewhere in this post.

Rayman 2, M and 3!

Damn, my whole childhood is covered with those games. Of course, there are other games too, but I was playing Rayman when my life were the most sucking. And those games everytime could make me a little more happy and peaceful. I was even writing fanfictions and wishing I could visit those lands with Rayman and get to know him.

I don't wanna be rude, brony, but I would highly disagree with you on life being the best game ever. If it qualifies as a game, then I would say it's the worst game ever. Worse than E.T., worse than Shaq Fu, worse than Bubsy 3D, even worse than Action 52! And that's saying a lot! I hope I die soon so that way I can be free from this hellhole we call Earth! In fact, there are so many horrible things I'd rather do right now than be alive at this very second! I'd rather... I'm not gonna say it because I don't wanna gross you out, and I'm not sure if we can insert spoilers in this.

I'm... I'm sorry you had to see that.  :(

Well, CLEARLY it's Big Rigs Over the Road Racing. Absolute pinnacle of game design. :comeatus:

In all seriousness, though, I'm not sure. Mega Man 2 is pretty fantastic. Definitely recommend that game.

A game doesn't have to be enjoyable to be the best. It's teaching, requires full attention, can make you value everything, understand others and things you could never imagine. You could reach the stars and explore the universe. Is that bad, is that horrible? No, it's just the other players of the game can't be as far-seeing as the few who see the potential, so they live this game with a hazed mind, making regrettable decisions, and not trying their best to make it worth every moment. Life is only fun if you try. If you dare to see things no one does, to believe the impossible, and try your hardest to make it happen. Life is what you make it.

I agree with Discordian on this.   Now I for one would say Halo, b/c of the storyline, music, gameplay, etc. however, there are a number of games which were considered the best ever made.  One could say, Halo, the other could say COD, another SSB, etc.   So its pretty hard to decide which is the best ever made

Life is what you make it.

V, I sincerely apologize for my extreme rudeness again, but bulls***. Your life isn't what you make it. Your life is under control by other people. And that is your nation's government. On this living Hell we call Earth, you are to follow ludicrously unfair rules otherwise you are given an extremely unfair and brutal punishment. Why do we have to have rules? Think about it. Wouldn't you like to have that Lamborghini Sesto Elemento you always wanted? Too bad. You can't. Why? The government. The only way you can have it is if you've got 2.2 million dollars. Why does it have to be at such a unaccommodating price?! Because people are selfish arseholes. They only care about themselves. If it wasn't for the government, then my life would be perfect, and I would have everything that I ever wanted. But I can't, because there are stupid and frivolous rules we have to abide by, or else we get slaughtered.

I'm sorry for my incredible rudeness... I just feel really strong about life being not worth it. I'm sincerely, truly sorry you had to see that.  :(

Ocarina of TIme

That's what everybody's best video game of all time is.  :P

Discordian, I just want your personal opinion. :)

(P.S. On terms of game choices, I'm having a much better choice of games than what I expected.)

It's hard to choose which game is the best since there are alot of genres out there.

So I'm going to list my favourite game from each genre:

Stealth: Dishonored

Survival Horror: Outlast

Adventure: Dark souls

RPG: Fallout 3/ NV

MOBA: DOTA 2

Hack and slash: Torchlight 2

Strategy: Civ 5

Sky-goddamn-rim, obviously. Portal 2 is second.

But seriously, Skyrim takes what's good about all of the other EOS games and jams it into one beautiful masterpiece. It has infinite replay value, so you can play it dozens of times and not get bored. Thousands of quests that you can take different routes on, some of the most fun guilds ever, a freakin' religious cult that assassinates in its free time and is actually full of pretty cool people, dragons, the fact that YOU'RE techniclly a dragon, MAGIC, amazing graphics, mods galore, fun followers, Cicero (LISTENERRR), the fact that one of my kids brought a vaguely terrifying Ice Wraith home a few weeks ago, likable and hatable NPC's, money, exploration, partying at Blackreach while trying to not get hit by that goddamn giant, THE ENTIRE DRAGONBORN DLC (I ship the dragonborn with Miraak :3), and overall fun times.

Also, MODS!

Ar Tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica for PS2 is one of my all time favorites. The Ar Tonelico games have a rich story, well developed world and great graphics. I do enjoy the dating sim aspect (like I do in one of my other all time favorite games, Persona 4) especially because in Ar Tonelico 2, one of your potential romantic choices is the super abused (somewhat) secret boss of the first game. Oh, and in the first game, you could choose to let everything remain in the status quo. This will end your game at about the 50-70% mark. Another reason I love these games.

Life before Death, Strength before Weakness, Journey before Destination.

Chrono Trigger, easily.

chrono_trigger_by_jumpix-d46mtbt.jpg

Not only does this game evoke the living end of emotion out of the player, it can easily forge bonds with the player and the sprites and keep you on the edge of your seat.

The fighting system is one that keeps you on the edge of your seat, the soundtrack is the pinnacle of perfection, and it's so damn good at pacing itself you can be a fricken' sword wielding frog riding around a Pterodactyl in the pre-historic era and it makes perfect sense. There are no flaws. It is the epitome of gaming.

I honestly wanted to cry when I beat it the first time...but there's THIRTEEN different endings to achieve, so the replay value of what's already a flawless game is insanely high.
