Opinions on CollegeHumor's video about us?

I remember it, all right. And it was just as I predicted. The "humor" there is similar to Encyclopedia Dramatica's: low-brow, cheap, stereotypical idiocy. There's nothing inherently intelligent or funny about it at all.

They didn't have Twilight's or Pinkie's cutie marks. I feel like this needed to mentioned.

As a lot of people have said, I really don't mind it, as it does make the fandom seem a little bad, I know a lot of people from the MLP fandom aren't like this.

That video is one of the funniest things I have seen in my life. If it offends you then simmer down because CollegeHumor doesn't take it seriously either, its comedy and this particular type is just more raunchy than other more subtle or witty kinds.

If you want something really insulting, don't go further than the "infamous Law & Order episode".

I have never heard of a Law and Order episode on Pony but are you talking about the CSI one on furries?

Its funny, hell given how much media love bronies are getting,  we should just roll and laugh at what they think we are and we knowing what we really are but the hit on the fanfic is also true a bit on some lines.

Just because they're jokes doesn't mean they're good jokes. There are a million ways to make a joke work without having to pander to the lowest common denominator.

"Who's On First?" works just as well now as sixty years ago because the comedy relies on timing, wit, chemistry, and the pacing; you knew they were coming, but they're multilayered, so they become timeless.

The Looney Toons are gag-based, but the majority work so well, because the writers spent so much time perfecting the comedy; many of them then are used in several shows today.

College Humor's stereotypical jokes about bronies and the fandom can be applied to any other technological-savvy fandom and were dated before they were published.

This right here. The fact that they had to resort to the typical stereotypes about us in order to make a supposed joke, to me, that shows that they don't know how to properly make a joke about us that is actually humorous. Relying on stereotypes doesn't always equate to humor. In this case, I found it to be kinda pathetic.

Is that their worst video? What happens there?

No, it's not from College Humor. It's from NBC and it even led to a new moral panic.

It's a parody, so of course it'll use stereotypes. That being said, I sincerely hope people do not get so mad that they stop watching CollegeHumor who actually do a lot of good. If you've paid attention to them over the years, college humor has regularly attacked big businesses such as cable companies, they've also helped raise awareness about net neutrality and advocated for LGBT rights. CollegeHumor while in the parody making business actually has a lot of fans in the groups of people they regularly parody such as bronies. They're actually a very great company.

Seems pretty accurate to me. That "I wish I could appreciate how he's challenging gender stereotypes" line was spot-on.

The age old saying: stereotypes are based upon some truth remains true. While the video is an extreme, let's not pretend that bronies like that don't exist. While they don't make up the majority, they do exist. I mean bronies get idiots just like any other fandom, and the same idiots are the ones who will speak to cameras and tell them the thing they love most about the show is the porn, not realizing it's not something you want to brag about.

It's funny, but it does slam the fandom a little. If they had kept the sexual things out of it, I would be able to respect it. As it is, it's still funny, but it does feel like a bit of a low blow.

Does or does not this fandom insist that sexualizing the ponies is normal and acceptable? You can't have it both ways.

I think Daring_Do more or less hit the nail on the head. We have a HUGE chunk of the fandom that partake in it, and another huge chunk that says we should tolerate it and not ridicule it. So naturally, yeah, you really can't have it both ways. I am fine with the porn, I don't view it, but I accept it's there. So I also accept the negative connotations that will come with it. You can't accept it but still be shocked that people view it negatively.

If you want something really insulting, don't go further than the "infamous Law & Order episode".

Is that their worst video? What happens there?

I'm assuming he is talking about Gamergate episode of Law and Order: SVU. It's basically them trying to cash in on the whole "women in gaming" dispute going on online, but the episode is sooooooooooooooo inaccurate and gimmicky that no one can take it seriously. For starters it makes it out to be like the issue is women are being RAPED for playing games which is not what is happening at all. And it parodies Anita Sarkeesian, but it makes her out to be like this saint who is just some honest girl trying to make women in gaming a thing, when in reality, Anita Sarkeesian has been caught lying numerous times and isn't even a real feminist, she uses propaganda for marketing and making money.

The whole sexualization of ponies grosses me out, and so does the violence with ponies. But my reason is a little developed. I find the show to be an innocent getaway from the real world, and when you have people who corrupt it, they can cause a lot of negative results, and the scarring of some people who enjoy the show for what it stands for purely

I'm going to take an objective stance here and try to explain the other side and see if you maybe can see what I'm getting at. I'll try and be polite and collected about it because I want you to still be able to feel you can like the show how you like it and not feel criticized for that.

I can't help but notice you said "corrupt" implying that the violence and sexualization is ruining the show. Well for starters, I can honestly say that you ALWAYS have the option to not view that content (within reason, I know some stuff slips between the cracks). However can I offer another perspective on the mature content that you may not have considered? The mature content CAN be a means to the same goals. Now I know a lot of people are thinking "What the hell are you talking about, Key?" Well allow me to use an example from a fanfiction if I may that I wrote a long time ago. A friend of mine explained why he liked it so much and it got me thinking:

In the story there is a war, a battle that destroys almost all of Equestria. The characters have developed and changed by this war, but their changes showcase their virtues. Twilight becomes a leader who accepts that sometimes she will have to make choices that will not  make her popular, but that they must be made for the good of all. She accepts that is the fate of a leader.

Rainbow Dash learns that loyalty goes further than she ever thought. She is willing to fight for something she believes in, and despite wanting to give up so many times, she continues to live and overcomes the desire to end it all and endure. She realizes that arrogance had lead her astray and it takes another individual to show her that belief can be strong enough to move someone to do amazing things.

Almost all the characters have a part of realization like this, but think about it: it's all the same lessons that the show teaches, but applied to a more adult setting. Applied in a way that adults will see them and go "ooooooh". Violence is unnatural sure, but it sadly is a part of the adult world and stories of violence can be used to apply a lesson about how a better way is necessary.

All I ask is not to look at those kinds of things with a negative perspective thinking they are "ruining the show" but instead to look at them with the thought of them bringing these lessons and morals to a more mature setting that makes it more accessible to some. Like to be real: I don't find the lessons in the show realistic a lot of the time because it's a fantasy world where everything is virtually perfect in comparison to the real world. So mature stories that bring out the virtues of the show to an adult setting I feel are more up my alley.

Just because they're jokes doesn't mean they're good jokes. There are a million ways to make a joke work without having to pander to the lowest common denominator.

Well, we sometimes have to accept that others have a different sense of humor than us. Some people like to laugh at themselves and who are we to say their form of what they find funny is lessor than ours? It's a matter of taste, and at the end of the day, taste is subjective so there is no "wrong" way to do it.

@Key Sharkz is right. The episode also got both gamers and developers angry. It was one big false accusation based on lies.

I think we should go to the debate pit if we talk more about the episode and GG in general.

Honestly? I found it hilarious!

Sure, it may be mis-portaying a lot of us bronies (Though I'm 100% certain bronies depicted in the video do exist..), But I still find it funny xD

In fact, I'm open to a lot of videos that may show hate and/or negative humor towards bronies.. Because i don't get offended easily :P

and I'm open-minded so i can still think in their mindset and laugh at stuff even though it defies my values  ... Yeah I'm weird..

But yeah, I found that very funny, well animated, and has good voice acting too ;)

I wasn't personally offended by it, but I knew that a lot of bronies would be. That made me a little mad at CollegeHumor for their assumptions.

Edit: I did not know that some people at CollegeHumor were bronies... I guess that makes the video a little less offensive, seeing as they surely agreed to create it as a parody of themselves.

Also, it appears I was in a bad mood when I left this original post... :P

I wasn't personally offended by it, but I knew that a lot of bronies would be. That made me a little mad at CollegeHumor for their crazy, stupid, and incorrect assumptions as to what this unusual fanfom is like. I think they just don't understand; they have to jump to conclusions because, since they aren't in the MLP fandom, they cannot comprehend how different most bronies really are to the ones usually depicted. No offence to them, I guess, they just should have looked more into the fandom before they decided to create that video.

Actually... That's not it at all. Some of collegehumor's employees are bronies. It's not that they "don't understand" it's that it's satire. It's meant to be a joke. Jokes aren't meant to be accurate.

Unless it's a new one, it's been out for a while, and I honestly wasn't bothered by the video.  College Humor used to be funny, emphasis on "used."

Their gags are kinda pathetic as of late.  I had to stop going to their site after clicking on one of the links that was supposedly on their site, but lead to a rather racy site that gave my computer malware.

Its not that i dislike people making parodies. I just find Collegehumor to be stupid and bad in general. I've categorized it as the typical "Click baits and as a more of a job to upload quantity for cash"
