Figured out why it wasn't working on my PC...the default drivers for Wifi and my Netgear wireless adapter don't like each other, and it causes the OS to crash constantly. If I use Netgears drivers, than I can't connect to anything because it doesn't show any access points.

Netgear needs to fix their shit.

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.

Loved it at first sight, but when I wanted to play a game on Steam (as the majority of games on Steam can run smoothly on Windows 10), there are certain games that will NOT boot up at all such as GRID Autosport. I hate to say this, but I'm growing to hate Windows 10 unless the devs who made this game fixes the problems or I'll be reverting back to Windows 8.  :okiedokielokie:

All you have to do is disable as much spying and sharing that Microsoft does on your stuff and it's completely fine.

Yeah, that's one of the down sides of this OS. I wonder what's with all the spying  :okiedokielokie:

I did a review of it on another thread, so I'll keep this short:

It has a slight performance upgrade, and for those who "hated" 8 (I personally did not mind it) it's a good upgrade. However unless you need that slight performance boost and you absolutely hate the OS you're on, 10 is not really a "necessary" upgrade at this moment. Cortana which was like their big flagship upgrade I felt was kind of a let down due to how ultimately useless it is unless you want to switch from Google to Bing and use Edge as your only browser.

I give it a 7/10.

I don't know, I don't really like it either but it's not like Windows 7 and 8/8.1 don't have their share of spying, because I'm sure they do. At least a bit. And let's not forget that the NSA already knows everything about us, but it's a shame for Microsoft trying to be hip and cool by following their lead.

I only upgraded to 10 because I was stuck with 8.1. Gotta say though, it's a lot better, which was to be expected really. It took me a fraction of the time to get used to the interface than it did with 8.1, and so far no compatibility issues, thank god, although it did try to push Microsoft Edge on me whilst changing my default browser. Not very interested in your IE clone, thanks.

Alright I got my upgrades last night. Easy upgrade process. I actually like it! It is making our laptop perform much better than it did with Windows 7,which was very sluggish and made me believe it was utter crap needing to be replaced with a new laptop. So I am stoked to have a good fast running laptop again. I like the design, however it will take some getting used to some of the new location of things. So far, I like it.

I love it so far, the only problem i had was my mouse freaking out and not working, but there was a driver that was free to download that solved it, everything else has been great though. Soooooooooooooo much better than 8 and 8.1! :)

Yeah, good to hear that Windows 10 is going well for almost all of you.

The school still wouldn't let us upgrade our laptops to Windows 10 yet :|

Still waiting....

I upgraded recently and I'm liking it so far. It lags sometimes, but other than that, it's pretty good.

I'm still using Windows 7, but am really interested in 10. My only concern is that I don't want to lose any data, and I want my older games to be able to run properly. To those who have upgraded, did you lose any files in the process? Having any compatibility troubles with games?

Nope. When you upgrade, you will still have all of your files. Also, I've had no real trouble with the games, so you should be fine.

I give it an 8. I would have given 6, but it installed some new updates that fixed a few issues for me. So I am good with it. I just have to get used to it now.

It lags sometimes,

What do you mean by that? Would it be because of your laptop or desktop, or it would be just the OS itself?

I'll elaborate. Sometimes, when a page is loading on my browser, it makes another page lag a fair bit. I'm not sure if it's because of my laptop or the operating system. Either way, I'm sure there's a way around it.

Which browser? I heard Microsoft Edge is better than IE, but I would still go with Chrome ^^

Actually, I do use Chrome. Edge just isn't the browser for me.

It worked perfectly when upgrading it on my and any system, Windows 10 is a perfect way with the start menu and resumes fast rather with Windows 8 and 8.1! They've also removed Windows Media Center, so that must be replaced with the Groove Music app.

The new thing for Windows 10 is the Microsoft Cortana (your personal digital assistant) and Microsoft Edge (the new Internet browser). :)

Yeah, it could just as well as be hardware. Or just the the latest Chrome doesn't support Win 10 yet. Too bad they're dropping Java support :\

I'm going to make this simple for you.  I have 2 computers.  One I kept on Windows 7, one I upgraded to 10.  I also have had experience using friends' computers who were running Windows 8.

I love Windows 7.  I give it a 9.5/10.
I hate Windows 8.  I give it a 4/10.
I like Windows 10.  I give it a 9/10.

So, what is it that makes the 0.5 difference between 7 and 10?

Windows 7 organization and UI is truly a masterpiece.  It's a perfect balance of business-casual.  Everything is nice and tidy, looks great, and is very familiar to anyone who has used any previous generation of Windows.  Yes, even Windows 98.  Though probably more-so for XP and Vista.  The looks have become sleeker and more contemporary, but without the sacrifice of changing the important things we are so familiar with and love from the older OS's.

Windows 10 is a sidestep.  It became too "business" in some areas, and too "casual" in others.  By that I mean, the style of organization, and trying to find settings and all that stuff.  The Desktop is okay, but I hate the UI style of the taskbar and start button.  Click the start button, and all familiarity is gone, at least for me being used to Windows 7.  It's like it's trying to be more personalize-able while somehow failing and making it hard to find things.  However, that's a very small issue when looking at the big picture.  It shouldn't be hard to become accustomed to Windows 10.  And it is a tiny bit faster than Windows 7.  But honestly, it just seems like a step sideways rather than forwards (and fwiw, Windows 8 was a step into another dimension that was being based from a proxy in hell).

Is Windows 10 reeeally worth the upgrade?

If you have Windows 8, then FUCK YES IT IS!  Upgrade NOW!

If you have Windows 7...

Maybe.  I mean, you could always upgrade to 10 and if you don't like it, I believe you have a one month grace period to revert back to Windows 7.  More than likely, you'll end up keeping 10, just for the sake of it.  But personally, I'm glad I kept Windows 7 on my primary laptop.  So take that for what it's worth.

Wow, a beautiful review here! A good read ^_^

Thank you  :)

As a computer science major, and someone who has always been a lover of Windows operating systems, I have to say that I have no idea what the hell Microsoft was smoking when they created Windows 8.  And although I do feel Windows 10 is a sidestep from Windows 7, Windows 10 is a successful redemption from the excruciatingly horrid OS that was Windows 8.

I am sure that in due time, as Microsoft makes new Windows Updates and patches for Windows 10, it will become as good as Windows 7, if not better.  Also what's nice is that there are 3rd party downloads that allow people to change their start button menu.  Now, I haven't used any myself, so I have no experience with that, but nonetheless, the ability to customize your OS to your liking is a major plus.

The key to a good OS is a combination of security, user-friendly UI that looks sharp, ability to customize to a certain degree, and overall performance.  Windows 7 does excellent in all categories.  Windows 10 has a short way to go with the UI.  But as I said, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to get used to the differences between 7 and 10.

The start-up load time, shut-down time, and overall quickness of Windows 10 is comparable to Windows 7, if not a little bit quicker.

I should mention that the computer I upgraded to Windows 10 wasn't fast to begin with anyway, so it's possible that on a machine that's already quite fast with Windows 7, the small gain in quickness might be more noticeable.

Now for the unmentioned caveats:

Many have complained about Windows 10 security features.  Thing is, for the average user, the caveats are not a big deal.  However, for us nerdy computer users, knowing that Windows 10 has a setting that allows others to connect to our computers to download files from the OS while they are upgrading is a large concern.

Peer-to-Peer Downloads for Updates are Enabled, Even Over the Internet

To speed up updating, Windows now uses peer-to-peer downloads for updates. For example, if you have several Windows PCs at home, you don’t necessarily have to download the same update several times. Instead, the first PC to update would download it and the other PCs could download it from the first PC.

You can control whether peer-to-peer downloads are enabled from the “Choose how updates are delivered” link under “Advanced options” here.

By default, Windows 10 enables peer-to-peer downloads over the Internet as well, and your PC will use some of your upload bandwidth sending those Windows updates to other PCs. You can disable this by selecting only “PCs on my local network” here.

http://www.howtogeek.com/223068/what-you-need-to-know-about-windows-update-on-windows-10/

That is how to disable the peer-to-peer downloads.

There are other things that some have complained about, but just do a Google search for what settings you should disable in Windows 10.  Countless websites with How-To's and such will explain the settings and why you should disable them.

I think i'm going to stay with windows 8.

I'm still very confused on if i should upgrade or not as i hear a lot of good things about windows 10 but then i hear a lot of bad things such as the bugs and such.

Apparently windows 10 is ideal for gamers such as myself which is the main reason i'm thinking about upgrading but i'm still not sure.

Anyone got any convincing facts to make me upgrade? :P

I would say to wait maybe a month to upgrade, to let all the bugs and such be ironed out. For gamers, performance is the same (maybe a teensy bit better), but the main reason for gamers to upgrade is for DirectX 12. Unfortunately, there are no games out yet that utilize it, but they are supposed to be coming later this year. As for the rest of the OS, such as Microsoft Edge, Cortana, etc., well... It depends on if you actually want that stuff. Cortana is pretty good if you want a digital assistant, but I want to be playing games, not talking to my computer! The Edge browser right now is just not on the level of Chrome or Firefox, but that will change as Microsoft keeps updating the OS and stuff. General performance in the OS itself feels a bit faster, and I actually like the look of the new UI. There is also this handy guide for tweaking it to your liking: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3f48kd/windows_10_tips_and_tricks/

Overall, it's pretty good. Microsoft managed to recover from shooting itself in the foot with Windows 8. Upgrade now if you're feeling confident and won't mind some possible bugs (any bugs that I experienced have since been fixed), otherwise, wait a month or so. Hope this helps ya.  :)

Well really the only thing about windows 10 that makes me want to get it is directx 12. that's it.

I'm okay with using windows 8 and the windows 8 interface now so it doesn't bother me as much as others say it does

I think i most likely won't upgrade.
