A lot of people have the same hair cuts? Why don't ponies have the same mane style?

I know it's a show and having same mane styles would seem lazy by the show creators, but its still an interesting thought.

Plenty of background Ponies have similar mane styles. Heck, Twilight's Canterlot friend group is basically made up of recolors with the same mane styles. Lyra and Minuette, Lemon Hearts and Twinkle Shine, and of course Twilight and Moondancer, though obviously that last one has a different mane now.

It's probably because most ponies have the same basic male or female face shapes. Without the different hair they'd all look a lot less unique.

The range of hairstyles in the show is much, much less than the range people actually have in real life - I'd say there's probably less than 30 or so different variations in the show, though that's just a shot in the dark guess.

Because 'Buy Our Toys'. The only mane-cuts that aren't that fancy are Aj's, Dash's, and clones of their styles(oh right, and like, alot of the stallion's mane styles), and it still has that appeal of a messy mane, sorta like anime protagonists. And others mentioning how there are not diverse manes, well, remember that McColts vs the (forget) episode? Their styles were alot more varied for instance. But they can't do that for ponyville or crystal ponies etc because its already canon to have duplicates, and because it takes a ton of time coming up with new styles. A good episode would be the one with the elvis impersonator to check background ponies on, see if it differs based on city specifically or not. Also the bronycon episode.

The show already reuses a lot of the same body types as it is already, and reusing mane styles would highten this problem.

Unlike us, most mares share the same body structure, so apart of color, and eyes, they mostly have different mane styles to make them stand out..... most of the time, as many background, and even FORMER background ponies are just palette swaps, downright to manestyle

WEll one obvious answer is limited resources and they only have so many models to mix and match  It kind of hte same reaosn why you saw so many clones in ealier season smaller budget ment less models available to animate.
