That's cool.

I doubt it. But even if it did happen, I wouldn't really care because considering the strength of solar flares, we'd all disintegrate instantaneously.

Honestly, though, this is a comforting thought. If it were to happen right this instant, we'd feel nothing.

People really need to check their facts etc. before ranting on about something they heard on the news and stuff

Blah, blah, blah...

First: I already survived 4 "ends of world" (millennium bug, 21.XII.2012, Ragnarök and Baba Vanga's . There are probably many more which I don't know). Why should I think that this time we'll all die?

Second: Earth has a magnetic field, which protects us from solar wind (ozone layer has nothing to do here. It protects us from UV and helps to stay a warmth in an atmosphere). The worst thing what can happen is that we may lose electricity for some time.

Third: Life is not a Hollywood's movie. Even if Sun killed us, it would be very fast death. Temperature would kill us in a few seconds. So we wouldn't even have time to realize this blindness and feel "very painful death".

Protip: Believe in science, not magic.

By the way, solar flares are associated with radio blackout conditions.

One of my pet peeves are people posting crap about stuff like this before looking into it more.

I highly doubt this. I couldn't even find the article OP mentioned.

But hey if the world were to end in a week. At least I'll have my Princess Luna plush by then.

The ozone layer doesn't protect from solar flares, and plus it might be strong enough to break through it and wipe us out. And I'm not trolling, I saw on the NASA site. This thread is now hot, very fitting.

Yeah your right the ozone doesn't protect us from solar flares.

The earths magnetic field does. And it won't break through because the earths rotation on its axis is what creates this field. And it doesn't get weaker from solar activity either. The ozone will protect us from most of the radiation coming in, and the radiation that comes in will be harmless amounts. Not to worry Friend!

Oh no.

What ever shall we do.

I am shaking in my boots.

(I almost never use sarcasm in a cynical way, but... just wow.  I mean.  *facehoof*)...

---

[1]

Also, the ozone layer mostly just protects us from UV rays, not flares and CMEs. Those get deflected by our magnetic field, though a strong enough one could get through it. And while one could theoretically incinerate us all, the sun is far too small to have an event that big.

[2]
What's could happen (though still extremely unlikely) is it wiping out all our electronics and we all get fucked over that way.

1. Thank you.  I was going to put that, but I'm glad I didn't have to.  Seeing this made me give off a sigh of relief.

2. Yes, that is unlikely, but yet still possible.

I find good humor in it myself, to be honest.

This thread is so asinine I think the op is a troll.

This word.  I like this word.  It's not used as often as it could be.

On the other hand, I prefer not to call people bad names, but, seeing you used it to describe a thing, and not a person... I give you kudos.

Mods have senses of humor as well.

Evilshy, Astral, and Daring pointed out enough facts related to CME's and Solar prominence to call this debunked.  I feel that saying anything beyond what they said would be me being tardy to the party.

I'm a pro at surviving the apocalypse. Better than a cockroach. I survived Y2K, gangnam style, and 2012, and I was asleep/semi-conscious most of the time through all of it.

I just read a bunch of fanfics on Fimfiction.Net, looking for things to review.

Everything I found was either too generic to say anything meaningful about, or too terrible to admit that you saw it.

I don't say things like this often, but... I think this might be ok.
