  1. 1. Is Rarity a gold digger?

    • Yes, she would jump at the chance!

    • Not at all, Rarity would never do such a thing!

Do you think, given the chance, Rarity would marry a wealthy stallion just for his money and the prestige it would bring her?

Actually, it ignites my heart to say it, but yes.

Rarity is my favorite of the Mane Six, so don't think I have anything against Rarity. It's just her personality.

She is the element of generosity. The opposite of generosity is greed. Rarity is not a greedy mare. To be completely honest, probably not. However, there is no way to know for sure.

No. In Best Night Ever, it was shown that, while she likes a man for their looks and status, she'd rather be with someone who can also treat her with respect

If it came down to money or fashion sense, I feel like she'd choose fashion sense. But I could see her marrying for money, if it doesn't interfere with say, her friends at all

She almost did just that, remember? The whole reason she wanted to marry Blueblood in the first place was because he was a rich prince who had the added benefit of being a highly-prized bachelor. Same thing with Trenderhoof, except it was more for the fact that he was well-known. Though she did ultimately turn Blueblood down after the way he treated her, which I think was the guy's plan all along. I guess she can only take so much, before all the money in the world wouldn't make her put up with someone.

I love Rarity and I am certainly not calling her a gold digger, but she has the potential to become very shallow every once in a blue-moon.

I'm going to say for argument's sake that she wouldn't.

Rarity embodies the virtue of generosity, and marrying for power and wealth is a pretty greedy, self-centred move. I think she's probably thought about it and been tempted by it, but she's better than, not to mention classier, than that! :proud:

Nope. It was shown in The Best Night Ever that the pony she would marry has to treat her with kindness and respect. If she only cared about money and prestige, she would've married Prince Blueblood.

Saying that she would marry just because of money is grossly oversimplifying things, but I think it's safe to say that it would  potentially be a factor for her.  She would not marry a jerk simply for prestige and money, but I don't think it's inaccurate to say she would rather marry up as long as she liked the pony.

Hell no. Rarity would never do that. She would rather want someone who treats her with respect and genuinely loves her than someone who has a lot of money. She is the element of generosity after all, so marrying someone just for their money would definitely go against her element.

I think the reason she had a crush with them was because she saw them as charming and the guys of every girls' dream rather than with the intent to be a gold digger. Blue Blood was far from the stallion of her dreams, and Trenderhoof was interested in AJ

It would maybe be a factor, but not the sole basis for her decision. To call her a gold digger would be a disservice to the character as there is more than Rarity than that but she does aspire to climb the social ladder.

I would also point out her treatment of Hayseed Turnip Truck in Sweet & Elite.  I don't think she would marry just for money/ social position, but the stallion would definitely have to be socially presentable.  A diamond in the rough won't do for her

No, granted she had a huge blind spot about Bluebloods incredibly rude and inconsiderate behavior at first due to his status but Rarity eventually wised up and realized that he was a jerk and that he wasn't the prince charming she was hoping for. I could see Rarity possibly having a similar blind spot about another "high class" stallion enough to date him for a while but I can't see it getting far enough to where marriage is in the picture. Rarity does seem to want a stallion that appreciates the "finer things" and knows how to function in formal situations and that is all well and good but she does need to work a bit on this blind spot.

Possibly. Or at least, she's the most likely of the Mane Six to do it if the stallion treats her well and isn't a jerk like Prince Blueblood. Still I think that even if Rarity did marry for money or convenience, she would never stop designing and managing for herself. She loves to be popular, but she's pretty free-spirited as well.
