To go for DVD, or not to go for DVD?

I am thinking to buy me some ponies home media, so I could also keep them on my pony shelf. However I've encountered one casus. All seasons are only available on DVD's. Only Equestria Girls movies are avalable on Blu-Ray's. I have 2 questions:

1. How good is the quality of DVD's?

2. Should I wait for Seasons to be released on Blu-Ray?

P.S: Yes, I did hear that iTunes offers HD. And one more "yes"(just in case): I know that Germans released on Blu-Ray.

Hi ,

While your thread does belong in Sugarcube Corner, I have moved it to Pony Merchandise to be more specific. :)

Thank you. Wasn't sure if home media counts as merchandise.

For my part, I know DVDs does not have the best quality, but they are always a good acquisition for a collection!

Guess I will go for EG movies only. For now

BTW, I heard that Blu-rays come with a dvd as disk 2. Can someone explain its purpose?

I've been waiting awhile for them to be released on Blu ray.  If it wasn't for Netflix, I'd have bought every season on DVD in a heartbeat.  So if you don't have access other than purchasing, I'd say buy the DVDs.  If it's for display purposes, then that's personal preference.  I think Blu rays look more collectorish, but I know everypony is different and biz.

I see it as a back up disc in case you brought a Blu-ray movie to someone's house who doesn't have a player for it. And you're like "That's ok, I have a dvd too!"

So basically, you buy Blu-Ray and get DVD for free?

I actually think Youtube has better quality than the DVD's. I own all 4 seasons and the 2 Equestria Girls movies, and I prefer what I downloaded on Youtube because it looks better. I have them for nostolgia factor and in case I lose my data on my external HDDs (heaven forbid, but you never know)

I wish, but I guess it depends on how you look at the price. ↓

If you look at the Despicable Me Blu-Ray Combo sets like the regular Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital Copy; it's either $4.44ish each or $6.65 for two discs or $13.33 for just the Blu-Ray.  However if it doesn't say "includes free DVD" or "free Digital copy" then it's more than likely you're paying for everything in the box.

I buy DVDs.  They look fine to me.  And I'm supporting the show.  Sure, if they come out on BluRay I'll probably buy them and give the DVDs to the local library.  But the DVDs look jus' fine to me.

I have the DVD's. I bought them because my Mom is going to cancel Netflix and that's the only way I can watch MLP legally. Sure, the picture quality is not the best but at least I can watch my favorite show without relying on internet or without trying to convince my Mom to keep Netflix.
