movies/tv Is most Television centered on Death?

As I sometimes forget, there is television outside of MLP. But watching other shows, as in shows aimed towards older audiences, I've seen that during most episodes, there is some sort of death or violent act.

I am kind of opinionated on this subject because of this song vicarious.. But it does give some valid points.

Like...

Eye on the the TV

'Cause tragedy thrills me

Whatever flavor it happens to be, like...

"Killed by the husband"

"Drowned by the ocean"

"Shot by his own son"

"She used a poison in his tea, and kissed him goodbye"

That's my kind of story

It's no fun 'til someone dies

Don't look at me like I am a monster

Frown out your one face, but with the other

Stare like a junkie into the TV

Stare like a zombie

While the mother holds her child, watches him die

Hands to the sky crying, "Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die...from a distance

Vicariously I live while the whole world dies

You all need it too, don't lie

That sums most of it up. Even in news, the main story is never some feel-good piece, but some "Shot by his own son" story. But people of course have to watch these shows for them to stay on. What I'm wondering is, how did t.v get this way? DISCUSS

because peace is boring,

death and violence is where all the action is

think about it, what would you rather hear about?

a story about a local football team winning a season?

or a story about a double homicide?

90% of the time, yes. They want emotion, but blame it on the actors/actresses that wanna quit after a while without getting a replacement for their character. Killing them off is ideal! Lets do that! I mean, look at Optimus Prime in the original G1 transformers, it caused chaos! Now then, television is fascinated with death. Since the beginning, mainly because death is mysterious.

You guys are right.... Bringin the song back into this,

Credulous at best your desire to believe in

Angels in the hearts of men

Pull your head on out your hippie haze and give a listen

Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile, so impersonal

Devour to survive... so it is, so it's always been

I guess t.v wasn't made for 'niceness'

As the great Michael Scott once said:

"Think about this: what is the most exciting thing that can happen on TV or in movies, or in real life? Somebody has a gun. That's why I always start with a gun, because you can't top it. You just can't."

I think that used to be the case, but now, it's extremely predictable, unless a character that actually means something is killed. Other than that, it's become just another cliche in modern entertainment.

Not "death" per se, but drama is interesting. If death gives good drama, then it's kewl.

Drama, yes.
Killing off characters in a TV series is not viable in the long run since actors want to be paid. They don't want to commit to being in a show for just a few episodes, to be killed off.
