How come Flurry Heart (and the Cake Twins) can fly yet Scootaloo can't?

I know I've already posted it on the previous threads from previous shows, but we've always been trying to wonder this. Flurry Heart and the Cake Twins are capable of flying and that they're foals as well, yet Scootaloo, who is a young filly, can't fly whatsoever. I'm not sure how this'll happen when she grows up into a young mare like Rainbow Dash and is still incapable of normal flight.

What are your thoughts about Scootaloo's current state of not being able to fly normally?

Maybe Scootaloo has something wrong with her wings... Or the cakes and stupid flurry just have exceptional talent... or its just temporary

I've always held she was either supposed to be a late bloomer, or handicapped. Why? So they can write episodes about a character overcoming such issues and deliver yet another lesson.

I think she was born is smaller than normal wings, thus not growing with her and can't 'carry' her weight..

That or her parents aren't pegisi and can't teach her?

*in my twisted imagination* Celestia is her mother and is too busy to teach her.. or Celestia is just a terrible mother

At this point, it may be fair to assume that Scootaloo indeed has a physical disability that prevents her from flying. But really, it doesn't matter all that much. Why should it really? Rainbow Dash herself said that Scootaloo's still special in her own way, irregardless if she can fly or not.

Stellar Eclipse from Trade Ya! is clearly handicapped, if not already made apparent by the fact that his creator had spinal muscular atrophy himself.

His disability clearly doesn't affect his well being, nor his ability to pursue his dreams and hobbies, including collecting Discord lamps. If Stellar can come to terms with his disability, why can't we and Scootaloo come to terms with hers?

A lot of it seems to be an unfair expectation on Scootaloo as a pegasus to be able to fly. Lacking the ability to do so otherwise means we have to feel bad for her or makes her less of a person, even if we don't admit it. Why? This wouldn't be a problem if she was anything else. Scootaloo should be viewed for who she is, not what she is. For who she is, she's done pretty darn well, I think.

I am pretty sure that Scootaloo was confirmed to be handicapped.

I thought that was the major point of Flight to the Finish being an episode about physical disabilities.

I think Scootaloo is just..... disabled? Or something. She just have some problems. I think. Or maybe her wings are not strong enough to lift her up. Because having a mentor/sister like Rainbow Dash, she should be introduced to vaeious flight technique and have plenty of training.

If she ever needs someone to talk it over with aside from Rainbow Dash, she should go and chat with Spike who just had it insinuated again that he's somehow less worthy because he can't fly.

Of course, for a show that can make a tortoise capable of flying with Rainbow Dash, you'd think somepony would come up with a device to allow Scootaloo and Spike to take flight, too!

I think it's always been unspoken among the show's writers that Scootaloo genuinely isn't supposed to fly.  There's indications that she is disabled in some manner (personally, I think it's that her wings are undersized for a pegasus and too small to function properly), and while they haven't directly addressed this aside from subtle indicators here and there (and of course that one episode in Season 4 where Scootaloo frantically tries to work in flying as part of a CMC routine), she's supposed to be someone who viewers with disabilities themselves can connect to.  She doesn't let her not being able to fly hold her back or stop her from looking up an amazing flier like Rainbow Dash.  I don't think she ever will fly, and at this point I hope she doesn't, even if they never flat out state that she can't fly.  She'll be more effective as a character for it if they never change the status quo.

She's also an orphan. Scoot is probably the darkest character in the show, but one of the best.

Actually, both Lauren Faust and Big Jim deconfirmed this. They're simply never around due to their jobs as an explanation

Clearly she has the wing power, which is why she can "fly" on her scooter at speeds greater than should be possible just by hoof power.

I mean, if she is disabled somehow, is that really such a bad thing? She thrives in many other ways.

Has she ever once wished that she could fly? Or is she totally content being on the ground. I mean, other than Rainbow Dash she really doesn't care to be in the sky with any other pegasi. Her friends can't fly, I think it would be a bigger issue if all of her friends were pegasi and she lived in Cloudsdale. But she lives in Ponyville.

Exactly ostriches have wings but they use them to run faster rather than fly.

Also not all birds fly like penguins, ostriches, chickens and dinosaurs.

I have to disagree with the explanation of Scootoo's wings being too small for her to fly. I mean Bulk Biceps can fly and he is huge. I think she is handicapped.

Agreed. If the orphan thing finally gets put to rest on the show, we should have a funeral thread for that headcanon.

Scootaloo is different...Like Fluttershy.

I know Fluttershy can fly...But flying isn't really her thing...Fluttershy prefers to be on the ground, it's like sometimes she forgets she's a pegasus. She may as well be an earth pony.

I think she simply has a disability but is still considered normal. The only ones who have ever brought attention to it were Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara and their just mean
