Does anypony go to church?

As of March I've started going to church weekly as much as possible....

But then my faith took a big dip 2 months later, and from then on, everytime I go to church I get distracted about other things not related to church, or I might be thinking about how I want to interpret the bible based on my studies I had a while back, even though I shouldn't try to bend what I was taught back then with another affiliation that seemed reasonably accurate with their interpretations, but it was hard for me to accept what I was taught, like taking the red (or blue) pill from the matrix . Today I basically thought about other things half the time I was in church -_-. I wish I had my faith sorted out :/ .

And ultimately that is up to you.

I had many ups and downs as well.  I felt that in order for me to accept what the church was teaching I had to reinterpret it for myself.  Still, it felt like I was making excuses for something that was supposed to be 'perfect' and that didn't feel good at all. Whenever I asked these questions to my family and pastor, I was told to simply 'have faith'.  That just wasn't enough for me :-/

btw, I love your analogy of the red and blue pill.  That is exactly what it feels like.

  • 6 months later...

I'm not a Christian, but I go to a Christian church anyway, usually once or twice a month. It's a beautiful and tranquil place, and I get a lot of spiritual benefit and wisdom out of it even if my precise views don't agree with every major tenet of Christianity.

My parents made me go to church when I was young, but to be honest, I never liked it. It was the most dreaded moment of the week for me - having to go and sit there and be bored for hours. >.>

Now I'm no longer religious, and I'm soooo glad I don't have to sit through that anymore. My weekends actually start Sunday morning, and let me say going to a church service is the very last thing I want to do to start off my weekend! Thankfully my parents haven't pressured me to go to church for years. They don't really attend church themselves. I think the one that we used to go too political for them or something...

Occasionally, but I'm not a Christian, I am Jewish, and I go to Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism, when I lived in Spartanburg Congregation B'nai Israel was my temple. Most of the year, I am not observant, I mostly go on holidays like Passover, Rosh Hashanah, or Hanukkah, to connect with people I have not seen in a while, or to meet new people, nevertheless, I feel I don't have to go to the temple every shabbat, to be holy or pious, it is the spirituality we share with each other, that makes us good, for we can be sympathetic throughout the year, and anywhere we go.

I do.

It's a bit of a bike trek, but I get there.

I went to church a lot when I was young, but then they started bullying me there. I stopped going and I haven't been there ever since.

I was shy and I didn't talk much and the other kids were making fun of me. I don't want to be in a place like that.

You could go to another Church.

When I did have a belief in God I always complained about my mom making me go to church.

I mean some building for worshipping a God, can't you do that anywhere?!

If I was going to worship a God, I'd do it in the most convenient place: my home, not some building.

So no, I don't go to church and whenever I was made go, I'd complain about how useless the places were.

No.

1.) Me nor my parents are religious. My mom kind of is but she's not the church-going type.

2.) I have special needs. I can't sit through an entire church sermon without getting antsy, bored or panicky.

Religion is just something I find difficult to understand. I don't want to turn into a debate so... yeah. However, when I was younger... I did take part in this Sunday School type thing. It was actually fun. Sadly, they don't do those things for adults though. Whether they have special needs or not.

I'm a Christian, but I don't go to church every Sunday; only on Christmas and Easter. This is due to me having social anxiety so I get kinda nervous around large groups of people. I'd rather worship God at home anyway; I mean, who needs a building to do it in? A Christian can worship anywhere.

I do not go very often since I'm in college and the nearest church is far away. I normally go in the summer and when I'm on a break of some sort.

Not often, but I do because I attend a private Catholic school. It's compulsory to attend mass every 3-4 weeks or so.

I used to. Kinda stopped because I liked sleeping in. But now I found a new sect I'm much happier in (Religious Society of Friends AKA the Quakers) and I've been meaning to go to a Quaker meeting. Keep getting scheduled to work.

I try to go whenever I can, but I'm going to be looking for a new church since I'm moving to a place about half an hour away from my current church.  It'd be nice to finally go a church where I'm not the only adult that's under 40.

Been going to Catholic mass on a weekly basis since I was 6.  I used to hate it when I was young but now I get a deep sense of peace and ease when on attend mass.  I think there is much to get out of it if you attend church to truly celebrate the mass rather than treat it as another unwanted obligation and use the time for some self reflection.

My mum took me to church when I was young but I told her to stop when I was about 8. I thought it was hypocritical for me to go to church when I knew everything they said was untrue. Even at that age I knew too much about science and history to buy it. I still think it's a terrible thing to take a kid to church; take them to museums and places of learning instead. If they want to seek religion later in life on their own volition then who can stop them? But it should not be forced upon children.

My parents took me maybe every other Sunday until I was about 12. They never made me pay attention or anything, thus it never really influenced me at all.

Even if it had, I still think I'd be free floating like I am today.

I do every Sunday, only some mornings my family helps out at the children's ministry part and watches kids whose parents are in the service, and I sleep in those days since I don't do well with kids for long amounts of time. But I go on Sunday nights for youth consistently for at least one part of the year (this part). My school is also a Christian school and we have chapel once a week, so that kind of counts, but I don't get nearly as much out of that as I do my own church. Seriously, my church has like the best youth minister ever >w<
