THE FEELS. Poor rarity. But actually strongly accurate to how retail industry markets super common gems as rare.

 

Will this be addressed in later episode. Or was it just something thrown in here.

And I think it was just a visual gag.. i don't see them doing anything with it.

Spies Rarity thread. Makes squee noise. Kid rolls eyes. I ignore as teen judgment is no match for Fabulosity.

After this scene, I had the same thought about the supply demand control from some entities like De Beers.

Like Grim, I think it was a fun gag featuring two similarly talented 'mineral focused' Ponies. The comics had an entire issue dedicated to this dynamic, so it was nice to see that sort of concept play out on screen. I did have a moment when I was trying to reconcile the scene with other scenes showing that Rarity is very adept at gem finding, causing me to wonder if her talent based magic is more successful on rare gems, which would make sense why she was having a hard time finding a chartreuse one in the scene (complicated by the lack of identifying what type of gem it was). Tangentially related, I like to think it was a peridot gem, mostly because it can easily take on a chartreuse color, and that peridot gemstones were considered connected to friendship and a gem that would assist with diminishing envy. 

It does confirm that Rarity focuses more on the aesthetic philosophy and nature of gems, and not the science of gemology itself. It is interesting to me since this was something that some of her fans had suggested was a possibility. It also probably makes more sense for her character anyway.

This was one of my favorite parts of the episode as it was a pretty funny visual gag.

But I don't see it ever getting addressed again.

It probably won't, though you never know these days. The show seems a lot more willing to do obscure callbacks, like they did in this very episode, in fact.

Rarity probably won't bother gem hunting here anymore knowing what she knows now. But Spike will no doubt still visit to partake in all the snacks lying about since he's not concerned about how common they are. I suppose if there are any valuable gems in that new secret lair of Maud's, Rarity might ask her if she can do some scouting about. Maybe even the two of them going on a little treasure hunt together? (With Spike, Pinky, and maybe Starlight in tow. XD )

Actually having all of them make a discovery together in the new cave might be an interesting episode in and of itself!
