Do You Keep Your Figures in the Box or Open Them For Display?

I apologize if this has already been a topic (I didn't see a topic like this but there's a chance I might have missed it).

I just started to buy Funko figures. I currently have 1 which is a Rainbow Dash figure. I was wondering. Do you keep your Funko figures (or any MLP toy for that matter) in the box or do you open them for display?

I was honestly thinking about keeping it in the box but now I'm not sure.

Well, it depends on what you plan to do with it. As an investment to sell later, or to keep mint for yourself, or to display.

I have a couple of funkos, and am heavily into memorabilia, screen used props, autographs, etc, but it varies with me. I keep old school toys/action figures MOC and archived away in a box in a cupboard. Statues & props are behind archival glass out of direct sunlight, or out of direct sunlight on a shelf.

All my MLP are unboxed and on display.

I open them, seeing them sealed in a box is so boring and fairly ugly honestly. My Octavia funko probably should've stayed in the box though, since like some funko figures, it looks awful.

Honestly, it kind of bugs me when people keep their collectible toys in the box, unless they actually plan on re-selling them one day.  I have a friend who's wife gave him a FFVII Advent Children Could & Fenrir action figure set, and he keeps it in the box on a shelf.  Never opened it.  He's never going to sell it--it was a gift from his wife.  Why not open it so you can see it and really enjoy it?  I don't mean you should take it out back and play with it in the dirt or something, but just open it and put him on the damn motorcycle!

I open mine and display them.  I hate seeing figures kept away in boxes like no one cares about them.  My glitter Celestia is the only unopened figure I have, and that is because I originally bought it to resell.  I've been seriously considering keeping it and displaying it recently, though...

I usually just open all my collectables and have them out on display. For some reason though I haven't done that with any of the Funko MLP figures. I've about 6 of them now and none of them I've bothered opening. I think it's just because I haven't found anywhere to put them right now.. I'd rather give them their own area then have them clutter up places where I already have stuff displayed. Not something I'd really consider reselling anyway, it's not as if they're overly rare.

Think I might keep Shining Armor in his though regardless. His face looks incredibly derpy when viewed from the front. :muffins:

I usually open my figures and such, unless I feel a need to keep them in the box, but even then I at least opened them at least once.

I suggest keeping them in the box. I mean, you can open them carefully to look at the pony :3 but make sure to put them back. Its the dust that is concerning and nopony would like their ponies to sneeze from all the dust bunnies o3o and extra work to dust off a lot more stuff :3

I display them in the box, i dont really have a shelf to put them and display them properly so right now i have my figures from Funko and Hasbro stacked in my desk. Once i get a shelve (?) i will take them out of the box and display them, except for rare ones.

  • 2 weeks later...

I open display all my action figures and other geek stuff. I'm not into collecting for money purposes, just fun, so all my stuff is out of the box. My blind bag ponies are on my floating book shelves next to my Star Trek action figures and Doctor Who posters. I'm not afraid of what people think. Although, I do frame my posters and art just because I think it looks more adult and gives a cleaner look.

I feel the same. I buy figures because they make me happy, I can't imagine keeping them boxed and shoved in a closet somewhere.

How can you play with them if they're in the box?!

Seriously though, I have about half of mine open. The rest I've resisted the urge, but mostly because I'm moving. Once I do, those suckers are going to be open so fast it'll make their plastic heads spin.

OPEN OPEN OPEN.

I was always told not to take collections out of the boxes when I was little and have a pretty large amount of unopened Barbie's because of that time, so now I'm all about opening. 1, because they are easier to display on my shelves that way, and 2, because I like to hold them and touch them and boxes are constricting.

I feel like this depends on the figure you get and how the company packages them. I know that Funko's pop figures  and vinyl figures aren't factory sealed so sometimes I'll display them out of the box and sometimes I'll display them in the box. If the figure were factory sealed for instance, Hasbro's brushable ponies I'd display them out of the box or buy a display box to keep them in mint condition.

Depends on the toy, really, the collectability and value of each piece.

I've got a Glow In The Dark Zecora that I've kept in the box, purely because you can't buy her anymore in stores and a friend of mine gave her to me.Also have a Fashion Style Pinkie and Rainbow Dash in their packages still, from way back in 2010/2011 when I bought them.

I also have some early 2000's Hot wheels still in their packages as they were a limited Run or because they had a defect in them.

But usually, I take them out of the box....I've got 20 various Fluttershy vinyl figures on my desk at the moment...all of them have been taken out of their packages....(and I still don't have every Fluttershy vinyl out there..lol)

Fluttershy's lover, she's my waifu. I'm in love and obsessed with her, she's given me shyabetes. *Hnnnng*

I take my figures out of the box. They're easier to arrange and they take up a lot less space this way.  :squee:

There's only one figure I keep in a box, tho! The talking pink Celestia a close friend gave to me for Christmas... She decorated the box with some awesome drawings and getting rid of it just doesn't feel right!

Whoa! I'd love to see them all! Do you have a photo?  :squee:
