general media Miley Cyrus:Using the fandom to stay "relevant"

Honestly, I can't say I'm too thrilled. My problem with this is if she's mainly using the fandom to stay relevant, then it's not going to work. Not only the fandom and the show will become irrelevant in the next 10 years, but Miley will also be just as irrelevant around that time then. Given that she is a teen star and that so many people love teen stars, she would lose half of the appeal by the time she reaches her adult ages. Plus, her music will be irrelevant too, considering how much music changes so much with each new decade.

But I certainly don't hate her if she watches the show, oh no. If she likes the show, then good for her.  But I do wonder whether she really is a fan, or just using the fandom to fish out more new followers.

No offense, but isn't it kind of assuming and thinking the worst of her to suspect her of trying to use the fandom just because she likes the show? She's a young girl, it's not really that uncommon for them to like the show given that it was targeted towards young girls and their families at the start. I do not believe there is any significant evidence to even assume she is "faking" to get attention.

Can we perhaps see these posts that are the reason for suspecting she is using the brony fandom for attention? Considering how much negative attention the brony fandom gets, I find that very stupid of a plan. Besides people are acting like Cyrus is this terrible person, she is not Justin Beiber. Miley has been using her fame to support and promote LGBT rights, she also has participated in nearly 40 charities including feeding the homeless, AIDS research, and more. Miley has, on her own donated more money than the entire brony fandom combined. She has fought harder than many people her age for LGBT rights and she has a good point in that the only thing people criticize her about is the MTV music awards performance and she has a lot of good points there:

  • It was MTV not family programming. Hell half of their shows have to use the censor bleep every 30 seconds due to the material.
  • She is a legal adult.
  • We are only shocked because she was Hannah Montana. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Modanna all dress and behave outrageously and they are loved and adored.
  • People being offended is another example of inequality. We have men half naked on TV all the time behaving in lusty manners and no one does anything, but if a young girl dresses as she did, it's "indecent" even when it's on MTV. MTV hosted the Osbournes for God's sake.

People need to let go of the fact that she was Hannah Montana. It was nearly 5 years ago and she really isn't doing anything wrong. If anything she is teaching girls her age that they don't need to be ashamed of their bodies, which society totally does.

If she's a brony, she's a brony. The only thing I'm concerned of is if she's just using this to grow her..."fanbase". I honestly don't like Miley anymore, but hey, that's my opinion.

I'm not offended. :S

In spite of what I have said, I'm not saying that Miley is a horrible person. As a matter of fact, I normally don't care for her. But of course, I'm not yearning for that day where she returns to her Hannah Montana self. Heck, I wasn't even aware of all of the good things that Miley has done. I mean, good for her if she donates to charity and fights against anti-LGBT communities, but I don't find that a big surprise. Maybe it's just me who thinks that way. But of course, I'm not saying that her actions to manipulate the fandom into getting more followers is the worst thing she has done. I just think it could be better.

Maybe I'm just not good at these sort of discussions. You certainly know more than what I do.

meh.
I don't really care at all.

I don't think the brony fandom will help anybody become relevant at all though, thats dumb.

My thoughts exactly. I don't really see what people have against her.

Buuuuuuut I really don't think she is watching the show. Maybe she has seen a few episodes but I think it's just her wanting to feel different and cool somehow.

Let Miley have her cake. If she truly enjoys FiM who am I to stop or hate her for it?

Yes its been beaten to death, but the theme remains true: Love and tolerate, even those you may find insufferable.

It's all fine and good, my only thought is really: what if she just legitimately likes the show? Why are people surprised by this or acting like it's a publicity stunt?

I wouldn't judge her too harshly, I don't know her on a personal level so I wouldn't know if she's doing this for attention or if she genuinely likes the show and whatnot. On one hand she's "appealing" to the Bronies, on the other she's hurting her image even more to her non-Brony fans, (if they dislike Bronies, which they most likely do). People can like whatever they want, doesn't matter your background, fame, whatever. There are a lot of famous people that like MLP, some of which could be considered "weird" in their own respect: Skrillex, a member of Cannibal Corpse, Weird Al Yankovic, Lady Gaga, Lindsey Stirling, Robert Downey Jr., etc. I would like to take this as proof that MLP can appeal to anyone, regardless of who you may be.

Forget Miley Cyrus, do you know which member of Cannibal Corpse likes MLP?
