Has MLP helped you become a better person?

I'd suffer from stuff i overthink about. But the simple idea of ponies and a world where everything will be ok has always helped me overcome my problems, and to feel more friendly simply because it feels nice and they will be good to you if you do. I am just wondering if you feel the same and it has made the same connection with you

MLP hasn't directly helped me grown as a person but the experiences from being a fan of the show have kind of shaped me in more ways than one. I'd say my general optimism has somewhat stemmed from my first experiences with the show and talking to other fans.

 

I was at my edgy "everyone is terrible" phase when I first started watching the show. I really didn't like people and was letting myself become a bit of a social outcast. When everybody in the fandom was really nice to me and people in real life showed me support it kind of changed how I viewed people as a whole. It's funny how something people say leads to being a social outcast helped me escape from being one myself.

Not really, however it has encouraged me to at least try and stay positive while also being more friendly with others.

 

Been fairly hit or miss so far but I suppose trying is better than not trying!

Not at all. MLP has had almost no influence on my behavior or life in general. At best MLPForums has helped me to get better at debate since I tend to argue with people all the time on here.

I'd like to think so, but honestly, it hasn't. But, it has made me realize I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. It's also made me open myself up to new things and also be proud of the things I like, regardless of what the general public thinks. I'm very proud to be a brony.

Not really, my biigest changes had already happened and the leesons of this show where once I already learned myself. The only thing it helped with was to be more open with entertainment, that no matter for whom it was made it CAN always be good.

Yes. I'd say both directly and indirectly. Just watching the show makes me feel optimistic. But being a part of the fandom has changed me in a huge way.

 

As a kid, I didn't think for myself a lot. I was immature, self-centered, and a bully. Becoming a Brony sort of opened my eyes. It's done things that would have taken me years to realize on my own.

 

My biggest example being that before I became a Brony, I was extremely homophobic. Now, I can't imagine how I ever thought like that.

 

So yes. MLP has made me a much better person.

It did for a while but that was before the fandom got to me. The show inspired me with hope and got me to give people another chance but the fandom did well to beat that into a bloody pulp just barely pulsating with what life it has left. To say that the fandom has been a letdown would be quite the understatement.

 

People are rotten to the core but there are rare gems to be found scattered behind this heap of waste we call humanity. You must have a careful eye because making a mistake on who you call friend could cost you dearly.

Of course! I have a mental disability that hinders my focus and attention. Sometimes, I say or do things without even knowing I said it, meaning I'm quick to talk in a situation without really paying attention to what I'm saying.

 

MLP has taught me about overcoming obstacles in life (Hurricane Fluttershy), always showing the real you (The Maje Attraction) and learning to trust yourself and your instincts (A Canterlot Wedding)

Before MLP, I was a real asshole, bullying guys, being a shithead all the time. And the I realized how ponies were cool and nice to each other, and I started to act like them, always helping around and being friendly with people doing the best I can... So yeah, MLP saved my life, in fact.

Well, it did have a part to play most certainly. Probably the reason I live today. But it also indirectly helped me realize my dreams.

 

The show was on a bucket list of mine. I planned to commit suicide. I was a complete wreck at the time, emotionally. I felt as if I reached the end of my road because I was being bullied at the time (worse than I still am), and nobody actually would have cared if I died.

 

MLP had, in effect, cheered me up from the dumps. It's kind of like a sort of Zen. It is a happier show, and isn't the gloom called my life. It's still gloomy to me because of those few people that still bully me (weird how they can call me their friends... They really aren't but mere acquaintances to me. A real friend isn't like that. MLP taught me that).

 

However, I eventually realized that people cared, and I now I have a lunch table of good friends that never judge. The majority of them watch MLP, actually

 

It also helps that I found a purpose in life. That is to make the future a little bit brighter. This became my dream to develop software, to aid society in the advancement into a great future.

For me, MLP gave me a direction and focus on my creative side. It gave me something cute and enjoyable to work with. as for my toys they help me to relax when I need to ease off stress.

It has for me a little. It reminds me of ways to be a good friend through simple lessons that I otherwise could possibly forget in the fog of complicated relationships and cynicism.

Indirectly, it's given me thicker skin. I thought being a metalhead had a lot of hurtful criticism, inside and outside. But being a brony is the first thing I've had to really stand up and defend on my own, where even my friends and parents questioned it.

Well, maybe a little, though the morals of the show are consistent with my Christian values, so I would have come across many of them them at church anyways. I think it has done more to help me put social situations in context than actually change me. I've always preferred having only one or two close friends to a large group of friends, but now that I have a large group of friends that I met at church, I kind of draw parallels with the dynamic of the mane six and some of the situations they find themselves in. In my volunteering with kids, I also learned to apply lessons such as the one Fluttershy learned with the Breezies, as I found that being too much of a pushover isn't always best for the kids.

 

I like to think I don't actually need a girl's show about colourful anthropomorphic horses for moral guidance, especially since that's what I turn to God for, but I do think my experience with FiM has been more positive for me than negative. It probably hasn't changed me all that much, but it's not a bad influence on me either, aside from inspiring that one Rarity-esque episode I had at work that one time that I described in another thread.

It gave me the motivation to come back out of hiding and start rebuilding a new friends circle. It also reminded me that even in a real world where violence reigns and only war and greed recur, there is still a light in the darkness, and we can all gather around it and stay warm.

Well, now that you mention it, I think it has helped me cope even better with my move here to Houston that if I hadn't been watching. I really looked forward to the move, but I didn't want to leave my friends. Since the move, I've found it hard to make friends, mostly because I haven't had the chance. I think the show has kept me confident about making new friends here. That and it made me happy to see that The Cutie Map bashed Socialism (If Pinkie Pie is suspicious, you had better listen)

Yes, I think it is one of the things that made me a better person. It began some time after I left college.... I had low self-confidence and the situation in college left a nasty taste. And I was not the only student with the same problems (Dutch public colleges are infamous for keeping a demotivating culture). So I began my self-study in medical section and filled my free time with gaming, painting and watching Internet memes, which led me to the FiM series. Right now I'm more motivating and confident in myself than years ago.
