Do You Have An Accent?

I'm in that weird part of North Carolina where about half the people I know have those stereotypical country accents while the other half do not.

I don't really have the "country accent", but it comes out sometimes. My parents have subtle ones, and so do my sisters. Sometimes I speak with the twang (it was more prominent when I was younger) but for the most part, I don't.

That said, one of my dads friends sounds just like Boomhauer.

Some people had told me they thought I was a native speaker; some other, on the other hand, said I have a pretty strong Italian accent, which I definetely believe!

That being said, I'm perfectly aware of the fact I normally put an "A" at the end of many English words. Both that and the effort (and please, don't get me started about accents!) I put while pronouncing words make me sound like a typical Italian who attempts to speak English as best as he can! :mlp_yeehaa:

I'm not sure. Historically, most Americans I've spoken to have told me I sound British, and most Brits have told me I sound American. I never made an effort to copy any particular variant of English, but I'm sure my Swedish accent shines through on occasion.

Fascinating. I know an Italian who used to have a pretty thick accent, but he never sounded anything like the stereotype (disappointingly :P) - in fact, his accent was almost identical to that of an Iranian guy I also knew at the time. Is it a regional thing, do you think?

Nah. I don't really have some accent that's been inherited by any European ancestor in my family tree. :(

But, I am able to do a British accent (if my vocals are feeling good today, though). Some people think I pull off the British accent very well.

I don't have an accent, not even a Boston one.

However, I can do quite a good Scottish accent, mainly due to years of watching Groundskeeper Willie (the Simpsons) and Donald and Douglas (Thomas the Tank Engine).

I have an Australian accent. I've had people mistake it for a british accent though.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Well, I'm not so sure about that: you see, when you think of an Italian stereotype, I could bet my soul a Sicilian/Neapolitan guy would come to your mind, because that's the most quoted one.
Take Family Guy, for example: the Italians who are there are always pictured with oily hair, white tanks and black shoes. Moreover, pretty much all of them are part of the Mafia, and their accent is the stereotypical one I described in my comment above. That, that's the stereotype.
Now, I'm just like that, style and accent, and my friends and my classmates all speak English the same way I do. I remember when I went to Ireland with my class...the teacher at that International School couldn't stand our annoying accent; he kept repeating us to say "walked", and not "walkad-A". :-D
The thing is, though, we do not live in Sicily, but more up north, in Tuscany, right in the centre of the peninsula.

I guess not every Italian speaks English the same way I do, but I'm pretty sure this thing is not really based on the region you live in. :mlp_wat:
Good question, though...I had to think a bit before replying!

I have a Glaswegian accent, because I was born and raised in Glasgow, and around other Glaswegians!

Although I can do a quite good Indian accent (from watching scam-baiting videos, Apu Nahaspassapetalon from The Simpsons and Rajesh Koothrapali from The Big Bang Theory)

I used to have a southern accent, but it was so slight that it definitely could have changed by now. I haven't really spent time around someone else with a southern accent since high school. Accents can change in that time.
