We have already seen what Discord looks like in the human world. He is called Q, and Picard hated his guts as much as Twilight.

Well, the Diamond Dog's EG equivalents are human as well, so it's fair to say the portal has a mind of it's own. It might have a way of understanding whether a certain world has a certain sentient species that is dominant in that one area and thus turns the sentients beings of that one world in the sentient beings of the other.
