I was thinking at first that she would be a main character, then after seeing the comments about her being a recurring character, I'm thinking that also sounds equally (no pun intended) possible. So I'm wondering how they'll play this. I do agree with the concerns about them having a mane character at this point.

 

I have confidence that the writers could do at least a decent job, but I understand the concern since lots of shark jumping moments for shows have been when they introduce a new character later on to "keep the show fresh". If they give her a distinguishing personality that isn't abnoxious, then I think that could work. I know there are Discord comparisons, but the thing is, Discord's voice actor is higher profile than Starlight Glimmer's voice actress.

 

At this point, forget whether or not the movie will be the end, I'm more concerned about what they'll do with Starlight Glimmer.

I think the finale left things intentionally open ended. It could go a few different ways. Starlight could return to her old town to start things anew, she could move elsewhere in Equestria and occasionally write to Twilight as her student, she could remain in Ponyville as a valence electron to the mane cast, much like Discord, or she could become a mane cast member proper.

 

I think a new mane seven with her could work, but it all comes down to writing quality. If the writing isn't solid then even the best of plot points can't work, and that would be especially true here, but it is possible to write Starlight into the mane cast and make it work, and not just for the notion of symmetry between Earth Ponies, Pegasi and Unicorns.

 

I don't think, even in the last scenario, that she will become recognized as part of Twilight's council by the cutie map, and get her own throne, at least not for the time being. Perhaps it can work out that way, but at the end of a season of buildup. That doesn't mean she can't get involved in adventures with the mane six though. I get that everypony, myself included, is attached to the mane six and the group dynamic they have, and introducing another character to it can shake things up in an unknown way.

 

However, I also think it can work just fine in the long run. A new cast member could be just what the show needs to keep things fresh, and while in that case she may steal the spotlight in the short term, in the long term she would just end up being another cast member, and we would still have episodes about the original cast. I'm not against it, as long as it doesn't feel forced or contrived. Only time will tell what will happen though, so I plan on crossing the bridge we get when we get to it.

 I really don't know at this point. Many are saying that she will just be a recurring character but they really put Starlight in the forefront at the end. So for me it is a bit more blurry. If she doesn't get put into the mane cast, then I think we will be seeing a lot of her still. If she happens to be a recurring character, I have a feeling she will recur more often than most.

No, probably not. She may become an apprentice to Celestia or Luna though, possibly. She is quite skilled with magic, as her powers matched up equally so against Twilights, which is a big thing. Though she's most likely going to hang around with the six or pop in some episodes, sadly.

Personality-wise, I don't see what she stands to bring to the table on top of the other characters... But, what do I know? I not the leader of a massive company. Alas...

I hope not.  It's way to late in the game for them to add another mane character into the cast.

She would most likely be another Discord and be a recurring character and have a similar character arch in learning to be a better person and understand friendship after reforming from evil to good.  Heck from the ending of the episode I have a feeling it is going to be similar to Sunset Shimmer's character arch in Rainbow Rocks.

This episode made me like her more as a character and I can see she is an interesting character, but I don't want her to make too many appearances in season 6, as having both her and Discord's arches going on at the same time seems a bit redundant in my opinion.  Plus I don't want to see her get in the way of screentime and development for any of the mane 6 next season.

I am fine with this as long as it doesn't lead to any of the mane 6 getting season 5 Fluttershy treatment or even season 3 Rarity treatment.

It would be strange to have another character in general, and plus there are only six elements of harmony (if they make a seventh I'm leaving the fandom, LOL), it would seem like there will be some discord-like episodes and also some episodes of Starlight getting along with the mane six or even discord (that would be interesting). Also when Twilight said that she has 7 new friends, she obviously meant Spike as well as them. Personally, I'm looking forward to a couple Starlight episodes, and also very excited for what the priemere has in store for us.

On a serious note, seriously? She's playing lead? why? Unless they are just going to have her as more of a support character that reoccurs like Discord.  Then I would be okay with the latter.  I guess I can't win with this? Can't exactly have that powerful of a unicorn go be a loose cannon all over again.

I do not feel she would work as a main character, for her appearence sake alone, her voloring is too much like Twilight's, she would need to be like Green or something to stand out or something

 

An apprentice will be fun. But kind of missed opportinity not making Starlight a stallion if Starlight is going to be a reoccuring character and we have barely any sinificant stallion characters. A male character would have giving the set-up a diffenrent dynamic than we have seen before.

That would be really interesting to see. I want it mainly because I want the balance restored of having 2 Unicorns, 2 Earth Ponies and 2 Pegasi. That along with 1 Alicorn seems perfect. I guess Sunset Shimmer has been officially confirmed non-canon though and Starlight is the new Sunset. That's too bad. I always wanted her to be the seventh member and for her to get the Element of Forgiveness. But hey Starlight Glimmer works too.

Well, if the ending of the episode does mean that Mane 7 is a thing, then that would be a pretty big plot event, meaning that they wouldn't reveal it until the episode aired, and this would include lying about the amount of mane characters in the movie. After all, why would they spoil something like that by saying that it was about the Mane 7?
