Issues I had with the Season Finale

I LOVED the episodes, however, the only thing I didn't liked about it has nothing really to do with the show, it was the those little quirks with Tori Spelling in between commercials, those were just painful to watch, even seeing Twilight with her didn't make things better.

And THAT'S saying something!

I know that everybody absolutely adored the episode, and I personally also thought it was amazing, but a few things struck me as not up to par with the episode. I watched it with three other Brony friends and they seemed to agree with me so I thought I'd share it here and see what response I get.

First of all, I'd like to state that I did love it. The songs were amazing, as well as the humor and the fight scene. Pinkie was hilarous and really kept the jokes rolling in.

Back on topic to the negative side, I thought the ending went way faster then it should have.

  • The entire episode was building up and building up to that one single moment where she had complete control, then all the sudden, the elements were out of reach, Celestia had been cornered, Canterlot was in rune, and the Mane 6 were helpless, the entire thing was just fixed in a few seconds. All done. It seemed like a cop out to me, and the only other time I was upset about the ending such an episode was when they teleported out of the woods at the end of "Dragon Quest".
  • The way they introduced the new creatures was a little over speed too. All the ponies seemed to know what they were, but they were introduced to have unbelievable power and introduced in a snap. I know all the other monsters in the past have been introduced like this (timberwolves, manticore, ice-spirit-things, etc.) but this is the first time it's disturbed me.
  • The show producers seem to be gearing allot of their show toward the Brony audience now, such as the bachelor party joke, and the overall dark atmosphere of the episode. This is what caused many of the fans to fangasm, but could be a bad thing in the long run. The ironic target audience of the show is one of the mane things that have caused the fans to develop in such a loving and tolerant way and if the show began to be geared toward the older viewers, it really wouldn't be the same show anymore.
  • Also the Sonic Rainboom was really upsetting to me. Whenever I usually see the Sonic Rainboom performed on the show, it always channels a decent amount of emotion through my body, but the "on demand" aspect and lack of buildup killed the mood for me, especially how Rainbow Dash did it while ascending, not even descending, and the animation on it seemed more poor then on the other times it happened.
  • While this isn't really related to the show, I found Tori Spelling's (the one who queued the commercials every break) acting to be more then bad. Especially the Rarity scene, if anypony can find a link to that thank you Chigens.

Link provided by Chigens, skip to 0:25 for the worst part,

  • As something final to say, Luna didn't seem to give a buck. Throughout the entire episode, all the other bronies watching with me were saying "where's luna" and similar stuff to the point where I honestly thought she was going to be the one to come and save the day.

That aside, when Vinyl Scratch showed up, every Brony in the room literally stood up and began to cheer.

Finally, I have found a brony who agrees with me. For me it was the Disney feel of it was all.

This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree?

I think your point 4 and 5 are very true.

also one thing I do not like about two part episodes is the 'previously' start to the second episode.

it makes sense when split over a week, but when the two are shown back to back it just wastes over a minute of run time.

I feel that time could have been better used on story, then an edited trimmed version with the 'previously' thing added to the start could be used in reruns

personally I would prefer 'hour' long special episodes to split ones

Here is Tori Spelling if you guys want to get mad:

That Rarity part is at like 28 seconds btw.

She was the biggest problem with the Season Finale.

Well I guess the only thing good that came out of that was the human to pony proportion. Even Spike turned out to be bigger than I thought he would be.

I wish we'd seen Shining Armor in an earlier episode so we got to know him a bit more before the wedding episode.

Also, I would have liked to see more of Luna besides the two quick scenes she was in.

I raged so hard when Celestia didn't apologize to twilight for ignoring her judgement in the end of the first part. She did that in the first episode too! Be more polite, Celestia!

I loved the episode, but I completly agree with you. Everything about the episode built upon each other, quite a good plot overall, however it seemed the climax was over in a matter of seconds. Despite the episode legitimately being very good, even in the synctube party with over 40 hyped up, hardcore bronys, I couldn't help to think in the back of my mind, "So.. That's it..".

The creatures I feel weren't a problem really. They really didn't have anything to do with the plot other then to antagonize the situation, so I didn't really have a problem with them "knowing how they worked". I thought it the part with Pinkie ("Ive seen better") was pretty funny, and was an original idea overall.

As for statement #3, I really have no comment for, only time will tell, I suppose...

Completely agreed on the Sonic Rainboom. Remeber in season 1 when Dashie first did the Sonic Rainboom, sure we all do (easily one my favorite parts in the series). the shock of Dashie saving Rarity triggered it. Here we are presented with Dashie simply flying and basically making it look easy. I understand that with all the story there was really no time to fit it in, but at least have us see Dash struggling a little bit.

Remember the no matter how you want to look at it, the audiance is kids, so in all fairness, the acting didn't have to be spot on for Tori. :P

If anypony is still reading, don't get me wrong, I absoulty loved the episode! By this point, I'm litterally looking for parts I thought were off! xD

That Sonic Rainboom WAS disappointing. It at first seemed like a HUGE deal, and suddenly she does it with no problem. Yeah, I know she does stuff like flexing her wings, but... it just doesn't seem like as much of a huge deal.

And the few appearances by Luna did make me very happy as she is one of my favorite characters, but I really wish she'd have had more airtime.

Derpy's eyes weren't derped!

I saw here twice with Derped eyes. There was one part (during the final wedding) where her eyes changed position every blink.

I do agree that the story was very rushed. Everything happened so fast; Should of been paced slower with maybe an extra 1-2 episode installments.

I agree about the ending being too Deus ex machima but I did like the dark atmoshpere and the changeling introduction I didn't really feel it rushed and the rainboom in the end(probably because I am not a big fun of rd and rainbooms anyway :P) so I didn't care.

But this Torrie whatever her name. I am glad I didn't watch it live and missed her. Actually I didn't reallly need to learn about her at all :P

AND WHAT BLASPHEMY IS THIS ABOUT ME IN 2:31 OF THAT VIDEO

The movie would most likely have MUCH higher standards than the Season Finale, so they would really need some time to think up a story with this one :P. Still, I long for a movie, but unfortunately I'd look like a fool trying to see what would be a little kids film. Lets hope it would be around the PG boundaries when it comes to rating. Then the movie would look 'manlier' so to speak :P.

Welcome to saturday animation. Most shows work that way. I mean the buildup already took up a lot of time, so there wasnt time to make a whole "take back canterlot" thing. It would have been epic, but un realistic.

The way they introduced the new creatures was a little over speed too. All the ponies seemed to know what they were, but they were introduced to have unbelievable power and introduced in a snap. I know all the other monsters in the past have been introduced like this (timberwolves, manticore, ice-spirit-things, etc.) but this is the first time it's disturbed me.

Actually only Candance knew what they were. Because she was replaced with by them.

I quote Shining Armor

"A threat has been made against Canterlot but we dont know by who"

The show producers seem to be gearing allot of their show toward the Brony audience now, such as the bachelor party joke, and the overall dark atmosphere of the episode. I kinda agree with you here, A nod to the fans are awesome. But we cant give us COMPLETE control. Or it will change, might be for the worse, or could be for the better.

Also the Sonic Rainboom was really upsetting to me.

Hmm, I did not have a problem with it. After Dashie has done it twice, shes obviously figured out how to do it on demand.

Yeah so did I. That quote she made "Did I miss anything?" Made me facehoof.

That aside, when Vinyl Scratch showed up, every Brony in the room literally stood up and began to cheer.

Quite.

I basically agree. I just didn't let it bother me with the abruptness because I watch One Piece and am not a good judge of such things. One Piece can turn a literal 15 minute fight scene into months of 22 minute episodes. XD I thought it was a bit rushed though, in anycase, though I did like the way it wrapped up. Also, watching it a second time I think I appreciated it more, both in good structuring ("love love love") and in my analysis of the flaws. Anyway, I did like it oh so much.

But this morning I realized...

SEASON 3 ISN'T HERE YET. WAT DO.

Here is Tori Spelling if you guys want to get mad:

I was in the car with my mom and a commercial for the wedding came on over the radio, and she turned it up in time for me to hear that this lady was gonna be hosting. I said that I didn't recognize her, but probably would once I started watching.

STILL NO CLUE.

I don't mean anything rude by this but who the buck is she? Does she always act this... way, or is it because it's a kids show? Not just in MLP, but I hate slack-off acting in kids shows. *sigh of a pirate*

However, the Fluttershy part made me laugh.

I thought it was too dark for a my little pony episode. I dunno, I liked it a lot but I like bright and happy episodes better. Im not a brony and I felt like it was supposed to be more for bronys. The changling queen thing scared me XD

It's admittedly tough, however, to interact convincingly with what is really empty space. My guess is that they didn't do to many takes. I have no idea how good an actress Tori Spelling is in general, though.
