Rainbow Shine is a BG pony that's appeared a lot of times especially in the older seasons. I highly doubt she's RD's mom, and if she is that'd be incredibly lazy

If we were ever to see Rainbow Dash's parents (both of them), like we did for Fluttershy this season, we'd probably have to wait until Season 7 for that (if there ever is one).

What @ said. Rainbowshine is seen in many episodes. If she's Rainbow's mom, she's the worst mother ever (besides Spoiled Rich) for never talking to her own daughter.

 

That flashback doesn't make a lot of sense anyway. She looks the same age back then as she does now, and it's probably been like, what? Fifteen years since the time of that flashback?

It is hard to tell aside from the obvious fact that Rainbow Blaze is probably her father. His cutie mark and rainbow mane pretty much makes sense. We won't know for certain until it shows her parents. Hopefully they will be shown.

The placement makes sense, but Rainbowshine is a common background pony, so I really don't think it's likely that she's Rainbow Dash's mother. I highly doubt the show would use such a common model for a pony that important. Technically Firefly being Rainbow's mom isn't any more plausible, as the only mention of a Firefly in the series is the ancient general, but Faust likes the idea and I think it'd be nice, even if I'd be just as fine with an entirely new character.

What this pone ^ posted here is the biggest piece of proof of where her parents are and who they are. I think it's obvious that Rainbow Dash was raised by a single parent. And you know what? It makes sense, too. Her father is likely how she adapted most of her tomboy-ish attitude. I like the idea of her having a single parent. It's a great dynamic, like how Applejack's parents are never seen and are assumed dead (I won't start another conversation in the middle of one, but even Faust wanted to have that element. But, you know how kid's shows are).

 

Rainbow Blaze is pretty much the only parent we can confirm, though.
