This was on EqD but it deserves to be here too. Lauren decided to destroy loads of headcanons today with her risky responce to a tweet asking about Spitfire and Soarin's relationship status.

 

Hopefully the Soarindash-fuelled riots won't be too bad.

 

edit: I fully understand that Lauren Faust is not a source of canon these days. I just like her tweet.

This has the high likely hood of being either a big joke and her just trolling. She has a history of doing that. Besides, even if they happened to be friends with befits, wouldn't that mean the 'shipping potential' is still there mostly intact?

Yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of workarounds. And she was probably joking. But I still think it's noteworthy, not to mention great that she isn't afraid to make tweets like that about the family show.

Just because she's the creator of the show doesn't mean what she says goes. She doesnt even work on the show, she left after S1 after all. We don't really get to see any 'Bolts personality in S1, just Spitfire congratulating Dash a few times and mute cameos. Soarin gets his spotlight moment in the final episode, but its sweet and funny...... and so not the moment Soarin thinks "she's the one" by Dash saving his precious apple pie. *shifty eyes*  

 

And I thought that Megan Macarthy came up with the Wonderbolt's names and personalities. Soarin's named after her son right?

 

I'm a firm SoarDash shipper btw. so hate me. 

 

edit: I also like to think that Spitfire and Fleetfoot are the "friends with benefits" anyway. Bitch duo.

It was a joke. She does it all the time, so the concern is silly, and so are the instant defenses that she has no involvement in the show. Though seemingly she can influence things as evidenced by a Twitter exchange between her and Big Jim last year regarding Scootaloo.

Soarin is the name of AKR's son, so yes the character was named after him.

This is one of those discussions in which the sharp polarity between views makes no sense to me. It's as if one side is stuck in wish fulfillment mode and elevation of a figure of interest, while the other side ignores rational review and instead opts for a more cynical angle (whether it is due to distaste for vocal disapproval of S3+ or simple tribalism is hard to tell).

 

As far as relevant. I'm not so sure that absolute statement is accurate. Depends on what you mean by relevance. She is definitely still relevant in the fandom. Just her appearance is a major draw at conventions -- always far eclipsing any other staffer or actor. As far as influence, in the last few years she has been approached for ideas, or her concepts acknowledged as actual truisms at least on two occasions through direct staff interactions. While she obviously has no direct control over direction of the show, it seems premature to conflate that with Faust having no influence on story elements whatsoever.

Right, got it. As a Star Wars fan I became accustomed to taking what George Lucas said with a grain of salt since he often contradicted himself, and that was when he was basically god of that IP. Now that he isn't, you tend to get the exact same arguments over his impact on the franchise as you do with Faust. When he opens his mouth people do pay attention, but everyone knows that Disney/Lucasfilm does ignore his opinion now that he walked away.

That being said, SoarinFire (SpitSoar?) wouldn't get me that bent out of shape, but I still prefer SoarinDash.
