I really do, it was a lot more homely and while I don't really mind the castle it being so big seems kind of superfluous, other than the map is there really much more Twilight and friends get out of having a huge castle in comparison?

Even though I don't care, I felt the library was less pretentious. It fit better in Ponyville than the castle.

Exactaly this. We kind of felt at home there as an audience and with the castle, eh, not as much. It seems to big for it's own good and is there really anything else to it apart from to map?

This too, It fit well with the town while the castle sticks out like a sore thumb. With the other princesses castles, they fit into the surrounding area

I miss the library. A "princess castle" gets far too much into girly/cartoony territory than I would like. The library fit right into Ponyville; the castle stands out. Thankfully I have fanfic to keep the library alive.

Though seriously, isn't the castle a bad move for somepony who wants to spread friendship? It just deters people in my opinion. Think about Starlight getting lost...

Actually I do kind of miss it. I keep going back and forth on whether it is because they successfully did what they intended to do, which is touch on a personal loss and make the stakes feel more urgent.

There are moments I miss its charm, and times I appreciate that the writers actually made me care for an animated building.

I swear that palcei s bigger onthe inside like the TARDIS. I can't even visualize layout of that place. I mean at least with the library I knew it had three floors at least. The castle..it hard to tell we seen

A lobby set peice(the yak episdoe and heart warming one)

Throne room

LIbrary

A dinning hall which is about a generic as any other room

and that about it...oh yeah and Spike's room

I do prefer the library, but I don't mind the castle at all. I guess the castle was a natural progression after a whole season with alicorn Twilight living in the library.

I don't mind Twilight's castle, but I do miss the library even now. So many memories and good times were connected to that place to the point it may as well of been a character in it's own right, made even worse that this was only a few weeks after Trade Ya, where Twilight kept all her books she had planned to trade because of all the memories attached them, books that were likely destroyed along with the library.

I don't like the castle at all. I far prefer the Golden Oak library. It's far more casual and personable. Just because Twilight is now a princess doesn't mean she has to be less accessible and up on a pedestal. She seems like more of an unassuming princess who doesn't need to demonstrate how high and mighty she is.

The whole story arc about fixing up Celestia and Luna's old castle seemed like it was a prelude to making it Twilight's place, but that whole aspect of the story just seemed to vaporize. Maybe Hasbro figured they could sell Twilight's crystal castle as a playset more easily than the more gloomy fixer-upper the writers conveniently abandoned.

Also, is it really necessary to have the castle be just another crystalline monstrosity? I mean, we already have the Crystal Empire, do we really need a miniature version of it in Ponyville?

I really miss the Golden Oaks Library because for one, Twilight worked as a librarian over there. She had a job. Now its kind of just like either sit at the throne reading a book, waiting for the map to respond or teaching Starlight about stuff.

To be honest, I would have totally fine with it it Twilight became a princess and everything was all good. She would have authority over some things but other than that, she is still a Ponyville's librarian, living in the Golden Oaks Library.

I do miss the Golden Oak Library. It was cozy and welcoming. Twilight and her friends had tons of memories there. Not that I don't like the castle I just prefer the library.

I'm sorry, but I just really enjoy the middle-finger shaped castle. It's great. It's almost as if Larson was involved.

I've just learned to accept it for what it is. Doesn't change my opinion, however, that the castle is a giant eyesore on Ponyville and looks seriously out of place.

Not something to dwell on though.

On one hand I like that Twilight has a castle to reflect her new princess status. Even though it'seems a garish, ugly, mess of a thing. Plus, the holographic map of plot device is rather cool.

On the other hand, I have read so much fanfiction and so many seasons with the library that, like many others here in this forum, the library felt like a home to me. Plus, it just feels wrong for Book horse to have a home without a library. I suppose we can make the assumption that she has a library in there somewhere, but we have yet to see it as far as I am aware.

Plus I also enjoyed Twilight as caretaker of a public source of knowledge. That just seemed like her right?

But as I said earlier, she is a princess so having a castle to rule from feels right. I just wish it wasn't this garish mess of crystal that we got.

  • 2 weeks later...

I miss the library as well, felt bad for Twilight when her books got destroyed. Some good episodes took place in the library too.

I'm fine with the castle, but it's really big for just Twilight, Spike, and Starlight. The castle is also out in the open, so it's an easy target for any threat.

Also Remember that Tirek automatically assumed that Twilight had a castle, and I'm sure other villains wouldn't expect a princess to live in a library. If the library was still alive, it could have been used as a safe hiding spot.

I miss Golden Oak Library a lot. It was really magical place! So warm and misterious at the same time. When I was li'l kid I thought that to have a house inside of tree is so cool!

I found new "Crystal Home On The Tree" discuraging.

Sometimes I miss it, but that is mostly because of nostalgia. I am perfectly fine with the castle. She is a princess after all, why not have her own castle? the fact that they used the loss of the library as the focal point of an episode later was really nice. Twilight and Spike lost something that was dear to them, but the memories are still there and new memories can be created. That is how I see it.
