It depends. I was a huge fan before. Now i usually just enjoy watching movies, mlp fim and gaming.

So anime is not so much on my list anymore. But i do appreciate creative fun stuff that people makes :)

  • 2 weeks later...

•little to no violence

•one in English (I prefer not to read subtitles)

•good character roles

•an easy storyline to follow

That's all I ask.

Steins;Gate. It has Star Trek-level storytelling and character development so you're getting an A+ product.

Anime is a beautiful thing! >v< The art style, the storylines, the creativity, it's gold among animation. Although I am a big supporter and what one might call on otaku, (maybe, it's not really my life all the time, but it kinda it is at the same time lol) I do have my strong reoccuring dislikes with the media. I loved anime and Nintendo even as a little toddler. My art style that has stuck with me all these years even without me knowing yet what it was called is very much based upon it.

1. The fanservice. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind someting more on the erotic side whether it would be fan-made or not but it starts to bother me, if not concern me when I try to watch popular anime on Netflix without intention of seeing it. Nearly every single one had someone, particularly female, being demoralized or focused in a sexual way in at least one scene. I am also aware though that what may come off as everyday and neutral in Japan could be very different in America but it still upsets me with its abundance.

2. I have some issues with the fandoms. Although a lot of them are modest about it and mature, there are those weeaboos that just abuse japanese terms and culture that kinda ruin the content for you. Ugh, and I despise those people who find American animation and shows trash. But then again, I have issues with all my fandoms.

I really hope I'm not the odd man out on this one.

I'm involved in 3 fandoms already which are MLP (of course), Minecraft, and Creepypasta.

I don't need to be cramming in another fandom into my life.

Anime... I'm just not into it.

I know most of you are thinking "I haven't found the right one yet".

Honestly though, I've only seen one whole anime episode.

It was the first episode of Clannad and I found it incredibly boring.

I'm more into western style of cartoons.

Anime in-general is more or less dead to me. Im sick of the predictability of most of them.  :maud:

Tho every once in awhile, i find one i can actually stand.  :maud:

I found some interesting animes on netflix, "Devil is a Part Timer" I thought was a 6/10 but it was a lot easier to grasp than the animes I've tried to watch.  Psycho Pass had a cyberpunk (by the way, I am not a fan of anything with the subword "punk" in the name.  I don't hate it what so ever but I in no way like it either)  The animation was great, the female characters didn't have shrink wrap clothing on them, the fully animated sequences were fun to watch and it's a short series.  It's a 6/10 as well.

I like Trigun a lot for Vash being anti-kill.  However he's in no way shape and form funny to me.  I never laughed at him.  Millie Thompson however I thought was super cute and funny.

I tried Deadman Wonderland and I really don't like it.  A 14 year old in death row?  I know anime is weird but I never liked the age thing in it.  A 16 year old with breasts the size of her head? (Devil is a Part Timer) That's just not right.

For otakus, I can't stand reading subtitles, even if it's Akira Kurosawa films.  I can't stand it.  I don't care if the dubbing is bad, I want to watch the movie.

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of anime, things like DBZ I liked in the past but I don't really find the best anymore and I tried to get into Naruto but I just couldn't. I mean I really tried otakus lol. It's really anime like Durarara!! (the two exclamation marks are important lol) and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood that keep me wanting to watch anime but I've still seen nothing really that catches my interest.

Durarara!! has a couple of characters with mythical powers, or are OP in the case of Shizuo and Izaya (also Simon but he's also a pacifist so he doesn't fight mostly), for a story that takes place in modern day, still it's really cool. Of course I'm too into the mythical and the fantastical for that to bother me but I still recommend watching it since I think my favorite part is when everyone in the background becomes important, the scene still gives me chills and makes me extremely happy to be a kind of background person.

Fullmetal Alchemist: brotherhood I think is awesome though. One thing that FMA:B does is that it lays down the rules to it's world and then it never breaks them, never throws a curveball really. I mean theres a timeskip that I'm not particularly fond of, but it's fine, because the story is just as much about the main character as it is about his friends. The original Fullmetal Alchemist branched off form it's predocessor's story since the manga was not nearly finished when it got made and I haven't watched all of the original but from what I've seen (and opinions I've heard from my friends that have.) I think it's better than the original but I can't say for sure.

The other great thing about both of these is that they don't go on for 200 episodes. FMA B runs to about 64 but Durarara!! comes to a halt about 24 episodes. Durarara!! also has a bit of unique humor in it, at least for anime, but FMA:B has lots of obvious anime cliche humor, but I love anime cliche humor so much lol. Maybe I shouldn't have gone on a rant, it's not like I'm trying to make any of you watch it or anything, I guess I just felt like explaining why I liek them is all ...

Cheria (right) is a small town girl who was afflicted with a terrible sickness when she was very young. Meeting Sophie changed that however. She recovered almost instantly from her illness due to Sophie's magic and gained an undeniable talent with her own, and what does she do with this magic? She acts as a healer for her small town and helps the militia keep the hostile border safe. Seven years later, she's started a nation-wide relief organization after her adventure with Sophie and Friends, a great connection to the element of generosity.

  • 5 months later...

I'm scrolling through the thread and it seems like a lot of people don't like anime. Okay enough with that; I will post my opinion about anime as well as my exposure to it throughout my life.

As a kid, I LOVED Pokémon. I had almost all of the counsel games, a cart chocked full of toys and I adored the cartoon (At the time, I didn't know it was Japanese animation). This was the first anime I watched and was a fan of for many years until I eventually grew out of it when I entered middle school.

I'm not sure if this anime is well known or not, but I used to watch the overly cute anime called Hamtaro (it was basically a show about talking hamsters lol). I had the merchandise, but I wasn't overly obsessed with it as I was with Pokémon at the time. I liked it for a very short time.

Spirited Away was a movie I watched only once as a kid. There is not much to say about it except I was scared of the guy in the mask lol.

Honestly, that's all the anime I was exposed to as a child. One of the reasons why I liked Pokémon as a kid is due to the animation. I thought the show was good and I didn't care much about the storytelling. So my view on anime at the time was neutral because I wasn't exposed to a lot of it.

I will shift my focus to my view on anime currently. Now, I don't care what other people like and I'm not going to criticize them for it; they can watch whatever they please.

Personally, I dislike anime and there are many reasons behind it. I am not fond of the animation; the giant eyes and spikey hair just don't do it for me. Second, the suggestive content is a big no no. I can be really sensitive when it comes to this subject matter; do we really need to see over sexualized characters and hear inappropriate jokes? Like I said above, people can watch whatever they want, but personally I don't want sex, violence, and gore scenes floating through my mind. I am well aware that not all anime is like this, but many are. And lastly, the plotline. Don't get me wrong, I gave quite a few anime a shot. Fruit Baskets, Lucky Star, Sailor Moon, and Death Note. I'm not assuming the stories are bad; I watched a few episodes of the anime I listed so I could get an understanding of the stories and the characters. To me, the characters seem so bland and generic; kind of like the characters in some Western cartoons. And the plotlines, well they are just as generic and bland as the characters themselves.

Well, there you have it; my opinion on anime. I may not like it as much as some of you guys, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

I enjoy watching it. I find many of the storylines interesting.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

So I have never been a fan of anime. I don't like how the art looks (any style of anime)

I don't understand people who say they don't like anime. There are too many diverse shows to simply say you don't like it. Anyone with a beating heart can find something to love in at least one anime.

I realized tonight that I've become an Otaku. I do have something of a social life, but most of my friends come here, rather than going out to see them. Between working from home and having a pain condition, I rarely see the outside world. Between my gaming and anime watching...It's a thing.

Anyways, Toradora, B Gata H Kei, and Black Butler. So much love. So very much love.

The animation is beautiful to some people that's one of the reasons anime is popular. Though I like the cuter shows instead of action oriented shows. Like I found Doraemon easy to get into.

I think one thing people don't like about anime is how it's often slow paced and has filler but I think it's supposed to feel more realistic.

I don't watch anime anymore. I've pretty much seen all the interesting anime already and just read manga now. Anime is so similar to each other these days and it pushes me away from it. The story lines are kinda bland and nothing interesting's going on anymore. Just about every single romance anime is the same now, full of fan service with recycled characters and a thickheaded protagonist going after a thickheaded girl while they visit every single cliche in the romance book. Action is just about the same too, they have hardly any storyline and try to hide it with over-the-top action scenes and lots of flashy gfx. There's always some protagonist with some super secret stronk power and a character who's superior to him but has a dark emo past that we should feel something for. Well, after the twentieth Sasuke clone I'm kinda done with it. It's not surprising though, since Naruto, Bleach and One Piece set up this kind of action anime standard for modern animes.

I miss animes like Trigun, Steins;Gate, K-Project, Paranoia Agent, Death Note and Code Geass. Say what you will about the last two, but you can't deny how good they are. Even more "boring" animes like Monster and  are a ton better than say, Vampire Knight, Sword Art Online and Kill La Kill. Heck, I wonder how many people still watch/read Shingeki because the author added a ton of plotlines and background stories instead of focusing on what made it popular in the first place.

I guess I'm just tired that modern animes are constantly exploring the same parts of anime cliches. So many of them are so similar. There's a few gems, but there's also a ton more garbage getting produced and all I can think is how it's possible people don't see it and praise anime for what it is, just revisited storylines, a flurry of pantyshots, obnoxious superficial characters hidden behind emo and self-pity/indifference to create artificial depth. Name one anime, let me see one episode and I'll suggest 5 other animes that are very similar.

I am really indecisive. I find some Anime to be scary and some fun. I find it scary when there is a lot of blood involved as something beautiful and colerful is being turned into something horrific. So, I'm kinda in between :T
