This looks interesting, but since there's no confirmation of the show doing something like this, I'll make more of a judgment when there's more info. Though it does say there will be another line of comics being tied to the guardians of harmony, so those will have a different feel from the current comics.

On an unrelated note, it looks like spike's getting a "normal spike in armor" toy too. This toyline actually seems to have alot more guy focus than the others XD

 

 

 

While the toys do look a bit silly to me, I imagine the designs being incorporated into the show looking awesome.

If the show decides to go this route, I am certainly excited.

I will have to admit, they've managed to make some REALLY crappy toys look good in show; Specifically, Midnight sparkle as a toy looks HORRIBLE. Like puke level. but in Friendship games, despite how much I hated that movie, I gotta admit, the design looked very well.

So they might manage to find a way to make the goofier toys look good in the comics and the show.

To be honest, I Always felt Dash's crystal armor was a poor man's version of her commander hurricane armor.
She looks so much better in that than the crystal armor; black just synergizes so well with her coloration. Its one reason her Zapp costume is so good looking.

 

On that note, I'd love to see a crystal wars timeline costume. Hell, If they're going with this more action focused theme for a Comic, how about having a comic where we get to see the crystal wars timeline going on with a full on warhammer 40k vibe of Unicorn mages throwing down with the umbrum with Steampunk back up?

Historically that always failed horribly though Transformers and GI joe both bombed hardcore when they did that, and they haven't tried to do a theatrical movie based on an existing cartoon since, outside of Equestria girls, which wasn't really a "true" theatrical movie really. So its highly possible they've learned from their mistakes in the 80s.

 

Actually, the 1986 Transformers movie is still considered to this very day to be the best Transformers-related movie by the fanbase (beating out ALL of the Michael Bay movies that have come after it, even though it changed the status quo way more than those movies did).  The only reason it didn't do well in theatres is because of the marketing.  When I was a kid, the only reason I even found out about it was because I watched a commercial for one of the new toys and at the very end of the commercial it said 'See the movie, now in theatres'.  I imagine the same happened to most kids back then, because I don't remember seeing a single commercial for the movie itself.

 

But that doesn't matter.  My point is, the majority of Hasbro movies have one thing in common.  They all introduce some sort of major status quo shift, usually to sell toys.  Why would Hasbro (a company that sells toys as its primary source of income) ignore this opportunity for marketing with a series that is still more/less at the peak of popularity?  They wouldn't.

 

I just think alot of people who don't believe this is a possibility for the FiM movie might be in for a big surprise.

We don't know for sure since we haven't seen it, but I doubt this will be a part of Season 6 considering the timing of the announcement and the fact that "Explore Equestria" has already been announced as a theme for Season 6.

 

As @Marimo said, the statement that these are based on scenes from the show doesn't specifically imply anything new; merely that they are inspired by scenes from previous episodes.

 

The overall look of the toyline, considering its tonal shift and alternate interpretations of the characters, looks more like a spinoff than anything. They already announced a comic series. If there's any other media, it's likely not to be a part of the main series.

Yeah I'm leaning to agree with you there. The only reason why I haven't changed the title is cause it says "might"

 

However they do have an opportunity to build up to guardians of harmony even if that isn't the theme this season. I'm thinking that might be closer to what may happen than a spin off series.

Hah, it'd be interesting if the show ended season 6 on a cliff hanger for the movie

Though, to be honest, I don't really think they will. The show staff don't really tend to do alot of multi-season story building, and I think hasbro would want S6 to stay self contained to avoid jeapordizing toy sales, yeah?

 

 

Got to be careful after all with so much riding on each season and their finales, you don't want to upset the little girls with a downer ending if the movie will be months off.

If we are going to take this kind of theme, I bet Rarity will be some kind of "Princess that has to be saved" rather than a fighter.

 If that happens, I WILL quit the show. RARITY IS DEFINATELY A FIGHTER AND NOT A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS! She got herself freed from the Diamond Dogs without needing any help. In fact, that episode was about HOW Rarity wasn't someone who needed to be saved. When Spike tried to kidnap her, she stood up to him. She was ready to save Spike from teenage dragons. She may be ladylike, but she is not weak. If they treat her like she's just a weak mare in need of help, I will not watch the show again.

Eh, I doubt it. They don't have any real special gear for Pinkie or Rainbow dash, yeah? Pinkie just has her party canon, and Dash isn't even in ARMOR, just generic flight goggles.

The only one of the mane six with a special getup is twilight.

If they were going to go magical girl route, they'd need to reintroduce the elements of harmony or some sort of link to that, and I don't see them doing that anytime soon based on how low key they were in S5 and trying to distance themselves from magical super powers.

 

I COULD see them trying to give spike a trinket to let him turn into an adult, but that'd be more a spike only item IMO.

 

 

A magical girl setup would probably work better with the EQG franchise better anyways, and the only characters with bling or special designs there are Twilight and Sunset shimmer, and we've seen the toys they have designed for that next movie.
