This has to be the most polarizing game that ripped the Metroid fanbase in two. Rather than give you a boring text-based explanation, let me link you to a video that does a pretty good work of explaining everything while being entertaining.

Well I had a nice long post explaining a lot of reasoning for things, and then my browser crashed, so here's the short version.

Spore - they hyped the shit out of it, corporate came along, told the devs to dumb it down so they could target it at younger kids. Cell and creature phase are fun, tribe and civilization are shitty RTSs, space is a shitty sandbox.

Skyrim - Take Morrowind, dumb it down a shitton so casual gamers can understand it, stick it in a shitty physics engine and an admittedly much improved combat system and ship it. Mods are the only reason this game is playable, though I will admit it can be pretty damn fun then.

Diablo 3 - See Torchlight 2 for what it should've been. Also, just play Torchlight 2 because it's super fun.

Zelda series - I didn't play it back when I was a kid and it was the coolest shit ever, and it's just not fun now. Most of my friends who love it agree that it's mostly nostalgia.

Kingdom Hearts series - Mediocre hack'n'slash that rides on the backs of famous characters from other IPs. 358/2 Days was pretty damn fun, though. I liked how customizable the tile system was.

Civilization: Beyond Earth - I wanted a true Alpha Centauri sequel, but being pessimistic, I pretty much knew it wouldn't be that. I would've settled for Civ 5 in space, but apparently even that was too much to ask. This game was like, Beta Civ 5 in space. Of course, it is a civ game so it'll probably be super kickass after a few expansions, but I definitely regret buying it at $50.

What are your thoughts on Arena, Daggerfall and Oblivion?

Skyward Sword was the biggest waste of money, ever.

What are your thoughts on Arena, Daggerfall and Oblivion?

Haven't played Arena or Daggerfall, so I can't comment on those.

As for Oblivion, I haven't played it nearly as much as Morrowind or Skyrim, so I might not have a complete picture. Based on my experiences, and those of my friends, it was similar to Skryim in that it dumbed down a lot of stuff, but not as much. On the flip side, it didn't add any of the cool stuff that Skyrim did, like the two hands equipment system (i.e. putting whatever you want in whatever hand you want, super flexible and I love it), dragons, and smithing actually letting you create stuff instead of just repairing it.

Overall, I think it goes Morrowind > Skyrim > Oblivion.

A game that I was really disappointed in was Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi. The visual graphics and the animated cutscenes looked good, but the fighting mechanics felt stale and repetitive. It was all about a 50/50 chance if you got to land any damage to your opponent or to keep a combo going. It was also poorly done because each if not all the characters playable had the exact same combos so there wasn't really any variety in anyone you play unless they had a transformation to change into.

Is it too early to say fallout 4..... No No No only kidding.

I was very very disappointed by watchdogs, I fell for the hype and the marketing, and preordered it...

Was very very disappointed when it came out

Dark Souls..

when it became free with gold on Xbox Live me and my friends were excited for it... when we played it we knew the game was harder than American steel but we enjoyed the challenge.... but then we tried to do multiplayer.... we couldn't because we needed to progress and get the soapstone.... okay sounds reasonable..... we get the soapstone and I can't use it because I'm undead... sure no problem I'll cure myself.... we try for a third time and I couldn't use it simply because fuck you.... that might as well of been what the game said..... after that I was pretty pissed off I deleted the game and haven't played it since.... one of my other friends progressed a little farther before deleting it while my third friend beat the game twice....

its a great game.... but they needed to make the multiplayer mechanics a lot simpler like inviting your friend via messenger and I would of loved it

I have a couple from the same franchise which pretty much led to my abandoning of it.

Sonic Shuffle: I had the Sega consoles growing up with the exception of Super Nintendo. Since I couldn't play Mario Party, I figured the Sonic version would be fun. How wrong I was. It was your typical bad Mario Party clone and there were plenty of them at the time. Everything about the game sucked from the insanely hard AI of the computer (even on easy they cheat), the cheesy story and the badly designed disc which led to excruciating loading times. At this point, you had to wonder if Sonic Team was even trying a anymore which explains my next entry...

Sonic Adventure 2: There really was no way to sugar coat this. There were two different stories but each of its three characters had mirror image gameplay. The story is convoluted with Rouge having no formal introduction. The first time we see her, she's immediately fighting with Knuckles over the Master Emerald. The introduction of Shadow was also half-assed. Let's make the whole town think Sonic's evil while his framer looks nothing like him. What a great plot twist! They also took what worked for the Knuckles levels, where two emerald pieces can be displayed on the radar at the same time, and made it so that only one piece can be find at a time. As expected, this makes the Knuckles/Rouge levels harder than they need to be. What disappointed me most is what they did to Tails. They don't have him flying anymore and you play the main levels with him controlling a robot. This was the game that turned me away from Sonic for good.

After having experienced the golden era of Square games, I of course had high expectations for FF12. Ya....wow....that was bad. Single player Final Fantasy games have been dead to me since.

RIP Square, in loving memory of FF 4-10.

This was the most horrifying thing I've read in awhile. FFXII is my favorite in the franchise.

But unlike a lot of people I only consider FF better in its later years. The early ones were meh at best.

There's really only 2 games I can think of right now:

Super Smash Bros Brawl - and no it's not because I was a super competitive Melee purist. It's just that, for some reason, I just didn't play it nearly as much as the older Smash Bros and that was a little surprising for me. I'm going to go ahead and say that I probably didn't enjoy it as much because I didn't have as many friends to play against at that point.

Final Fantasy XII - I'd always liked Final Fantasy (well, ever since I knew of it. Though to be fair, I was more used to just watching the story unfold before). I did not like the combat at all and I absolutely hated that every character could do everything. Plus, Vaan sticking around after a certain point in the story always leaves me thinking "why is he still here?".

I was mostly disappointed with:

Game of Thrones (by Cyanide Studios)

and some strategy based game where you play as the Romans or something (not a big game).
