spoiler Season 6 Opener wasn't good. Worse than Season 4's

Been reading that there are people  who didn't like this opener. I am in that area too. I didn't hate Starlight, Sunburst or Flurry Heart, in fact I had no issues with them at all and I don't even like Starlight. This opener was  just simply boring like the season 4 opener. Many people give the season 3 opener crap? Really? At least you are getting Sombra. I am not saying we need to have a villain for every opener, but can we at least make it interesting. This opener juggles too much.

Starlight and her issues with Sunburst

Twilight and her wanting to train Starlight while dealing with becoming an aunt

The crystal heart breaking

Flurry Heart unintentionally causing problems

Spike talking about the defeat of Sombra, which too me was filler.

The other Mane 6 members, once again taking the back seat to Twilight and Starlight -___-

I did care for Starlight this time, she's no Sunset Shimmer yet, but I can tell she had a real struggle within her. I felt bad that Sunburst only has magical knowledge and can't actually do magic. It's great there is someone who knows more magic knowledge than Twilight, makes Sunburst unique.

I kinda wanted a two parter where Flurry Heart is kidnapped.. Chrysalis kidnaps her for revenge? Simple enough. No villain? Ok well make the episode focused and it would have been a decent opener. This opener even pales in comparison to the very first season's. People give Friendship is Magic 1 and 2 so much loathing and I don't even know why. they're the first episodes, of course they're going to be more simple than newer episodes.

I hope S6E3 turns out better.

I didn't like it all that much either, but for me it's wholly to blame on Flurry Heart. The entire problem was caused because she destroyed the Crystal Heart, which i feared from the start. Seriously, baby characters don't add anything to the show but problems. If the episode had focused more on Starlight and less on that useless baby I would've probably liked it more. I seriously hope the following episodes will be better, because this opening was by far the least interesting one.

It's a baby character, that's why they're there. I didn't have a problem with her. My issue was the problem and the plot at hand. Just felt underwhelming. I felt the dilemma between Starlight and Sunburst could have been its own episode, because I liked that part of the opener. Everything else was just boring, and again, the other Mane 5 are just playing minor roles as they have been recently.

Personally, this was one of my favorite openers. Only beaten out by season 2 and 5. I just loved a lot of things about it, I loved Starlight, and this was one of Spike's best episodes in a while, Sunburst was a great character and the interactions between the three of them were wonderful. The baby wasn't too interesting, but she was pretty adorable at least, exhausted Shining Armor was entertaining, Celestia and Luna got to be useful for once, Twilight was adorkable...

Really, to me this episode comes down to the characters, and I thought they all were written really well, so I had a good time with it. I don't need a bigger threat every opener.

Twilight is best pony.

Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?

I wasn't the biggest fan of the opener but I think for me it had more to do with just how they executed things. It just seemed like a rush to introduce multiple character elements and development all in the season opener.  I understand that they're establishing elements that will play a role later in the series but I think it would have been better to space all of it out more, have the opener focus on the baby and have a second episode focus on Glimmer and Sunburst. Or they could have had the first episode focus on those two and had the Mane 6 helping out as well. I think they should have given those two a separate episode and it would have worked better rather than intermingling their story with the baby's story.

Though, I may be thinking in a more literary way rather than television, it's been a while since I've read my television textbooks.

As for the new gremlin, I'm hoping they'll expand upon her more and make her seem like more than just a baby that was born with powers. I'm hoping for a magical age up in the same vein as Maya from The 4400, except maybe without the same results.

Quoting what I said on Page 12 of the Season 6 E01 + 02 Thread Discussion:

I'm just going to make my first impressions on the Season 6 opener simple:

I really liked it. It was very relatable. That's one of the key reasons why I really liked this show in the first place. And I'm glad to see that the writing staff of MLP:FiM did not lose their touch on that subject.  :)

With that being said, I barely had any problems with the Season 6 Premiere. As it was how I remembered with some key reasons why I originally liked the show (and still like it to this day).

The friendship lessons and slice of life moments are what keep bringing me back.

The other minor details of the show are only bonuses and I don't find them too important.

For such a dense story, I think it was edited very well, much better than "The Crystal Empire". If it made Starlight and Sunburst more favorable for you, then I think it did all right. The titular event was more a backdrop for these events than anything.

The only thing I'd hold against the episode was reducing the Mane 6 to an empty cameo just like "Empire". What I don't like about "The Crystal Empire" was how poorly edited it was, jump-cutting between Mane 6 comic relief and Twilight's storyline, as well as inserting unnecessary forced tension into Twilight's storyline with the "test". King Sombra wasn't a terrible villain, his traps easily made him one of the most competent. Here, it seemed that everything tied together in the end. Starlight and Sunburst's reconciliation culminated in them saving the day when the others couldn't. Overall, a more coherent story and I find that more important.

In my opinion, there wasn't enough Rainbow (or former Mane Six) in the season six premiere, but I still liked it more than the season four premiere.  I don't know what the hell was going on in the season four premiere: Princesses being kidnapped by plants, Twilight drinking hallucinogenic concoctions, no one being sure if they wanted Twi around or not, and Twi nearly being eaten by vegetation.

Well the B plot wth starlight was MUCH more inersting then the A plot(that being baby plot device)  It didn't ruine the episdoe and al. I still don't get why people hate starlight so much, yikes.

and the spike part wasn't filler, it just showed starlight trying to stall but Spike(for once) was companet and got them back on track.

so yeah miss the WHOLE point of the episode why don't ya

It was a great episode actually.

When i first watched it, i just thought it was good, but still nothing special (better than s1 and s3 premiere).

After rewatching it I liked it much better.

I rate it as the best opening so far together with s5 opening (s5 better plot idea and execution, s6 much better character interactions).

I expect the finale to be even better just like it always is.

I just figured that, if I didn't, someone would respond with, "Naw, it's the Mane SEVEN now!" or some such quibble.  Just trying to get ahead of it. xD

I agree 100%.

its not a terrible opener, but DAMNED is it middling. Its really a step down from what we've generally come to expect is the problem. Nothing really pissed me off, but at the end of the day, it didn't grab me or make me excited for the season.

The S4 premier? Got me excited. The season 5 Premier? Also got me excited. This? I have absolutely no enthusiasm at all after this.

Yeah... I think alot of people are getting a bit tired of that happening :P

Its at the level where people actually POINT OUT when the other 5 aren't snubbed in a two parter; it shouldn't be seen as something extraordinary when the other 5 are heavily featured, that should be a given :P
