If you had to come up with an element for starlight glimmer...

So, here's a question: if you had to come up with another element of harmony to give starlight glimmer, what would you choose? Sunset shimmer's element seems to be empathy (based on the crew's statements and her actions in FG), but Starlight is a completely different character, personality wise, from sunset.


So what element would you come up with to give her? Would you try and still keep it tied to friendship like the others? Or possibly would you even try to come up with a successor group of elements for the mane six/seven based on just normal virtues and give her something like that?

Im just gonna go the extreme uncreative way and simply choose Element of Equality, or maybe Element of Tolerance or Element of Acceptance or something.

Hmm, that might be a little tricky. I might say Element of Altruism, though that might be a pretty big word for a children's show. Failing that, maybe Element of Determination?

We only know of her bad traits at this point and not her strengths, so I can't really say. I'll just take the Element of Courage from the fake episode list (which funny enough, had always been my idea for Sunset Shimmer).

 

I don't really want her to get an element per say, it destroys the continuity of having just six.

Empathy as her redemption is basically just the same thing as Sunset Shimmers.

Even down to Twilight giving her a similar friendship speech in which her friends will help teach her friendship.

Kind of true there; Starlight has ZERO positive traits shown so far; thinking about it, honestly there's nothing likeable about her except "she used to be evil and had a friend leave her" XD

Reminds me of EQG sunset shimmer to be honest given how unlikeable she was there too. (and also reminds me of flim flam philosophy's take on her )

Though, thinking about it, given that the EOH are in the tree again, could always come up with other macguffins for the mane six in their place, and giving one to starlight. I mean, they have Random EOH magic in Equestria girls without the EOH.

Well, let’s see. So she’s this super duper awesome pony that endured through it all, trained so hard she became a Kami level threat, and brushed it all aside as a derp when proven wrong. I’d go with perseverance. It’s positive, it sounds sophisticated, and it makes me feel bad. Yup, perseverance it is! Yeah, the only thing I can see so far is that she is very driven to get what she wants. Which can be both a good thing and a bad thing.

Thinking about all of these Elements (Resolve, wisdom, ect.) they don't really apply to FRIENDSHIP, y'know? Those are more innate virtues of a good person than a good FRIEND.

 

Like, if Starlight were to get wisdom or resolve, You probably would want to give the other 6 elements that aren't about being a friend too.
Which actually I think would be kind of cool, if they had the mane six grow a bit and take on another mantle in regards to the world around them and not just being personal friends, but I doubt will happen

but If one had to assign a random "good" element/virtue to the other 6 if we're giving starlight an element...

No offense, but her being the Element of Determination, or Perseverance, or Bravery or whatever just doesn't make any sense. The Elements of Harmony constitute what makes a friendship work. Honesty, Loyalty, Kindness, Generosity, Laughter, and even Empathy are all integral parts of a friendship, but none of the ones mentioned earlier have much to do with it. Maybe determination and perseverance to make a friendship last, but even so... that's grasping at straws a bit. I'm more satisfied with Starlight simply remaining a recurring side character like Discord instead of actually being a main character.

This precisely! Bravery doesn't have much to do with being a friend, and nor do most of the ideas mentioned here.

personally I think kindness's counterpart is Cruelty (its what discord tells fluttershy to be when he discords her), and I think anger would be the opposite of Laughter (since laughter is essentially "joy", and pinkie seemed more angry than in despair).

 

Magic's the hard one, eh? I think Solitude is the opposite of friendship, and I think the best counterpart to the magic of friendship would be a Pony arrogantly looking down on others as beneath them and holding themselves apart and above everyone else.

 

So arrogance/pride? Kind of like what Twilight was at the start of the series in the first episode.
