I bet none of you have a CP 450 Ponyta! Since I live in the desert, there are Ponytas everywhere! There are no water types though...

*Edit: Of course I am in Italy right now, so I can't catch Ponytas... But at least I can catch water types here!

If anybody here is playing Pokemon Go without having played one of the original Gameboy games, perhaps now's the time to try one.  ^_^   The app differs in many ways, but two most generally.

One: Go's only system of battling presently is at gyms and that's just button mashing and training isn't really anything.  Battling is constant between you and NPC trainers and wild pokemon in the original games and through it, your pokemon become stronger.  A general rule is, "A Pokemon raised by a trainer is stronger than one caught in the wild."  Which leads us to..

Two: The bond between you and your pokemon~  Go is a great app, a great addition to Pokemon, great in general, but there is no bonding with your pokemon.  There's no levels of friendliness, evolutions through love lavished, or just a feeling of having a team to explore a new world with, to become the very best with.  This could sound hella lame, but we are on a forum dedicated to MLP so hopefully it's passable, and you could understand. xD  Emotion in stories, in games, is what makes the very best games.  Try out a new Pokemon game like X/Y or Black/White (dis one is a lil cheesy imo. Diamond/Pearl is nice.) or one of the classics such as Red or Green.  They're fantastic games…Go is best for social and exercise reasons, really.

tl;dr  Try an original pokemon game!  There's story and adventure and you actually have a team of Pokemon to whom you become attached, who will help you along your virtual journey, rather than just being candy fodder.  Go rocks, play it, but also perhaps try the originals if you haven't.  :squee:

I am amazed. In the short week of its existence:

  • Elitism between the three teams has formed, and hostility is actually legitimate between some of the members.
  • People have been fired from their jobs.
  • Traffic accidents.
  • Injuries
  • A death or two
  • People have used the app to locate people to mug
  • Places had to put up anti-trespassing methods for Pokemon Go players
  • A woman stumbled across a dead body

It's been a week. The human race wasn't ready for this responsibility, clearly.

I'm disappointed with the game in some areas, namely the capture and combat system. The capture system is kinda decent, but the combat system is terrible. Then again, it's a smartphone game. It also feels more like a beta version at the moment which isn't really a bad thing since it means there is great potential for the near future. Aside from that, it seems to be working well on the social aspect, leaving rivalries aside.

I uninstalled it on the very day I got it because I was disappointed, but now I'm inclined to actually give it a shot since I just love Pokémon :3

I've been playing in small bits given work and not having a ton of time to hit up everything!  Its fun and I think as long as ppl stay aware a bit,  things should be ok.

I live in downtown of a state capitol, and I can tell you..its alive here. Hundreds of gyms, thousands of pokestops, and people with phones out stretched at arms length. They spot you, and are like "YOOOOOOOO!" and your like "YOOOOOOOO" Then I am like

"Want to see my Clefairy, Flurry Heart?"

"Or how about my Growlith Sunset"

I get a few blank stares, then the bronies chirp up and go "YOOOOOOOO MEET MY MEW TWO CELESTIA!"

This is about as close as we are gonna get to pokemon being real, I am so happy the Brony community is out catching em all.

(I am not kidding, I see hundreds, daily. Stopping, spinning on there heels, fist pumping and screaming something like "HELL YA HAUNTER!")

Since 89, MLP has been my first love (GLORY/RARITY/ARIA NOTICE ME!!), Come the 90s it was shared by Disneys Gargoyles (DEMONA NOTICE ME!) and Pokemon (CATERPIE NOTICE ME!).

And then Chrono trigger happened..and the series of tatts that cover my SOUL, exist! (AYLA NOTICE ME!)

Elitism between the three teams has formed, and hostility is actually legitimate between some of the members.

Team Valor is life son!

That being said, welcome to EVERY FANDOM WITH FACTIONS...EVER!

20 years of a fandom is..quick?

Most 30 somethings have waited there entire lives for this moment, to catch "real" pokemon in the alley behind our house, the park, the walmart, etc.

The game has been out for less than a week. That's what I was referring to. These "teams" have only existed for a week.

My point is that most fandoms don't form this kind of elitism this quickly when something is released.

See I have to take issue with your view.

You keep saying "these teams".

But reality is "teams" in Pokemon go back 20 years in the manga and the anime/games. From Rocket, to Neon, and so on.

More fans cheer for Team Rocket then Ash.

The chance to FINALLY join a team (something you could NEVER do in the Game boy games...look it up, its true.)

Is a wet dream for many. Frankly I admire this sudden burst of loyalty to a concept that is two decades old.

I understand you not wanting more spurglord jerks on your internet, or now even in front of your house. I get that, and RESPECT YOUR OPINION. Just please, realize, the hard facts here.

People have wanted to be part of a Pokemon "Team"...as Pinkie would say, FOOOOOOOOOOOOOREEEEEEEEEEVER!

Okay, but it doesn't change my thoughts that becoming this enraged about it, especially this early in the game is a bit silly. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it. You're free to have yours though.

I'm almost level 5, guys. What faction should I join? I'm thinking of joining Instinct just because they're the underdogs, but is there any significant difference if I join one team or the other?

HI.  Underdogs is a nice reason to join..  That and Instinct lacks an obvious, made-up set of values or strengths.  Instead, we're attributed lameass slogans…  Which are still better, if you don't use them, than pretending to be especially kickass at certain things that you are not especially kickass at.  Team spirit on Red and Blue is embarrassing, join Yellow, be cool, be chill, take gyms in the middle of the night and lose them by noon then do it again and collect rewards under the stars.  Join us.

real talk tho: if you are cool and not lame/mean-spirited in whatever team you choose, it doesn't matter.  pick a color, improve the team yourself whether it's winning or losing.  yellow just happens to currently already be the sweetest..  and come on, zapdos is the shit.

Just got this game today and so far I am liking it. The virtual reality is cool, and the fact that you can go to stores, gyms, and memorials as pokéstops to battle is just.. wow. I'm impressed.

I'm aware of the controversy over it. It's caused car accidents, and made 2 people fall off a cliff in San Diego. That being said, the pros shouldn't be ignored: making people go exercise for a bit, causing businesses to get more customers, etc. I think we should wait some more before we judge it further.

Well it seems that the game crashes every time I try to play it so I've come up with a solution

So after finally giving into the hype and downloading the mirror version required to play in Europe right now, I began my journey by attempting to capture a Rattata which then proceeded to end the universe on me and crash the game.

Makes me think it was a MissingNo. in disguise..
