spoiler Pie Family Discussion

So with Hearthbreakers airing, we finally get a look into the much speculated Pie family.  So what did you think about them? Who was your favorite? What did you like or dislike about them? Would you like to see them return? Do you think Maud or Limestone is the oldest child?

Talk Pie people! (-20 points for the first person to start listing digits of Pi)

I liked them but one thing is still rattling around in my brain

MARBLE AND PINKIE PIE ARE TWINS!!!!! I mean holy cow I though

Fluttershy and her brother

had the best chance of that, not Pinkie and one of her siblings!

I was actually most interested in Pinkie's parents given there more religious accent as well as the way they got married.  Not to say Marble or Limestone weren't fun but we rarely get to see any of the Mane 6's parents doing anything or getting as much focus as these two have.

I definitely would like to see them return!

Igneous Rock and Cloudy Quartz: It was hilarious hearing them interacting with Granny Smith, they are all old fashioned just in a bit of a different way from each other.

Maud Pie: Good to see her again, I loved her ever since she was first introduced last season.

Marble Pie: She is quite adorable actually, I hear a lot of comparisons to Fluttershy and I can see them but she also came off as a female Big Mac to me.

Limestone Pie: I wonder where all that anger comes from? Probably an interesting story behind all of that,

Honestly I always thought Limestone Pie was just an early rendering of Maud Pie (from The Cutie Mark Chronicles) and figured they just tweaked her appearance for Season 4. Now it turns out they're separate characters. But doesn't this mean that Maud Pie was effectively an asspull for Season 4?

I said "Look at that, Mac got himself a marefri.......Nevermind I just remembered they're related." Man, I was actually expecting either Limestone to say everyone's an a-hole or some pony, any pony yell "WILL YOU CHILL OUT ALREADY?!" But neither happened, and she did chill out, a small bit.

I rather enjoyed finally seeing what they were like in Hearthbreakers and how they interacted with the Apples.

Such as seeing Maud again and finally learning the names of Pinkie's other sisters.

I was most interested in seeing this episode because of the Pie family.   This episode was interesting, I felt like some things seemed off-kilter, but wasn't awful by any means.

I do like the contrast of Pinkie's sister and how they interact with her.  Ever since I got to enjoy Maud's deadpan character in her first appearance I was curious to know what Pinkie's other sisters were like.

Limestone - so salty, such a gilda  I honestly thought she was like the "dominant" alpha of the whole family.  Seriously, I was like you are very upfront and matter of fact of establishing your self and your role on this family farm. And a bit aggressive.  I could've mistaken her as "head of house-hold" type of character with the way she was presenting herself at times.  Also, dat evil smile.

Marble - Omc, she's even more shier than Fluttershy from her first appearance!! That's saying something!  I loved Fluttershy's shy demeanor from her original introduction so I easily ended up loving Marble.  Granted, we learn very little about her.  She's adorably cute and shy and seems to have expressed an interest in Big Mac (I DEMAND BIGMARBLE/MARBLEMAC SHIPPING THIS INSTANT!!!)  Hmm, reading into Pinkie's original comment, I guess this would make them fraternal twins.  I guess Marble might be a possibility of what Pinkie could've been if Pinkie had never seen Dash's Sonic Rainboom in the first place, greatly introverted and shy.  Granted, nothing really supports.  Still love Marble

Maud - Great to see her again.  She's been working on her inner Sherlockian and trolling act hasn't she.

Transcript: Maud Pie: [deadpan] I'm pushing as hard as I can too.  - I sense lies :P  - Still a great treat to see Maud again.

Now Pinkie's parents threw me for a strange loop.  I guess because I'm rather focused on how they reacted when they found the farm all decorated when they woke up to AJ's surprise on Hearth's Warming eve.  This is the focal point of something that is probably bugging me so I'm gong to type about it (but I'm not going super in-depth).  Igneous Rock & Cloudy Quartz, specifically their reaction at the decorated rock farm (actually no, looking back at the scene, it seems it's just Igneous I'm really focusing on.  Cloudy Quartz seems to have a concerned, but not annoyed/angered look with her face).  2, things,

1. Igneous Rock doesn't blame AJ for messing up the farm/breaking Pie family traditional values - he accuses Pinkie Pie.  At least he has enough self-restraint to not accuse the 'guests' as being the problem and being 'foreigners for interloping' on their tradition.  But I was just surprised by this.  You're accusing Pinkie of all of this?  How out of touch are you with your daughter is what I would ask? I almost get the feeling she left the farm a rather long time ago and I'm surprised that Igneous would think that Pinkie would not like the (uh? urbanized?)  Apple family way of celebrating Hearth's warming.  Pinkie is very sociable and friendly to get along with practically everypony she meets.  This can go on to something else, but I'll just end here saying I feel that I wouldn't really expect this of Igneous considering he got first-hoof experience of seeing how unique and sociable Pinkie is at the party she held when she first got her cutie mark.  Unless the party really didn't seem like it "broke" any Pie family traditions (I'd be skeptical about that). I just think Igneous would understand that Pinkie does things differently by now.

2. In all that ranting, I still find Igneous to have been, not even all that mad about the change of the farm. He seriously didn't come off as 'that mad' (sure angry, but didn't seem like THAT angry) in comparison to his other daughter Limestone.  See that alpha-mare dominance just introduced herself right then and there.  Honestly, it seemed like only Limestone was the one freaking out the most and Igneous seemed partially annoyed.  Maude and Marble seemed rather neutral on the matter and Cloudy seemed surprised to me, but not scared by things.

Igneous and Cloudy are nice, I just think Igneous acting like that way towards Pinkie seemed out of character for him imo. (Even though, there has been very little introduced to us about him).  I was also amused how he addressed Granny Smith on first introduction with asking her the question about how that 'can't be your real name?'' Because seriously when you think about how 'Granny Smith' would've been an awkward name when she was still a young foal and mare.  It makes sense only after she's hit senior status.

They had to have made Pinkie a twin to stop the speculation that she was adopted. She is the only one in the whole family that isn't grey, and has curly hair. Also, she seems to be the only one who left the farm. It's like she's the black sheep of the family, only she is a pink pony.

Maud and Pinkie are the only two not named after rocks. Which may not be as odd as their last name being Pie. Pinkie seems to be the only one into sweets, Pie works perfectly as her last name. It would seem like their last name would be Rocks. Pinkie Rocks would be a good name too. The Apple family grow apples on Sweet Apple acres, and all their names are related to apples. The Pie family have a rock farm, and most of their names are rock related, where does Pie come from?

About Limestone, being the oldest, she probably feels a lot of pressure to run the farm, and please her parents, and may even be resentful that she has to stay there and take care of the farm, and the parents, while her siblings have less responsibility. Who's to say that AJ might feel the same pressure to please her parents, if they were still around? Everypony needs to back the hell off of Limestone!! She's doing the best she can, and running shit like a boss! I don't see anypony else that cares as much about keeping the farm running as she does. Pinkie left to sell cake, Maud is always going away to study rocks, which may be helpful, but dose'nt get the work done! Marble isn't going to take charge! For Celestia s sake, the parents are old! They don't need to be out in the field doing hard labor!

I loved Maud's Sherlock moment! I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw it as an homage to the great consulting detective. It was downright adorable when Maud and Applebloom actually began bonding over having similar dreams. Applebloom dreamed she was an apple, while Maud dreamed she was a rock. Maud even let Applebloom pet and feed Boulder! Awww!

Ah ok, is it weird I thought Limestone was the youngest since she's so small?

Not necessarily. I thought Limestone was the second born since Maud was off at college and Pinkie said Marble was the baby of the group as well as being her twin (I still can't get over that!)

So maybe this is stating the obvious and perhaps it has already been noted somewhere on the boards. But does anyone think the name Maud Pie was purposely chosen because it is so close to sounding like mud pie? And mud pies obviously come from playing in the dirt with rocks, etc? That has always struck me as an interesting choice of name considering the family background.

I think Maud Pie was chosen exactly for that reason it was a play on words as far her name is concerned.

The Pie family was interesting with their rock based traditions, but I liked Limestone the best aside from Maud because she was not putting up with the crap from outsiders.

Marble barely said anything, but I found the parents to unique in their puritanical ways.
